Although the bottle is beautiful to look at, the steps to transform this oil into milk are too tedious and it doesn’t always work (activate) in order to remove the most eye makeup. Cotton pads and Q-tips still showed mascara and liner residue after two dry & wet passes and my eyes hurt by then — can’t be that env friendly. It also feels incredibly oily, hard to get rid of, and the spout is less than ideal. With my normal – sometimes oily T – skin, this felt stripping and drying so it could be perfect for the oily girls who don’t tightline waterlines and do double coats of mascara.

Origins has two cleansing oils: an all yellow one and this one that’s yellow and pink. I’ve only tried the latter. The packaging is sturdy and neat, great for traveling. I shake it up to blend the yellow and purple rice oils, dispense a quarter size onto clean dry hands. Massage in circular motions on dry face. The oil turns milky when in contact with water/rinsing. I have oily acne prone skin and I’ve noticed many times throughout the years that this oil cleanser helps control acne when used morning and night with a 2nd step cleanser. I choose a 2nd step cleanser with ingredients which combat acne such as salicylic acid, sulfur, or Japanese/Korean herbs. I’ve had excellent results with various Neutrogena acne cleansers, Rodan and Fields sulfur wash, and Kose Medicated Junkisui Foaming Wash. I have normal acne (T zone), not the hormonal kind (jawline), and this oil cleanser helps my skin a lot. If you have hormonal acne (a result of hormones being out of sync), try eating foods that help balance hormones. I’m a firm believer in giving the body what it needs to flourish.

In a quest to replace my HG Clinique TTDO Cleansing Oil with something cheaper, I tried a few other cleansing oils and then stumbled upon reviews on this one. Even though it is definitely not cheaper, curiosity got the best of me and decided to give it a try.
I like it, and I think it is comparable to the other cleansing oils I like (Clinique and MAC Tranquil) performance-wise. It does have a stronger scent, that I am not particularly fond of, but doesn’t bother me either. I feel it takes off my makeup easily, and leaves my face smooth and doesn’t cause any problems such as acne or irritation. I do follow up with a regular cleanser, as I always do.
I can’t say I notice any improvements in my skin quality, but I don’t expect that in a cleanser.
The one thing I don’t like, at all, is the container – the fact that it doesn’t have a pump, to be more specific. I find I either pour out too much, or not enough, and it also spills around the bottle making a mess. I often have to rinse off the bottle. A pump would be a very welcome improvement.
Although i like the product I said i wouldn’t re-buy, and that’s because I don’t think it performs any better than the Clinique TTDO, but that one comes in a more convenient packaging.

I’ve tried lots of oil cleansers and cleansing balms (IT, Farmacy, Josie Maran, Bosica, olive oil, Sunday Riley, Ole henriksen, etc) and this is my favorite! Leaves me feeling super clean and gives a radiance to my complexion. Just don’t put it near your eyes ????

Modern Friction Cleansing Oil with Radiance-Boosting White & Purple Rice is a dual phase cleansing oil you apply to a dry face and then add water to to create a creamy cleansing milk. I have several cleansing oils and cleansing melts and have had luck with most of them and this one in particular I think is just great. It’s dual phase so the oily layers are separated until you shake the bottle. I like that the top has a small hole that encourages even more shaking to get the oil out. I have read several reviews that talk about the fantastic citrus melon scent of this product, but to me it smelled similar to a lot of the Origins products I’ve used with maybe a bit more citrus. I was expecting Jolly Ranchers candy lol and that’s not what this is; it’s a fresh, mild herbal and citrus scent that fades as you massage it in. But let’s talk about what matters – performance. This cleansing oil did a GREAT job removing my makeup including liquid eyeliner and mascara, and left my face feeling seriously soft afterwards. I even skipped the second step of cleansing and didn’t use a water-based cleanser following this oil; I just rinsed and gently swept my face clean using a microfiber cloth. My skin looked and felt so residue-free that I decided to go with just the oil cleanse. I could see on the cloth and in the mirror afterwards how this product had obliterated every trace of makeup. But the best part for me was the softness the oil created – my skin felt so soft and smooth afterwards, without a trace of greasiness or dryness. It also seemed to calm my redness, which I wasn’t expecting. The softness has lasted through most of the rest of the next day and I show zero signs of irritation. This product performed even better than my high expectations and I just love it – I think I would even put it above Tatcha’s Camellia Cleansing Oil which is pretty fantastic. I highly recommend and would gladly buy this again!
