This is expensive for the small amount of product you receive, and the packaging feels cheap. I’m afraid I’m going to break the compact every time I open it. I wouldn’t have purchased it for the retail price. It came in a Black Friday promo box that also contained a full-size mascara, brow pencil, and colour balm for $35, so I feel like I got my money’s worth.
You don’t need to use much of this product at all. If you were to swipe the puff and try to spread it on your skin like a cream primer, it would be used up in no time. When I press the sponge lightly on the product, and then press it into my skin, however, the results are excellent. It feels like nothing, but when I touch my skin, it’s smooth as satin. And my foundation goes on more smoothly, and my pores DISAPPEAR.
I was just using it as a primer at first. I was skeptical that it would work for touch-ups instead of powder, but I tried it today, and it worked brilliantly. I just pressed the sponge to my nose, and the late-day shininess disappeared and stayed gone for hours.
I don’t know if I’d buy it again. When it’s gone, I’ll look for a similar product that comes in a more durable package for a more reasonable price.

I don’t know what I expected from this. I was suggested this by an employee at ULTA who also incorrectly matched my Stila foundation. She suggested blotting this balm over areas to touch-up throughout the day. I tried. and tried. and tried. All it did was make me look greasier than before and cause acne in my t-zone???? I was left with this compact just sitting there in the bottom of my makeup bag in it’s greasy glory until I decided to throw it away.

1 lippie for packaging–I have a hard time opening it. And the supply is quite scant! I paid $15 for this, I’m sure glad I didn’t pay $24! It works. It works really well for me. I use it over my fdtn/powder & it helps w the shine. But it is way to fricken expensive when I hit pan on like the 3rd application. I bought this to use in my purse but it’s sitting propped open on my vanity. I can’t deal w opening it all the time. I’d only rebuy if they about quadrupled the amount of product u get. The Stila name is the only thing really carrying this product for the most part. I was so shocked when I hit pan. And I’m very conservative w my product I try never to waste any. GOT ME LIKE: wtf!!!!??? Why can’t wnw make this so I can keep buying this? $15 that = RIDIC!!! It works but incredibly astronomical.

WHAT THE ACTUAL HECKLESWORTH!!?????? Please know that I am exercising real restraint in my choice of words here. I am assuming that since you are on this site that you feel as passionate as I do about makeup, so when something fails this hard it just makes me rage. I normally research the products I purchase extensively before buying but didn’t with this product. The regrets are strong AND I bought this on sale.
My skin – Weirdly confused combo skin that is overly sensitive (I cannot stress enough how easy it is to freak my skin out – and when I say freak I mean allergic reaction material), sensitive combo that has random dry patches. My cheeks, mouth area, chin and parts of my forehead get so dry that they get eczema while my nose and eyebrow area are oily and refuse to hold onto cosmetics despite the climate. Inherently, my pores on my nose, around my nose and on the bridge of my brows are quite large and really don’t add anything nice to my overall appearance. Having the weird combo troubles it can be a real challenge finding a pore minimizing product that doesn’t dry me out nor make me look overly matte (if you like matte, trust me avoid this product like the plague). I have tried and loved Pores No More Primer from Dr. Brandt, but unfortunately that stuff costs a lot and I already spend way too much on makeup, so the quest has been on to find something comparable.
Background – I don’t normally give a background story to a review but being I want to give this negative 50 stars, I think it is deserved. As I was preparing to leave for a trip, I had been on the lookout for a new pore minimizing primer. I was headed to a hot place known for humid summer weather and I knew that I’d need a little help keeping things in place. I randomly happened upon this product at Nordstrom Rack and spotted it in the sale section. Being familiar with Stila’s liners and lip products which are wonderful, I had moderate expectations. I had used the brand before and never really had that bad of an experience. I will get into price/value momentarily but I do want to add that I felt it had been tampered with. I am not really sure but I swear there was a dent in it that looked like it had been used. I don’t know, should that have been enough not to put it on? Maybe. But it was on sale and I doubt I would have got my money back. That being said, whether it was used or not would have NO influence on the overall performance and I still expected a lot more than what I got.
Product – The product initially feels like it is silicone based, BUT, it melts down to this liquidy gel really fast in your hand so while it spreads across your face, it doesn’t really feel like it sets. It just feels like I put oil on and it’s sliding around. Its not a great feeling. Horrified that things wouldn’t dry down, I used the provided sponge which seemed to mattify the product but it also seemed to remove the product. Note about the sponge alone, I love me some sponge action. I am an avid believer in the beauty blender but this sponge seemed to pull the product away, not blend – not to mention the overall stickiness made me feel gross and doubt that the sponge would be a hygienic tool. I then tried to apply again just using the sponge, alas, now the product wouldn’t spread and instead it just sort of balled up. I just couldn’t figure out how to really apply the stuff. If using your hands made it greasy, shiny and nasty; and, the sponge just would barely apply it at all – just, how? From the first dab, this product barely held onto my skin and looked bad.
Next thing, as soon as I had done one application and mind you I am not some crazy person who has no idea what they are doing, I HIT PAN ON THE PRODUCT. ONE USE!!!! Are you kidding me? I don’t care if it was on sale, I did not pay money for a one use product that doesn’t even look good. Did it blur? Sort of, but minimally. I have large pores but for someone with more textured skin than me this product would be useless.
Wear – So far, that’s three negatives – poor application, nasty wear, and wasteful product conception so that its already gone with just one use. Now on to the next thing. I get the primer applied (finally) in what I’d like to think is an even application, proceed to foundation after the appropriate drying time is given and find that my normally predictable foundation looks patchy, cakey, and separating. Howwwwww???? The point of this putty mess is to create an even surface, instead it takes my foundation and makes me look a fool.
Longevity – more like, what longevity? It did nothing to keep things in place and that’s even after I tried to set my makeup with the stuff (something the directions recommend).
Price – What a joke. This product is normally $30 (from nordie’s), yes, $30 for .29 oz. This makes me want to rip my hair out. .29 oz is nothing, first of all. And $30??! I guess they realized how crap this stuff is because I bought it for $10 on sale and looking at Sephora, I can see it is also on sale for $15 (originally $24 according to them). As a makeup addict, I already spend a lot on product but I also have expectations as to how something is going to work. STILA – how could you make this and think it would work out for you??! Please know, you can seriously find dozens of better products out there for your money. While this was a random buy for me, I admit, don’t even attempt to use this stuff.
Lastly, everyone’s skin is different. Some skin reacts poorly to such and such and other people love it. BUT, with that said, I just know this product is so bad that it wouldn’t work for anyone. It made my more dry areas oily, clung in other areas, did nothing for my texture and certainly didn’t keep things on any longer. I tried several times to make my purchase work (well like three times because thats how quickly it ran out) not only to find that it wouldn’t work and make me break out. Cool. SMH.

Do not purchase this, go get the original from Mally Beauty. Seriously, this was the worst. I love the Mally product and thought this would be similar and convenient for me to purchase rather than ordering Mally, but it’s just not as good! First off, the product is similar, but just not quite as good. The worst part is the packaging of this product. Mine got too soft, so it melted a bit and rolled out the sides of the compact making it a complete mess. This is a product I would have liked to keep in my bag for touch ups as I do Mally’s, but Mally’s doesn’t seem to get soft on me like this did, which is good because not only does it not get messy in the compact, but it allows you to just pick up the perfect amount of product. I had this for about a week, then it was messy and I threw it out.

I love the brand, Stila, and I like the idea of a primer that helps with shine and keeps foundation on my face but this one doesn’t work for me. It comes with a applicator sponge and I constantly felt I was putting too much or too little on my skin. Too much and I ended up with white patchy marks on my face before I apply the foundation. It works but you have to be careful how its applied.
I think if this was more creamy than solid, this can work. I’ve used it for several months so I can’t take it back (almost done) but its not a repurchase. I do like the compact it came in so at least I can use that for something else.

I liked how my makeup stayed on, I didnt feel like I needed to wash my face off after 9hrs like every other primer I’ve been trying. But “Anti-Shine” more like shine central on my face -_-

Now when I first heard the review about this product I thought this prime was going to rub off cause my face to be very oily and greasy….. That didn’t happen at all it kept my face anti shine and my face wasn’t oily…. I only had to use my blotting paper once because my face is very oily so only using 2 blotting paper was great for me….
I only pat a little bit of the prime on top of my makeup only on my t zone…. I have ance prone skin and no breakout happen…. I love this prime and I will keep this close to my heart lol

I love stila…. Usually, this on the other hand BLEGH! The application is terrible; too hard to blend. I’ve tried with a sponge (the one included and a beauty blender) a stippling brush, my napoleon flat top and RT buffer. The product is mattifying as a base but is too thick to put on top of your foundation like a blotting product (as they claim it can be used). Also I’d only used it about 4 times (tried to give it a good run before being judgemental) and had almost hit pan. All in all $40something dollars for a mediocre primer that will only last 10 uses…. No thanks I’d rather stick to my smashbox that is pricey but I know will do the job properly.

Purchased this on impulse and was disappointed upon opening the package on the amount of product there is actually in the container. There is only .29 oz of product. The sponge sits in the bottom of the container so you flip the lid that contains the product.
The product itself is not too bad. I used it on top of my makeup, choosing to simply tap some product on my face t-zone and headed out for the day. Quite frankly I chose this application method when I saw how little product there was and knowing how expensive it was ($39 CAD). When I checked myself in the mirror mid-day, I was surprised to see my face did not require the usual blotting. It was not the typical oily mess it is by noon, even when using powder.
I tried the same process for a period of two weeks and there is a noticeable difference in how oily my skin looks…or doesn’t look. It works well over foundation and powder. It seems to make my face matte for the entire day. Again, I blot the sponge with the product and then blot my forehead, nose and chin only. So reading other MUA’ers reviews, I would conclude that it is likely the best application method. Use the product sparingly, simply blot your face with it. I don’t think it is meant to be spread across your face to be absorbed.
For the amount of product you get I am still on the fence on whether I would purchase again. It is not an HG for me yet, but will update once I get close to finishing the product.
