Beauty-So-Clean Wipeout Brush Cleaner

   This brush cleaner is brought to you by the same company who makes the make-up sanitizer sprays and wipes, so you know your brushes are getting cleaned, sanitzed and conditioned at the same time and is gentle on your brushes! And it comes in two versions, the two spray bottle sizes for large brushes such as powder, contour, and blush and the larger refill bottle.

   The great thing about using this brush cleaner is that it cleans brushes within seconds no matter how much wet or dry pigment is in the bristles and is instant drying with no residue left on natural bristles. There is some residue left on synthetic brushes, but dissipates after a few minutes with no oily residue. The other great thing is that this brush cleaner also cleans adhesives like Pros-Aide and Spirit Gum from natural and synthetic bristled brushes with very little effort and with no adhesive or oily residue left behind. The only fragrance is the slight scent of sea salt which is not overwhelming.

   The best way to use the product is to decant about 50 ml or so into a container that has a raised screen at the bottom, so that the pigments may settle at the bottom of the screen. Beauty-So-Clean now sells a stainless steel brush cleaning canister. The two downsides are (1) The rubber O-ring on the underside of the lid shrinks slightly when new and or used cleaner is left in the container for a prolonged period of time like a few months, Which in turn will cause some minor leakage if the canister is shaken severely or is tilted or is resting on its side in your kit when transporting it. (2) The holes in the metal screen have sharp edges which will shred the tips of your brushes. To avoid this, place a plastic screen over the metal screen. Problem solved!

   After about a year of using this product, I can say that even though the brush cleaner may look dirty after a few washes of a few brushes, the brushes are cleaned and disinfected and it does pass the white paper towel test in that there is no pigment transfer onto the paper towel. Once the paper towel gets slightly off colour I usually add more cleaner. As a test I kept reusing and topping up the brush canister for about two months with around 200 brushes being cleaned over and over with surprisingly only a slight discolouration of the paper towel. As soon as there were some obvious pigment transfer onto the paper towel (even after topping it up) I just dumped the dirty cleaner into the sink, and washed and dried everything very thoroughly including the O-ring in soapy water and refilled the canister.

   The rule of thumb for knowing when your brushes are clean is that if your paper towel is still white after cleaning 50 brushes then your brushes are clean. The second you notice any pigment on your paper towel, your brush(es) are still dirty and still need to be cleaned until your paper towel is white. The perfect example of this is cleaning powder, contour and blush brushes with the spray bottle. Just spray the bristles until slightly saturated then wipe with a paper towel and you’ll notice immediately any powder or blush pigment left on the paper towel.

   I wouldn’t recommend immersing powder or blush brushes into the brush canister as the bristles will just soak up all of the brush cleaner, hence the use of the spray bottle is meant for big domed brushes, angled or otherwise.

   Overall Beauty-So-Clean’s Wipeout Brush Cleaner is a very effective and affordable brush cleaner that not only dries your brushes instantly, but is gentle on them as well without any of the overwhelming fragrances that other brush cleaners suffer from.
