I recently purchased the new Neostrata Smoothing Cream- called Glycolic Renewal. This is an entirely new formulation from the old smoothing cream. I used the old stuff for many many years and I am a huge fan of Neostrata.
I am AMAZED at the new formulation. They made it even better! The base is very creamy, very soothing and cool on the skin, and it soaks in with no shine or oiliness (the old formulation had a bit of oiliness). My skin feels calm and smooth.
I LOVE this product. Even more than before. I try to catch it on sale as it is 39.00/bottle, but it is well worth it. I see dramatic differences in my fine lines, and acne. It is really the only thing that works against my adult acne.
It also comes in a new pump, whereas the old formula came in a glass container. I like the pump. It’s plastic and much lighter for travel, and it is more hygenic. Overall- a big hit for me!

EDIT: Goodbye, fair Neostrata. This formulation just doesn’t do what it used to. Maybe it’s the new fragrance, maybe the actual composition, but I noticed my pores getting bigger, my skin seemed dehydrated (fine lines where I don’t have them!), had a ton more shine, and generally just wasn’t wow-ing me like it used to. SOB. Upon the advice of the cosmetics lady, I’ve switched to the toner, and a basic moisturizer/sunscreen. We’ll see.
I have been a loyal Neostrata user for almost 20 years now (!!!). Life changing as a sad, acneic teen, a periodically zitty 20-something and now a hormonal & fine line-y 30-something. I see smoother, clearer skin, breakouts aren’t as traumatic, and I’m pretty sure in spite of multiple abuses, it is what has kept more wrinkles at bay. I try other products, but they always disappoint by comparison. I have grumbled through multiple formula changes, but always see results, so have remained loyal. This last reformulation however? STIIIIIIIINKS!!!! Ugh. Cloying sweet cheap Grandma perfume!! And no option for the day time formula with that nice little bump of sunscreen! Bummer. I know there is some controversy as to sunscreen’s effectiveness when added to glycolic acid formulations, but I DEFINITELY have grabbed the non-sunscreen tube by accident in the past, and DEFINITELY have found myself pink and tender at the end of the day. I will stay focused on results for now (and embark on the arduous task of finding a decent daily facial sunscreen. Ugh.), but will be writing angry letters if my HG is no more, or if I can’t handle this disgusting new “fragrance”. Why must companies consistently try and fix what ain’t broken???!?!?!

In my quest to find products that work, this was one of the best. I had been using quite a few actives so opted to go straight to the 10% rather than the 5%. Let me tell you, its only been a few days, but no flaking, very mild tingling when applied, no breakouts and already my skin is clearer, pores smaller and I think I’m even seeing lessening of my forehead wrinkles. Doesn’t ball up, no fragrances, just straight up goodness.
Drawback: a touch pricey $39, could be better, could be worse. Considering it works, I will pay gladly and try to get when SDM has points events going.
DO NOT FORGET YOUR SUNSCREEN!!! 🙂
