This purchase was an impulse buy because…well you know how the beauty community is online when the newest and next deal comes along. This set retails for $40, but Target presently is running a deal on brushes and was only $35 or approximately ~$2.34 a piece. Brush sets tend to have a dud or two, even the more expensive ones, so with the price point in mind I am very impressed with the quality of this set and the overall usefulness of the brushes included. They aren’t perfect and quality does shift brush to brush, but if you’re in need of quite a few brushes this is a good deal if you can find it.
To my knowledge, each Target store is receiving only 2 sets and their online store is completely sold out. I was able to find mine in stock with the Target.com in-store feature as of 7/21, these officially launched in store on 7/20.
All of the brushes feature purple natural and synthetic bristles and handles that have gold tone ferrules and caps on the bottom. The handles are substantial and strong feeling – reminds me of artist quality colored pencils in weight and strength. Overall they feel expensive and well made. The brushes don’t smell particularly good nor bad out of the box, but a scent is there which is prompting me to wash mine before fully using them. The purple and gold color scheme may not appeal to everyone.
powder brush – around and inch and half long very bouncy and not too densely packed bristles in an oval shape, feels good on the face and hasn’t shed on me yet
blush brush – slightly over an inch long, more dense bristles than the powder brush, feels good on the face but not as soft as the powder brush. I prefer my EcoTools blush brush to this
duo-fiber buffing brush – 3/4s of an inch long densely packed bristles, feels a little rough on the face and shed a tiny bit. I think this one will soften up a bit more after use
synthetic angled multipurpose brush – dense, very soft bristles that glide over the face nicely. Didn’t shed on me.
contour brush – dupe for the NARS Ita kabuki brush, dense short bristles that flare out a bit. Shed a tiny bit.
foundation brush – traditional flat foundation brush, dense but very flexible and doesn’t drag on the skin
concealer brush – pretty much a miniature of the foundation brush with a small notch out for covering spots, very soft and pliable and didn’t shed
blending brush – very soft, fluffy and springy bristles; a little big for my eye but blends like a dream
crease brush – short, dense and soft; one of my favorite brushes out of the set
small eye shadow brush – another brush like a small foundation brush, no shedding but doesn’t seem very functional for me
fluffy eyeshadow brush – similar to the blending brush, very soft and easy to use on the skin
precision smudge brush – dense pointed brush with lots of give, another favorite from the set
synthetic angled liner – very stiff but glides nicely across the skin
smudge brush – tiny and the one I have has been cut unevenly, pulls on eyelid skin
spoolie – nothing fancy, but nicely made and not too scratchy
The only real dud in here for me was the smudge brush and I’m pleased with the rest of them even if I don’t end up using them frequently. Minor flaws considered, I’m glad I picked this up and feel like I’m going to be set with makeup brushes for a long time now.
