This was my go-to when I was in high school and I loved it. It lasted longer than other drugstore foundations and had a shade that matched me pretty well. I think if I were to use it again with more knowledge about makeup, it would be a good alternative when I’m not wanting to purchase a high-end foundation, but I have stayed away from it because I have found much better products over the years.

This is my favourite foundation. I have oily skin.. not just t zone oily, I mean everywhere! I cleanse with salicylic acid twice a day so yes I’m oily. This is the only makeup that lasts more than a few hours and still looks nice on me. I put powder on over it ( as I do with all foundations) but it still lasts longer than all other foundations I’ve tried and I’ve tried so many over the last 10 years.(nars, chanel, bare minerals,mac etc)

This is my new favourite foundation…I just love it so much. The reason is because it lasts ALL DAY. I put my makeup on at around 8am and it’s still there at 11pm. That’s 15 hours and my makeup did not budge. I even went to the dentist one day to get a root canal and when I came out my makeup was still there believe it or not….so it’s really really transfer resistant. I also do not need to use powder with this foundation….I just blot if my face gets a little shiny. Now my skin is usually really oily on my t zone…this foundation has just saved me from endlessly having to apply powder during the day and ending up with a cakey mess.
Other pros:
-Blends easily and buildable with brush or sponge
-Full coverage…no need for concealer
-Doesn’t settle in fine lines
-Tightens pores
-Not too matte, flat or cakey looking
-Affordable
The cons with this foundation is the color range and the strong smell. The colors tend to be more on the cool and neutral side. I would love this foundation more if they had more warm shades and ditched the fragrance. My closest match is Sand Beige (Normal/Dry Skin) – I have light to medium skin with a warm/neutral skin tone. Lastly this foundation can also be quite drying and I have oily skin so anyone who has dry skin I suggest moisturising really really well and use an oil cleanser to remove this foundation. I have found that soapy cleansers just don’t seem to remove this foundation well.
Despite these flaws I will be buying again 🙂

I just noticed that it’s reformulated so here we go…
I have the shade 150 Buff (normal to dry skin) as I have a combination skin.
I get oily in my T-zone.
Pros:
– Doesn’t show any dry patches
– Isn’t dewy
– Is long lasting
– Set itself but not drying
– Various shades
– Price is totally fine
– Buildable (don’t need concealer to cover up breakouts)
– Enough time to blend
– Easy to blend with sponge
Cons:
– Undertones might be too strong sometimes
– Might need to use 2 foundations for the best match

I know it has been reformulated so I got a primer to use under it (wet n wild dewy). I apply small amounts with ELF airbrush blender brush and set with powder. Basic steps.
It is beautiful. The colour matches me wonderfully and it is very reliable. Good buy.
(Please take the time to read bitchfork’s review of this – this is the review that convinced me to purchase this as I have been in exactly the type of situations she was describing and know the necessity of good and not too expensive makeup to carry you through . This user has excellent reviews in general though she seems to have stopped adding more. I do wonder what her take on the reformulated Coloratay is? )

I have pretty good skin so usually can make most foundations work. I bought CS in 150 Buff only because I recently discovered I have olive undertones (game changing revelation! :D), and pale olive foundation shades are hard to come by. Plus, I’m a foundation junkie.
So, the shade matched me decently (it’s not yellow enough for me, I can make it work though), but the formula, oh my! It sits on my skin in such an ugly way, settled into fine lines I didn’t even know I had. It looked like I’ve put on some cheap face paint.
As for long lasting claims… well, it doesn’t last as long as ELDW (but nothing lasts as long as ELDW, right?). The wear time is decent, though I didn’t really care to notice- I was distracted by how unnatural and mask-like my skin looks once I put this foundation on.
I’ve tried it with different primers/ moisturizers/ powders. Each time it emphasized every tiny imperfection, looked cakey- plain ugly.
Also, I have a sneaking suspicion it makes me break out. I’ve noticed the increase of closed comedones, and it’s the only base product I incorporated into my routine recently.
I won’t repurchase and will use it only for swatching purposes.

While I still use this foundation regularly, I miss the old formula from back in the 1990s and very early 2000s. The coverage WAS better and longer lasting and looked more natural despite being medium to full coverage. I still use this foundation because I find it to be one of the few that don’t break me out, lasts longer than others, and doesn’t transfer.
Colorstay WAS my HG, but I’ve been on the hunt for well over a decade since they changed the formula.(Both high end and drugstore.) Maybe one day Revlon will bring back the original formula, along with a bunch of other great past items like the New Complexion Foundation and loose powder from back in the early 90s!!
