I broke out horribly from this from which I am still recovering. I know this was the culprit because I only change 1 thing at a time in my skincare routine. I applied more of this to my mouth area as that area tends to be more dry for me and that is where I broke out the most. I am acne prone though and most things will break me out. But I thought this wouldn’t especially since it says it is non-comodogenic. I guess the glycolic acid in it was just too irritating for my skin and my skin would burn slightly after applying this especially my eye area and start watering. I guess this maybe ok for someone with non sensitive and non acne prone skin though.

Can’t believe I haven’t already written a review of this product considering that I’m been using it off and on (mostly on) for over 15 years now.
I am surprised to see so many reviewers experiencing extreme reactions and skin irritation. I seem to recall a slight burning sensation when I first started using this lotion many years ago but my skin got used to it and after the first week of use I had no other problems.
I love this lotion. I first started using it in my early 30’s when money was scarce. For many years my skincare consisted solely of using this lotion every morning and using the nighttime lotion in the evening and that was it, my whole skincare routine. Over the years I started getting more disposable income and thus jumped on the skincare bandwagon, trying numerous expensive potions, lotions, and serums. I usually keep this in the mix and on the rare occasion that I take it out of my rotation I end up missing it and bring it back. That’s what inspired my review today. I have been trying a lot of new products and there just wasn’t a place for this so I stopped using it about 2 1/2 months ago.. Over the past 4-6 weeks I haven’t been happy with my skin at all. It’s been dull and flat, rough and looking extra wrinkly. I wondered “can i really be aging that fast?” I pondered my recent skin care routine and decided that this had to be put back in. Bought a bottle a week ago and have used everyday since. This morning I noticed my old healthy smooth skin coming back and a definite softening and diminishing of the wrinkles.
I cannot explain this product. I have other expensive AHA gels and creams, I exfoliate, I mask, I moisturize, I wear sunscreen, I use vitamin c serums and retinols, so what exactly does this lotion have that my other products don’t? I can’t answer that. I think for one thing AHAs are most effective on me when they are in a lotion. I don’t see any benefits when I use them in a gel or a cream. I first experienced AHA’s in the old Alpha Hydroxy brand lotion and ever since then I haven’t been pleased by them in any other form.
I have dry skin and I find the Neutrogena Healthy Skin the perfect balance of moisture and sunscreen for my face in the winter time. Perhaps an oily skin person would find this lotion too greasy or tacky but for me it soaks in and drys down within about 5 minutes of putting it on. There is a slight oiliness to this product but my dry skin loves it. I also appreciate that the fragrance is very light and barely noticeable. I recently tried a very expensive gurlaine product that smelled like a ton of perfume had been dumped into it. I’m sick of higher end skin care manufacturers overdoing the fragrance, there is no reason for it. If I want to spell like perfume I’ll use perfume. I don’t need it in my skincare or cosmetics. Healthy Skin seems to have a very light fragrance. I would prefer no fragrance but it’s not unbearable. Unfortunately SPF 15 isn’t a lot of sun protection so I have started using a proper sunscreen in the summer on days when I know I will be spending hours outside. Otherwise I don’t only adore this product my skin depends on it. I will use it until the day I die or it gets discontinued. I love that it’s always easily accessible and affordable. Well done Neutrogena!

Made my face very oily-looking and it stays greasy and tacky on my skin. It smells unpleasant like sunscreen and stings a little. I had read similar complaints before I bought the lotion, and I should’ve believed them. I was looking for something cheaper than my HG Aveeno SPF 30 lotion. Aveeno SPF 15 and Cetaphil SPF 30 lotions are decent, cheaper backups but they also make my face shiny, though not as bad as this Neutrogena lotion.

OUCH!!!!
The only moisturizer I have EVER used that makes my face burn! Not after I put it on or after continual use but when I put it on, it immediately burns my skin and makes it red. I have tried it multiple times to see if maybe it was just a fluke but every time, it hurts so bad I have to wipe it off and put vitamin E oil on my skin immediately after. I do not have sensitive skin and I typically use higher end moisturizers but because of the neutrogena dark spot mosturizer I tried and loved, I bought this when I had run out of my expensive moisturizer and was at the grocery store already, I didn’t have time to run and get more of the stuff I typically use and neutrogena dark spot moisturizer wasn’t sold at the grocery store. I have used medical grade moisturizers, Retin-A for a few years and nothing has made my skin hurt except neutrogena “healthy face” moisturizer.

My purpose for writing this review is purely to warn people of a possible skin reaction. I don’t have the greatest skin, birth control did wonders with my acne, but I still get the occasional breakout on my forehead or chin. I’ve been a faithful Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer user because of it’s “non-comedogenic, non-greasy, fragrance free, dermatologist recommended” label. I felt like trying something new so I went to the Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer. Basically had the same label and it worked just as well. Used that for a few months then felt like trying something different again. That brings me to Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion. Again, it had relatively the same label so I wasn’t concerned about it breaking me out. About a week after using this my skin had a horrible reaction to it. I had small bumps COVERING my cheeks. My cheeks were SO rough to the touch. Genuinely felt like sandpaper. It’s been about two weeks since switching back to Cetaphil and my cheeks are almost back to normal.
I 100% understand that everyones skin is different and it’s not the products fault that my skin reacted the way it did. I’m only writing this review to let others know and to be cautious if you have sensitive skin and have regularly used Cetaphil or Olay Complete without issue, despite Neutrogena having a similar label, your skin may not react well. It’s just been a mess having my face feel and look the way it does so I only want to prevent others from experiencing this.

I have used this as a nighttime moisteruizer for maybe two months but found it started to burn after a while. I was moderate at first and then one day became unbearable and I had to mist with thermal water to feel comfortable. Although the results were good I have found a better chemical exfoliating product

I have tried this on and off over the years hopeful I would be able to see good results.
Not the case.
It always gives my skin a warm uncomfortable feeling. It feels heavy and greasy on my skin. Never really sinks in well. I break out almost instantly by the following day I have always have one or two new blemishes.
Makes my skin greasy and makeup does not wear well over the top of this.
My skin also starts to look tired and dull with continued use.
I will not repurchase again as this obviously does not agree with my skin.
Maybe it would be better for less sensitive skin, normal and dry skin.

I like my moisturizers to have SPF, and this seemed to be the best bet at the drugstore. I usually like a SPF of 30, but other SPF 30 moisturizers at the drugstore clogged my pores. This one sinks in really quickly, but I have the same problem with this as other moisturizers with SPF: it makes my skin sweat. I think it may be the SPF that clogs my pores and makes my skin “sweat” oils. It’s disgusting! I like that this doesn’t smell like sunscreen though. I’ll buy this again for a drugstore fix, but it’s not my go-to if I had the choice.

The new lotion has stabilized avobenzone in it for broad spectrum protection. I quite like this lotion, it smells like citrus and leaves skin looking dewy. I alternate this with Retin A Micro and find that it helps keep the flaky skin at bay. Now that the weather is cooling down in LA I think the SPF 15 is adequate under bb cream. The cream does burn upon application and causes minor redness but it leaves skin really smooth. It also has a dewy/shiny finish that can be made more matte with primer. This lotion isn’t for everyone but I really like the benefits.

I have been using this lotion every day for 10 years. I have dry skin and I am prone to break outs as it runs in my family. I was 15 when I started using this and within a few months my skin cleared, and it was hydrated all day. If you have a pimple or if your skin is very dry it will burn at first but I find the burn is a sign the impurities are being medicated and with 24ours you will notice and breakouts are smaller or gone completely. I have amazing skin now and I 100% believe it is due to this lotion.
