I can’t believe they are allowed sell this. It’s mainly naphta (petroleum), which falls into Pregnancy Risk Group D: ‘there is positive evidence of human fetal risk’.
Yes, white spirit works for brush cleaning, but please don’t expose yourself every day to this, especially if you’re trying to become pregnant.

I was very sceptical for this product… but it works just fine. I like it because does not dry the bristles like the Laura Mercier s one. The strong smell does not bother me only the high price… But I will buy it again.

I’m glad I only bought the mini size to try it. After cleaning all my eye makeup brushes with it, I’ll be disposing of it. Yes, it works, but I can’t handle the revolting smell. I don’t understand how some people are smelling “yummy vanilla.” It smells like naphtha mixed with something sickeningly sweet. Hours after using it — in a room with three windows wide open — I can still smell it, and it’s nauseating. The smell lingers on the brushes, and I can feel a slippery residue. There’s no way I’m putting those brushes near my eyes. I won’t be using my brushes again until I give them a good wash with soap and water. I’m hoping that will kill the odour.

I find it cleans by brushes deeper than going by hand with soap and water!
For the longest time I was using the Sephora Daily Brush Cleaner and was only on a “Meh” level with its results. I mean it did it’s job, but I found that my brushes were always left with some film or residue.
I ordered the travel size off of the Sephora website (as I do not believe it is available in stores), for $10CDN. At least if I thought it was garbage it was only ten dollars wasted.
It arrived in a 60ml bottle with a mini tin used to hold product and for dipping brushes in.
I immediately grabbed my dirtiest brushes and went to work.
I poured a small amount into the tin and only put in the first 1/4 of the brush into the liquid, as per instructions. I was surprised to see the brush soak up the product like a sponge.
After picking up some product I swirled my brush onto an old towel and was shocked to see the amount of crum that came off. Foundation, concealer and eye products. It takes it all off!
Now for those with a sensitive nose, yes, there is a strong lingering scent of vanilla. This doesn’t bother me, I actually find it quite pleasant. But it does not go away. It stays on the brush until you use it enough that the product covers up the smell, or you go for a deep clean with soap.
As for drying time, I did find it dried quickly, however if you waited the basic 10 minute wait time, I found there was an oily waste still left, however if I left them to dry overnight, it was gone by morning.
In order to keep this product around a bit longer, I pour some into a mini spray bottle and use it to dampen my brushes that way. Works just fine.
I have quite sensitive, acne prone skin and this did not aggravate it or break me out.
I have since purchased the medium sized bottle for $27CDN from the Sephora website.

This works decently. Gets brushes clean, what more do you want? However, for me, this has a scent that I just can’t get used to. The scent to me smells like a shampoo mixed with a car cleaning product, just a very odd scent and very chemical-smelling. But for me, there are brush cleaners (even DIY ones) that work just as well, without the scent. The scent lingers on the brushes for me no matter how much rinsing-rinsing-rinsing I do.

Fantastic brush cleaner. I don’t clean my brushes as often as I should, but this is good to have in the arsenal when I do. When I clean brushes with soap and water, I tend to use some friction. By contrast, this just draws out the oils and dirt; doesn’t stress the brush bristles and it eliminated discoloration on some of my lighter colored bristles. For brushes blush sized and smaller, I put two capfuls into a plastic cup (I use the plastic top of an elf pump primer as a cup. I dip the brushes in, take them out and blot with a paper towel. For larger brushes like an elf kabuki, I don’t clean as per instructions. Instead I dampen a paper towel with a capful of cleaner, then press the kabuki into the paper towel. The towel immediately discolors into the shade of your make up. It’s actually a reminder to me to clean my kabuki more frequently – it may look clean because there is no visible product, but it isn’t. If you clean the kabuki this way, it drys even faster. For my big brushes, like Kabuki or foundation, I don’t leave them in the solution long, just dip the ends to prevent the brush from soaking up too much.
I don’t find that it leaves much residue. I am prone to hives and have milia, but occasional use of this on my brushes isn’t problematic. I Also love cinema secrets foundation palettes (for olive skin palette #3 works) and other products. While I am not crazy about the vanilla scent, I can deal with it once in a while. The big bottle lasts me a long time.
UPDATE: i thought to give my brushes a rest and use up some SIMPLE micellar water ( I am one of the few that dislike this brand of micellar intensely). The SIMPLE disintegrated the glue holding the ELF Kabuki together and caused it to smell like musty meadow. Tossing the brush and repurchasing it.

Ran out of my BM brush cleaner and wanted something cheap. Well, won’t be trying this again. Doesn’t get rid of the foundation stains on my RT miracle complexion sponge or expert face brush. Using just a mix of soap and olive oil does a better job. Also, smells like lavender, and that lingers on your brush after it’s dried, so if you’re not a fan of fragrances then I definitely don’t recommend.

They tried to make it similar to Mac but not even close! Not good with water, better alone. Way to soapy. But I already bought it so. I’m gonna keep it.

I use a gel eyeliner that is applied with a small brush, so I bought this cleaner to used for daily cleaning of that brush. I just lay the tip of the brush on a cotton pad, spritz it once and swirl the brush around on the cotton pad. It cleans well, and dries quickly. That being said, I wouldn’t use it to clean my larger brushes like my powder brushes, I think a brush shampoo would be better for that.

This product is OK for when you want to clean your brush quickly to apply a different eyeshadow shade. I saw that the techs have it sitting on all of their counters and I asked about it. Of course the rep said the product was great, LOL! I think it’s a little overpriced for the results though. I think you could use water and a little shampoo in a spray bottle and get the same results. Of course, nothing is better than shampooing and conditioning your brushes every week. I hardly ever use this because I keep forgetting I own it (this just shows how mediocre the product is). I won’t repurchase.

I don’t like this product at all. It doesn’t remove all the make up off and it leaves the brushes feeling hard and dirty. Last time I ever purchase this.

I bought this to try out but completely wish I hadn’t. I didn’t realize how much smaller it was than the Mac brush cleaner until I got home and looked at the Mac website. And it’s more expensive at $12. I don’t like the formula, it doesn’t completely clean very well and it ruined a couple of my brushes taking the fluff out of them and discoloring the black part of the bristles on my 187 dupe. I will not be buying this again. I’m just going to order the Mac brush cleaner from now on since everyone raves about that one so well.

i really like this product. it is easy to use just spray your brushes and then rub them on a clean towel. all the makeup comes off. i still deep clean my brushes once a week. but i use this usually after each use. i have not tried mac. so i think i will try mac next.

This product makes cleaning my brushes so quick and easy.
You pour the brush cleaner into a dish or the cinema secrets tin (I have the travel sized and regular sized tins, although they aren’t necessary. I can see any dish working just fine with the product). You dip the brush in, let the liquid soak in a little, then swipe the brush over a paper towel until it’s clean, then you let it dry. It dries pretty fast.
I’m pretty sure it’s alcohol based because the liquid smells very strongly of rubbing alcohol, hence the quick dry time. But once it dries, the alcohol smell is gone and your brushes smell so good, like vanilla. I recently used my freshly cleaned brushes on my sister. When I was powdering around her nose she said “wow, whatever you’re putting on me smells amazing!” So the scent is soft enough that she thought it was the makeup itself, but still very pleasant.
This works well on all different types of brushes and with all different kinds of products. It cleans off creams, powders, and even shimmery highlighter which can even be hard to remove with soap and water. I also really like that it sanitizes the bristles! This doesn’t replace a deep clean with soap and water but it really is great for keeping your brushes sanitary and for quick cleaning so that you can easily switch colours.
I wish it was a little cheaper but honestly I love it so much that the price won’t stop me from repurchasing.

Got a sample of this the other day, didn’t have very high hopes for it, but was pleasantly surprised by the results. I loathe washing my brushes, it’s such a hassle to me. My bronzer brush had a months worth of residue on it (I know, how am I not covered in acne?) and this product literally took it all right off. I know I still need to deep clean them, but doing this is better than just not cleaning them imo. The scent isn’t terrible to me, but I could live without it. I don’t have many makeup brushes that I use… Maybe about 6. I will probably stick to once a week cleansing, so this is a good value for me.

This brush cleaner is amazing. Easy to use and dries quickly. The only drawback is the smell but I can overlook that because it is very effective. I have to deep clean my brushes less frequently because I use this and it works soo well.
Update 06/2017: This product is mostly alcohol which is why the brushes dry soo fast. But it’s not great for brush hair in the long run. Good if you are in a jam but I would avoid on natural hair brushes or expensive ones.
