A friend gave me this when she didn’t want it anymore so it wasn’t complete when I got it, but I still pretty much have a good idea about the palette. I thought about not reviewing it, but I like to review things and wanted to add my thoughts.
I will admit I have complained about UD in the past, BUT it’s warranted. They are expensive so their stuff better rock at all times and I have found many products I did not like. That said, I do like a lot of their stuff and find their eye shadows can be really good. Can be.
Overall, the colors in this palette are good. I didn’t get the extras but that always helps make the sale. Although I’m not a big fan of Perversion mascara (it’s ok, I prefer drugstore), I do like the shadow primer. Mine was also missing Blue Bus which looked awesome.
Some of the shadows/things I didn’t like:
Cobra isn’t quite black which is good in that most palettes have the same old black but it’s almost too dark to use for anything but liner, and it’s a weird yellowy undertone with glitter. I can’t see myself using that like, ever. If it was more like a duo chrome dark yellow-black it would have been cooler.
Gravity disappointed me. I was hoping for a really nice rich purple and it’s kinda dry. It’s one of those colors that if you swatch it super heavy or when the light catches it right it’s pretty but it doesn’t apply that way. It’s a bit dark and can look dull. I fell similarly with Bender. It’s just not that exciting and looks a bit dull. Doing a look with these first 3 I mentioned would look awful. They might be ok as crease colors but they won’t pop at all unless you really PACK them on.
A lot of the lighter shades just look so similar to each other. They don’t in the pan, or if you swatch them next to each other you can see the difference, but for one palette they are too similar. Between Zephyr, Skimp, Missionary and Midnight Cowgirl you just don’t need all of that. Sin is really similar as well. But that and Missionary are my favorite of the 5. Midnight Cowgirl is surprisingly nice for all that glitter. It would probably make a really good highlighter now that I’m thinking about it. (I tried it, it’s only just ok, much better as a shadow.)
There’s also no obvious transition shade. Yes, you can use some of them as a transition, but it’s more creative.
On to better things:
Gunmetal and Hijack are pretty, and not totally boring silver and teal (gunmetal has blue undertones and hijack isn’t too green) but they’re a little chunky. It’s kind of ok since they are buttery enough. Baked has a really nice color pay off as does Crystal.
The total winners are Bust, Lost and Midnight Rodeo. Missionary and Sin also have great formulas for light colors as do the other light ones (I just think there are a lot of them.) These have the kind of quality I’d expect from UD shadows. Unfortunately, they’re not my typical colors but they are great. I notice with my Naked 3, the best quality colors were the deeper browns as well (and usually satins have the best formula). However, this palette is overall better in texture than that one and comparing them now, it almost bothers me how dry my Naked is overall.
Even though some of the colors bother me, there are a lot of pretty looks you can create with this. I like that it’s not all neutral or all electric. You can easily mix some of the more taupey colors with a brighter one for a little pop of color or do a more neutral/colorful look. Overall the swatches have a soft cool toned/blue ethereal fairy kind of look with just enough warmth. I think the color scope is pretty flattering for eye looks so I do appreciate this palette and I like it more than some of the other Vices/Book of Shadows that were newer. However, I don’t think I would have purchased any of them at full price. Maybe if I had no other palettes or that many singles, then I might get one.
The box is kinda bulky but I think it’s sometimes nice to have extra padding and something pretty. Stupid gripe, the butterflies make sense for this palette, but would have flowed with the design better if they were the blue ones, not the orange. I know, kinda dumb. Otherwise I kinda like the box.

Eyeshadow collectors would really like this one. The packaging is quite unique and cool-looking. Great pigmentation, as you would expect from urban decay – and the colors…UGH. Lovely shimmers.
I have to say though, they do not stand alone for me. All shine and ZERO matte. I don’t know. I love glittery, shimmer, and satin finishes – but to me they look best in contrast with matte shades. Fine. I’d wear completely shimmery lids every now and then (it’s just makeup), but for a palette to stand on its own for me – it needs to have some matte pans in it.
If you’re someone looking to go buy their first high end palette – skip this one. Get a palette with some matte shades in it too. But you’re just looking to bump up your existing eyeshadow collection….this is LOVELY

This is a really nice eyeshadow palette and one of the very first that I’ve bought from UD. It came with a speaker, eyeliner and mascara! The eyeshadows are very buttery and pigmented. Certain colors gave a lot of fall out tho. This is now depotted and sitting in my z palette.

I sort of bought this product on a whim. I already own the Naked 2 and 3 palettes, so I didn’t ever consider purchasing other eyeshadows from Urban Decay besides the original Naked palette, but I thought this was a pretty good deal, considering that you get sixteen eyeshadows, a full sized liquid liner, a primer potion, mascara, and…speakers? (I honestly thought that the speakers were random.)
As always, the Urban Decay eyeshadows are of great quality. They’re super pigmented and velvety, and last for a very long time. The eyeshadows are practical, with the exception of Kiddie Pool and Hijack for my personal taste. Also, some of the shades in this Book of Shadows are from the original Naked palette, which I like, since I don’t own that palette. I love the fact that this Book of Shadows includes a full sized liquid liner, plus the travel sized mascara and primer potion. For $32, I feel that this was a good deal for a high end makeup product.
The only issue I have with this is the extremely bulky packaging. I feel that the shades included in this book would be great to travel with, but since it’s packaged in a bulky box, that’s definitely not happening. Other than that, great product!

One of the best purchases for 2013. I am so happy I didn’t pass on this. Full size liner in Perversion, mascara, ear buds, keychain speaker, and wire. this also has a cute butterfly popup next to the mirror and the little drawer with the shadows pulls out.
The shadows are gorgeous s usual. My favorite in here is Missionary and I hope they make it a single soon. A very pretty nude color with a light shimmer.

I love the colors and how easy they blend. I love the fact that you get a full size liquid liner. They colors all go together so you have SO MANY options on eye looks from natural to smokey and everything in between. I dont like the chunky box. its pretty but not that functional. I charged the speaker that came with hit and it still doesnt work.

Urban Decay palettes are amazing value for money, and this one is no exception. The shadows are all beautiful – although I don’t use them all, but let’s face it everyone has their favourites colours in a palette and neglects the others. Sin is a beautiful colour that reminds me a little of all that glitters by mac. It can be used for just all over the lid for an everyday look, or can be dressed up with a darker colour in the crease and outer corner and some eyeliner. Zephyr is a great colour for the inner corner, it brightens the eyes but it’s still suitable for the day, it’s a white-ish colour but the slight gold in it doesn’t make it look scary on the eyes. Skimp could also be used as an inner corner colour, it’s a peachy toned colour although I find the texture of this very chalky. Crystal is also a really nice inner corner colour for the summer, it’s nice for just a touch of blue for colour. Gravity is a purple that I absolutely adore! I love Midnight Rodeo and Bust too. All the colours are beautiful but those would be my honourable mentions.
Moving on to the packaging, which is this product’s downfall. ITS SO BULKY AND IMPRACTICAL. This was a Christmas gift, so when I first opened it and seen the pretty butterflies, the mirror and all the gimmicky thingsI thought WOW what a great gift, then as time went on I started to hate the impracticality of it. I also really don’t get the thing you plug your ipod in to, it’s not that great. I wasn’t a fan of the tutorials, I would much rather just stick to Tanya Burr and Pixiwoo, thanks. In other news I like the mascara it comes with, as well as the primer potion. The eyeliner is decent too.
As much as I love the colours in this palette, I wouldn’t repurchase because of the size, I’d rather try out another UD palette.
