I’ve never tried the original version. The smell of the lavender is very off-putting and smells very fake, would not recommend.
Otherwise, the sleeping mask is hydrating and not greasy.

I own and have used the original Laneige Water Sleeping Mask, so when Laneige released their new Lavender Water Sleeping Mask I thought I would give it a try and see how it compared to the original. I must say that my biggest disappointment was that Laneige didn’t actually include lavender, instead they simply included fragrance. In general I prefer to avoid fragrance when possible. Since this is a sleeping mask meant to be used in the evening, over other treatment products, the fragrance isn’t as big of a concern as if it were to be used in the daytime/ sunlight (due to many fragrance ingredients being phototoxic).
Other than the scent difference the masks are quite similar. The Laneige Lavender Water Sleeping Mask has the same silky, water-gel texture that feels very hydrating. This also layers well over other skincare products and absorbs nicely overnight.
The Laneige Lavender Water Sleeping Mask does contain denatured alcohol, which I prefer to avoid when possible, but that is probably what helps give it the silky gel texture. My sole biggest disappointment was that lavender was not used instead of fragrance.
