I love supporting local Canadian brand. Bonus because this is clean makeup.
Really enjoy the texture.
Wears well into the day
I am medium beige and am still deciding between 2 shades via their samples but either works actually

I have been using Sappho foundation for years now and I have to say the New Paradigm essentials liquid foundation is just amazing ! My skin still feels soft and moisturized and it blends beautifully. I can hardly tell that I have foundation on at all. I also have acne prone skin and until I found this foundation all the others I was using left me with major black heads and break outs, but the Sappho foundation does not do that to me at all. You can fall asleep over night with this foundation on and it still doesn’t make your skin break out (not that you should sleep with makeup on). I’d suggest this foundation to everyone.

I had the pleasure of trying out a wide range of products from Sappho, and my views of organic makeup has definitely changed for the better! It was refreshing to see such vibrant colours from an organic beauty brand, and it feels good knowing I can have fun with my makeup while knowing the benefits it provides. I would recommend Sappho to anyone!

I felt like the texture was similar to an Armani or YSL….amazed to find a completely vegan formulation that simply felt like luxury! As a cancer survivor I am extremely picky about the ingredients I put on my skin and I couldn’t be happier to have chanced upon Sappho. Kudos 🙂

This review is for the new Sappho Paradigm makeup. I’ve not tried the original but this one is supposed to be formulated to have a little more coverage. I had never heard of it before and I thought I knew all of the popular brands. I have tried many – Lancôme, La Mer, Dior, Chanel, Sisley. I won’t say this is any sort of miracle foundation but it seriously is the only one I’ve tried that you truly cannot see on your skin with either a close up magnified mirror or outside in the natural daylight. It just makes your skin look very nice and natural. I bought the #2 shade which, according to their website, looked like the only one that had a pink undertone to it. When I got it – I thought it looked too ghastly light. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it blended right in. Other brands and formulations may have more coverage but the finish isn’t even close as this one is to looking truly natural. For reference, I’m blonde, blue eyed and 64 years old. I believe it’s true that heavier makeup can make you look older – even though my tendency was to cover, hide and conceal. Not any more though.

I have used Sappho for many years, both personally and professionally, there is no other foundation I trust more for perfect all day wear, great coverage and top performance. The Essential foundation is what dreams are made of and more. With a silky texture and easy blend-ability, it glides on like second skin leaving a radiant and youthful glow.
I highly recommend this newest formulation to anyone looking for that “no makeup, makeup” look. You won’t be disappointed.

Sappho changed my makeup routine completely. When I was younger, I was always a big fan of finding good drugstore makeup at a reduced price until I started having adult acne problems. Not thinking my makeup was the issue, I would simply pile it on to hide the imperfections.
Last summer, during a very stressful time (which means huge skin breakouts) I came across Sappho and my skin cleared within a few weeks. Since then, my skin has stayed clear and clean. I can’t live without the NP foundation, mascara and concealer.
I also love the powders for contouring. They blend perfectly with my skin tone.
Definitely worth the try!

I am so thrilled to have found this foundation! I am a professional makeup artist and I’ve been searching and product testing foundations for months, looking for a formulation with healthy clean ingredients without compromising QUALITY. This foundation is exactly what I’m looking for, it doesn’t look like foundation, but gorgeous, flawless radiant skin, and it lasts all day which is extremely important for my bridal clients.

Completely agree with the previous review – the formula has changed and so has the product entirely. Previously I loved Sappho’s original foundation. I would always get compliments on my skin when I had it on. Coverage was perfect and it actually benefited my skin. When I had to switch to the new Sappho Essentials version it was like buying a completely different product. Perhaps to go mainstream the creator had to add more preservatives to products, but unfortunately they have lost my loyal business as a result. The powder has changed considerably as well. Even if the previous product wasn’t fully green (I read somewhere that the reformulation was due to changing green science), I would still buy it as it is better than any major department store options. Would only re-buy from Sappho if they went back to the old products. (Liked the old packaging better too.)

I am *so* disappointed in the reformulation of this product and will be returning this *asap*. I have been very devoted to the original Sappho Organics Liquid foundation (the company has rebranded as “Sappho New Paradigm”). The original formulation was soothing, didn’t make me breakout, provided lightweight, luminous coverage without looking oily, looked like skin, looked fantastic in photos….I could go on and on about how great this foundation was. Although the company’s website claims they just added an emulsifier to the original formula this is simply *NOT TRUE*. There are *some* similar ingredients but the formulation is very different.
Original Formula:
Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe) Leaf Juice, Organic Alcohol Extracts of Aspalathus Linearis (Roobis) Leaf, Calendula Officinalis ( Organic Calendula) Flowers (and) Camellia Sinensis ( Organic Green Tea) Leaf, Simmondsia Chinensis (Organic Jojoba ) Seed oil, Titanium Dioxide, Emulsifying Wax NF, tocopherol ( Vitamin E) , Rosemary Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Azadirachta Indica ( Organic Neem) Seed Oil, Limnanthes Alba ( Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Daucus Carota ( Carrot ) Seed Oil, Stearic Acid, Amorphophallus Konjac ( Konjac) Gum, Zinc Oxide, Cl 77492 ( Iron Oxide), Mica, Essential Oils
New Formula:
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice,* Ethyl Alcohol (Organic), *Aspalathus linearis (Organic Rooibos) Extract, *Calendula officinalis (Organic Calendula) Extract, *Camellia sinensis (Organic Green Tea) Extract, Caprylic Capric Triglycerides, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil, Saccharomyces/Agave Tequiliana Leaf Ferment, Filtrate Azadirachta Indica (Neem) Oil, Xantham Gum, Sclerotium Gum, Daucus Carota Sativa (Carrot) Seed Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Cedrus Deodora (Himalayan Cedarwood) Oil, Boswellia Carteri (Frankincense) Oil, Cistus Ladaniferus Oil, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Oil, Tocopherol Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Jojoba Esters, Matricaria chamomilla (Chamomile) oil. May Contain:Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, CI77491, CI77499, CI77493
I won’t go through all of them – there are a lot of ingredients added that are known comedogenics or irritants but I will point out that the 2nd ingredient is *drinking alcohol* which is very drying, very irritating and actually damages your skin!! Here’s a little research on how bad this stuff is for your skin –> . (Btw, I’m not affiliated with paula’s choice in any way)
Performance-wise this foundation is not like the previous one at all. It is not luminous despite the claims on their website. It sticks to dry patches, emphasizes pores, is difficult to blend (I use a beauty blender) and is far more matte than before. The only plus is that the colour seems to be a bit more concentrated so you need less to get the same amount of coverage than before. It also seems to be slightly longer wearing but I couldn’t keep this on my skin for more than a couple of hours before the dryness and irritation (see above re: alcohol content) became intolerable.
I would say this foundation is slightly more comfortable than, say, L’Oreal Pro Matte and is likely about as good for your skin but ProMatte is less than half the price and performs far better. There are still a lot of organic ingredients and essential oils in the Sappho foundation but if you think it is going to be any healthier for your skin you are just buying into a lot of green beauty marketing. I used to pay a pretty penny for the original liquid foundation but the company seems to have drastically changed directions with this product while claiming they have not. I liked supporting a small, Canadian company that seemed to practice what it preached. Unfortunately, they will be losing me as a loyal customer. I see no value in marketing a foundation to the green beauty community that contains skin damaging ingredients.
Pros:
-More coverage and you need to use less product than before
-Slightly longer wearing
Cons:
-Irritating, drying, pore clogging, skin damaging formulation
-Clings to dry patches and emphasizes pores (even with beauty blender use)
-Even more expensive (this was already a very expensive foundation)
-Deceptive claims made on website
-Doesn’t smell as nice as before
