While I will admit I love that this had a *somewhat* simple ingredient list, with several effective ingredients – this was still WAY overpriced. Here is the ingredient list: Water, Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polysorbate 20, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sodium PCA, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Lysine, Glycine, Proline, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Geranium Maculatum (Geranium) Oil, Limonene, Citronellol, Geraniol, Linalool.
These are really cheap ingredients. Effective maybe (to a very small degree), but I know for a fact they are cheap because I am into skincare studies.
Additionally tocopheryl acetate breaks me out really badly. The lavender and flower oils are way too fragrant/irritating. A lot of the ingredients are not suited for acne prone nor sensitive skin. And last but not least……..The kicker? This only contains 2 actual vitamins!
I sure as hell wasn’t going to apply this to my face. So I’ve been applying it to my neck. Save your money and go with SIMPLE yet EFFECTIVE formulas.

First of all, this is my first serum so I don’t have much to compare to other than samples along the way.
I was optimistic from the reviews and liked what the product says it does however it did not impress me enough to repurchase.
I followed the directions 2 pumps day/night and the product is running out so quickly whereas dior and lancome samples used half a as much to cover the same area and seemed to last quite awhile.
Did not notice any improvements, ie. glow, more consistent complexion, fading of any dark spots, etc.
Have noticed that I seem to be breaking out more but could be due to a new moisturizer (? not sure yet) however, my search will continue.

I have been a long-time Jan Marini fan, but Jan Marini changed her packaging. I hate it. I understand why she did it. The old droppers for C-Esta exposed the product to the air. But, with the new packaging and thick texture of C-Esta, the package sticks to the side of the pump and doesn’t dispense. The old packaging of C-Esta would last me 4 or 5 months, and the new lasts about 2 months. See what I mean? So, what’s a girl to do but look for a different Vitamin C product. Well, this one surely fits the bill. This product is simple to use and is a simple Vitamin Serum that goes on under my moisturizer. Vitamin C is great for pigmentation, skin firmness, fighting free radicals. It helps the sunscreen work better. I think this product is best used during the day. This soaks in fast — within a minute or so. It isn’t greasy. Give it a try if you want a good Vitamin C serum.

I seem to have a knack for finding a brand’s secret weapon–products which aren’t what the brand is famous for but nevertheless works wonders. Kate Somerville, of course, is renowned for the exfoliant, which easily costs $65. Pricing logic indicates that a serum would probably be in the vincinity of triple digits, but this one is actually the same price. I think that is because it is not meant for a specific medical condition like many of her more expensive stuff is.
I went to a Kate Somerville event in San Francisco and found most of her products to be very strong in smell, to be honest. But then I was given a free oxygen facial that instantly transformed and brightened my face, so I had to believe she knew what she was doing. Since I did not have the skin conditions that her products were designed for (i.e. acne or sensitivity), I did not feel like springing for her top-of-the-line stuff. So I came away with two $65 serums, this one for toning and the Quench for hydration.
Both have achieved stellar results. This serum is rich in vitaminc C and is exceptional at balancing complexion. My skin got so glowy that I decided to wear tinted moisturizer in place of foundation. And I know this product should take the credit because I lost the glow two weeks after I ran out. As a serum, it’s very lightweight and never gives whiteheads. I use it daily and have gone through two tubes in the span of a year and a half. The only downside is the strong smell, but I can live with it.
