I love this color, and yes, I was just thinking about David Bowie as I write this. I thought that at one point, I had this color, but it was actually “Fashion” by DL that I had, and it was SO similar to “Naked”, so I swapped fashion away.
This is new to me, and it is gorgeous. I see it as a stone-mauve color, and it does qualify as a neutral. This reminds me greatly of a color that was the first of its genre (earth tone edgy color) called “Stone” by Sally Hansen “hard as nails”. It was so pretty and it was about 1998, and I knew this girl at work who wore it. I bought it, and then eventually gave it up. I can’t really find it now (it was the kind with Teflon!?).
Regardless, this is a gorgeous stony mauve color, with hints of gray. It looks awesome on any skin tone, to me. I’m warm with sometimes red-brown skin, and it still looks great.
I am not sure how others are getting streaks at all. The brush is skinny as always, so that could be a reason for streaking. As long as I put a decent amount on the brush itself, it spreads evenly. I always now realize that 2 coats is essential, but I don’t always use a base coat, or a top coat.
The dry time is pretty normal to me, and it does leave a beautiful, spot-on finish. I’m sure a 3rd coat would be great too. The cost is $18. AFAIK, the prices haven’t really changed much in these last few years, so I don’t think it’s too bad. I think for the brush, it would be ideal to have a thick pro brush.

Yet another modern nude by Lippmann.
Very pretty, of course. Lippmann has impeccable taste and a great eye. This is darker than some of her others over the years, and it’s a cream. (I still prefer “You Can Leave Your Hat On,” which had the most beautiful undershimmer of nearly invisible gold microglitter, so that nude just came to life on the nails. Discontinued, of course.)
All in all, rather unremarkable, as I have about 40 different modern nudes, all of which are simply, well, “modern nudes” to varying degrees.
Looks very pretty with a transforming color on top, as do most modern nudes.
Take it to the next level by adding a coat of “Diamonds and Pearls,” or “Knackered” or some other kind of edgy thing on top.
If you have a favorite “modern nude,” take a pass and save yourself 16 USD …..
and get something edgy and statement making like “Swagga Like Us.”

It’s well known that Deborah Lippmann glitter polishes set the standard for other brands. However, DL cream polishes are on par with the glitters and should get more praise. Modern Love is a perfect example of the high quality creams in the DL line. It’s opaque in one coat although I prefer two and it glides on the nail beautifully. ML is the only mauve shade I own but it’s close in color to OPI’s Over the Taupe. However, Modern Love is not as deep a shade and it has more pink-purple undertones. I can see this working on all skin tones, but think it would work best on fairer skin tones. That being said, I still love it on my medium brown skin with golden undertones. This is a great color to wear for any occasion from a night out to the office. It’s a great staple in my stash and I highly recommend.

Modern Love is a beautiful medium mauve nude, new for fall 2012. Although it’s mauve, there’s nothing pastel or girly here–the depth of the shade makes it very sophisticated and different from the standard nude shades. It’s very unique and perfect for fall. It applies easily, is opaque in two coats, and wears extremely well (only minimal tip wear) with a good base and topcoat. This is one of my new favorites, and I will repurchase!
