I like this much more than the overhyped LÓreal Lash Paradise which irritates my eyes and smudges at the slightest impact with water, not to mention it’s about five times cheaper (at least in my country). This one does not flake ot smudge on me and makes my lashes HUGE.
I knocked down a lippie because the wand is not easy to work with and it can make your lashes spider-y if you’re not careful – it takes some time to get it right. It’s definitely not suitable for a quick swipe when you’re in a hurry. Other than that, I love it.

Heavy, heavy, heavy… it’s just heavy it won’t hold my curl at all. I have straight lashes that point downwards (typical Asian lashes ugh!) and this does not look pretty at all. One coat is enough but the distribution is uneven (the root of my lashes aren’t coated at all in only one go), tried smudging some off the tube but it was super messy, the end of the tube then had all these dried mascara… and made it difficult to take the big brush out without dragging the old dried mascara! I’ve used wetter mascara so I wouldn’t call this wet, but rather sticky and heavy, not a dry formula. Again I don’t have loads of lashes and this just deposit too much mascara onto my lashes, only making each lash look thicker… and that’s just not very pretty. It doesn’t make my lashes look more volumized, only “fatter”.
Tossed after 3 uses. Tried brushing the lashes after applying with a different brush on my second and third try, the formula then dried too quickly I still wasn’t able to reach my root. When I manage to get my roots it looks heavy and won’t hold a curl, simply too heavy for my lashes.
This might be good for those already have the volume, I imagine that would help the mascara to be applied more evenly, but not for people like me who have short and not as many lashes.

Finally found this in ULTA packaged with the purple regular formula and after looking in every Essence display in my area and not finding it, even in ULTA there was only one combo pack left of this product. I really like this mascara, it holds a curl, adds volume and you only need one coat of it, two if you want to go full on dramatic. I will say this is a “wetter” formula and I personally gently wipe the brush with a paper towel (not a tissue it will shred and stick to the brush), before applying. It is a long wear formulation and you will need an oil based eye makeup remover to get it off completely (see my review on Almay long wear eye mu remover pads). I didn’t have any issues with the brush, but you do need to be careful when applying it to lower lashes, as the brush is big and you can get smudges. Don’t have any issues with flaking or smudging after it is set and it definitely does wear all day long. I don’t experience any irritation with this product either.
It comes in a pale frosty pink tube, with a woven looking top and average price is $5.00 USD depending on where you purchase your makeup, also, if you can even find the product.

all things considered, this is a pretty good mascara. doesn’t flake on me, doesn’t run on my lower lashline, and it does do a lot of lengthening, volumizing, and curling (or at least curl-holding).
but the shape of the wand is just…bizarre. it’s like a normal mascara wand, but cut in half vertically for no reason? i don’t understand. i don’t want to have to flip my wand around over and over every time i put on mascara.
also i find this formula to be VERY clumpy. i have to put in a min of repeatedly combing this through my lashes to get it to look nice, and even then, some days it looks a bit spidery. i find if i overwork it the tips of my lashes lose their natural taper and it makes all my lashes look really strange and spidery because they’re all one uniform length and thickness throughout. but i guess that can happen with a lot of different mascaras.
one final note, this is one of those mascaras that’s really hard to remove. i don’t know if it’s meant to be a waterproof formula, but whatever it is about this mascara that makes it so hard to wash off, i hate lol. i always worry that these kinds of formulas are destroying my natural lashes – i prefer something much easier to remove, even if the formula is a bit more smudgey and smeary. for this reason alone, i wouldn’t repurchase.
it’s a good mascara, i don’t regret buying it by any means because you can definitely do much worse. but its not as low maintenance/low effort to apply as my current fav.

Essence is a cruelty free company. I purchased this from Shoppers Drug Mart for $5.49!
I absolutely love this mascara! I can’t say if it curls my lashes as I personally use a curler, but it does hold a curl nicely. It also is volumizing, like the name suggests. I really enjoy this mascara because it gives me a lot of lashes, but isn’t super clumpy. It can make some of my lashes stick together sometimes, but it isn’t anything major and it fans out a lot of my lashes that it’s really not a big deal when a few of them stick together. I personally don’t have an issue with this smudging or flaking on me!
The packaging on this is really pretty. It’s a soft pink colour that’s reflective and it has a black lid that almost looks braided. The wand has that little curve, kind of like how the Benefit Roller Lash wand is. I only notice it when I turn the wand a certain way though, it isn’t as prominent as on the benefit mascara. I think this is largely because this wand also has a lot of bristles, it is still really full where the benefit one wasn’t.
I will definitely be repurchasing this in the future, but I would also like to test out some of their other mascaras!
