This is great and a true gel cream for dry skin.
People are mad that this isn’t for oily skin but I don’t agree, it absorbs easily and isn’t greasy. If you have very oily skin try the soft lotion.
La mer told me this is not geared to oily skin and they did add two oils to this formula, I personally like this better than the old formula.
I think often times people don’t like something just because it’s different than the old even though they knew it was different when buying it.. they expected it to be mostly the same.
This is a thick gel that absorbs ultra quickly and leaves behind a plump but dry to the touch skin
Nothing adds moisture like this does at a deep level.
I can’t live without this and it changed my severe dry skin into normal supple skin and plumps up fine lines.
The price is steep but you barely need any and 15ml last 6 months. If you use too much you’ll not like it because this is rich as all their creams are you only want a pea size amount

I strongly recommend checking out the very first review of this reformulated cream by EvaVic – I agree 100% with her excellently written assessment in every respect.
Suffice to say that this is another reformulation disaster from La Mer! The original La Mer Gel Cream was perfect!. It makes zero sense to make a product that is geared toward oily skin and add lots of oils to its formulation. This new stuff breaks me out and it is simply awful to use, whereas the previous gel cream was a light and elegant formulation. Such a shame. Thankfully I got a generous sample of the Cool Gel Cream, needless to say I will not purchase a full size of this.

I received this as a GWP along with ‘The Concentrate’ and used both at the same time, as instructed by the very helpful SA at Sephora in Atlanta GA (Concentrate first, followed by a dab of the Gel-crème). For the first time in 7 years of writing reviews on MUA I actually have very little to say, only because another reviewer – or in this case two, have already covered every possible angle on this product. The Moisturizing Cool Gel Cream is simply a reincarnation of what was an ‘average-ok’ product to begin with (The Gel-Crème), although the Lime extract in the original formulation didn’t agree with me at all (caused bumps, flakiness and redness). However this new version does not agree with me…AND THEN SOME!! I thought it was just my skin being difficult, until I read the other reviews on here. Turns out I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like the updated version!
Definitely ask for a sample of this if you are unsure whether it will agree with you. La Mer has other, better formulations within its moisturizer portfolio imo.

Absolutely terrible…. This is the “new improved” revamp of something that was great and in my opinion did not need to be changed.
The original formula had an amazing consistency, soothing and delivered results, even for the high price tag. I know for some La Mer doesn’t work, but for me the results were amazing. The original gel cream soothed my red, dry flaky skin without causing breakouts, I could literally go makeup free and look 10 years younger than I was… not an easy thing when you’re a tired mom with small kids! So La Mer decides to discontinue a fantastic product that has worked wonders for me for years, to replace it with something with a ton more ingredients (fillers and junk… seriously compare ingredients lists of the two items) that did not sooth my skin AND gave me pimples and cystic acne on my forehead! (All from a sample jar!) Terrible shame that the original has been discontinued… ladies be cautious, if you want to try the new cooling gel cream I strongly suggest a sample jar first!

This is the replacement for The Moisturizing Gel Cream as of February 2018.
It is the second disaster the Estee Lauder Companies put out under the La Mer brand within 6 months.
The previous one is The Moisturizing Matte Lotion launched in the autumn 2017. Both products are replacements for previously liked versions of the same type of moisturizers however, in these two new versions the “Miracle Broth” is now being replaced by water – and loads of it! The “Miracle Broth” is at around 5% concentration now in both products. (Main component of the “Miracle Broth” is Algae (Seaweed) Extract.)
One has to ask oneself, what is the point of paying over $ 300 for a pot of moisturizer when you do not even get something supposedly grander than water?!
Should you make the mistake of assuming that there are greater array of beneficial ingredients than in the previous version, La Mer will disappoint here too.
I also wonder what possessed the people deciding to change the absolutely fabulous Gel formula and replacing it with a much heavier version that contains oils (Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate and Meadowfoam Seed Oil) that might be way too heavy for a skin type that would naturally be inclined to purchase a product such as gels?
It is sad that even products in this price range are clearly for making even more profit and not for giving the illusion of actually delivering something more decent to the customer anymore.
The product, while at application feels smooth and somewhat cushiony, absorbs slower than its predecessor yet does not provide the hydrating feeling that a gel would suppose to.
After it is absorbed into the skin there is a perceptible film that is somewhat oily to the touch (even after some hours) and eventually turns into an oily disaster. Sadly, this makes make-up application impossible.
The only possible way I can see that someone would use this product is either as a nighttime supplement in the winter for people with oilier or combo skin or perhaps by a drier skin type as an occasional summer indulgence provided that one is willing to throw $315 out of the window.
The name suggests that it is cooling, but there is nothing cooling about this gel cream either. (Its predecessor had more chance to be cooling than this one, I’m afraid.)
