Background: I do not usually purchase HE makeup or SC products, so this primer is one of the only $$ purchases for me. Most of the primers I have used in the past were heavy silicone products that work decently, but cause patchiness, stick to dry skin areas or uneven texture.
I love this primer! The texture is so silky and it glides on with little effort, sets without being rigid, and does provide some blurring effect for my super large pores. It does have a scent, the typical HE cosmetic scent that reminds me of a ladies powder room. It’s a nice scent, if you like that sort of thing, and adds to the overall experience, but as a person with sensitive skin, fragrances can be a nightmare. This product doesn’t seem to be causing any issues so far though.
The primer cost was $39 at Ulta. And you don’t get much product for the price, 15mls. The packaging is decent, though nothing fancy, but nice enough for the price.
Pros:
-Luxurious texture
-Effective blurring
-Indulgent experience
Cons:
-Cost prohibitive for the quantity

After using this primer for a few weeks, I am having a couple of issues with it. One, when I use a BB to apply foundation, this primer has a tendency to move and clump up into noticeable patches. I do try to moisturize my face before applying makeup, so that probably adds to this potential. But, I have also tried it on my bare face and it still does this, though not as much. I do rub in the foundation on certain areas of my face like around my hairline to blur the foundation line as much as possible, which probably adds to the potential as well. Two, with the warmer weather, it is not holding up well to sweat and humidity. So, this may be a better choice for winter.

I have tried so many primers. None of them did it for me. They usually made the situation worse. My skin is now dry but my pores are still huge. Every time I look in the mirror I see craters on my nose and my forehead in between my eyes. My skin was very oily when I was younger and it was a real problem. Older skin loses elasticity due to lack of collagen production. It seems like over night these guys doubled in size. I started on my primer search. I’ve tried every primer that was recommended to me at Ulta, plus drug store and online brands. Between a rock and a hard place, I was! I went into Ulta today and another primer was suggested. I reluctantly tried it and Wow. I could barely see the pores! This Tarte product is the big guns! It’s a heavy duty, thick product that gets the job done. It’s not for little piddley pores. There are plenty of products for that. I plopped down my $40.00 and out the door I went. For me, this primer is a godsend. Now I can become obsessed by other things, other than my pores!! Found the Mack Daddy!!

I bought this because of all the hype about it. I don’t have large pores but I’m old so of course have fine lines. The worst part about this product is how thick and immovable it is on the skin. It’s almost a paste. I apply it over a slight misting of water on my face which helps to make it more slippable. But a skin product shouldn’t need to be that texture in my opinion. It does blur pores and lines a bit but overall I’m not overly impressed. It helps to keep my makeup in place all day to some extent but I got the same semi ok result with Pixi primer which is a third the price. I’m not crazy about the jar container. Prefer a pump bottle or something more user friendly. Will not re-purchase.

7/30/18 update: After testing out new primers, I had to come back and give this primer an extra lippie. So far no other primer has been able to blur out some of my pores and keep me decently matte in the heat. However, this one has!
I started a quest after this past review to find the perfect primer. As I started to experiment with different products my makeup would look pretty bad by the end of the day. I had to have gone through at least 5 different ones! Finally, I had a primer face off with tarte on one half of my face and the competing primer on the other. You know what? Tarte won each time.
I still feel like there has to be something out there that can blur out at least 80% of my pores rather than about 40% so I’m still on the hunt. However, I have to say at this point – this is my favorite primer!
Previous Review: I bought this after hearing Tati (from YouTube) considered this a holy grail primer. Unfortunately, it was an “okay” primer for me.
Make up applies well on top of it, it doesn’t irritate my skin, and covers some of my pores. However, most of my pores (and some fine lines) still peek through upon initial application.
This has controlled my oil slightly better than some other primers, so I do think 3 lippies is a fair rating. It can make my foundation last through an 8 hour work day with minimal touch up. I’ve never had major problems with my holy grail foundation sliding around my face. But I really don’t love the texture of my skin with this and of course my pores become more apparent as the day goes on.
I think the people who may like this are those with minimal texture and have some oil they need to control.

I bought this based on Tati’s glowing reviews, but I have to say I’ve been pretty disappointed. I do find that it somewhat blurs out my pores, but it doesn’t seem to keep my foundation in place any better than when I don’t use it. It also doesn’t really seem to blur out my fine lines. I find that it actually works better when I put it on over my foundation, to blur our my pores. It does really seem to make the pores in my nose disappear completely, but not the pores in my cheeks. Overall given the price, I don’t think this is really worth it.

I heard so many good things about this product. This is a thick product! A little goes a long way. If you have dry skin, I think this product will do wonders. With my oily skin, it really feels heavy and looks like spackle on my face even though I used a tiny amount. I let this sit on my face for 30 minutes before I applied my makeup. It never seemed to really soak in. After 12 hours my makeup started to separate and look cakey.
For me it did not fill in fine lines or wrinkles. Made them worse. My pores looked huge!!! From far away, I looked good, but when you got up close, yikes!!
For the price.. returned.

I really like this product. Fills pores and wrinkles without looking weird or making me oily. Can’t complain. This is the only primer I actually consistently like.

This primer does what it says… It lasts a long time because you only need a small small amount of it to fill pores and fine lines. It can even fill deep smile lines to prevent foundation from creasing there. This has replaced all of my other pore filling primers. I some a different primer for all over the face and just target this one on pore areas. It has a clean scent that doesn’t linger after application. Great product.

I was very disappointed in this product. I wanted to love it since Tarte is one of my favorite brands and I heard great things about it.
However, it did nothing that it said it would. My pores were still greatly visible and my skin did not look smooth at all. The packaging was beautiful but the product texture was weirdly hard. I know it’s in a jar by it was a strange feeling to get this “hard” product out. Lastly, the smell was awful. I’m really sensitive to fragrances, and they tend to break me out. This product had a really strong fragrance that was not pleasant at all. It is too expensive of a product to not do what it’s supposed to do.
I love Tarte products (their eyeshadows, concealers, and pro glow palette are amazing), but this is definitely a return for me.

I’ve used this product for years. They changed the formula I believe last year. It used to be harder to spread for sure but now it is a lot easier and it’s the only primer that doesn’t break me out. No silicone either. Had to review so it never gets discontinued!
