I purchased this when it was on a sale on Tarte’s website. I love the color, however, it caked and clumped terribly in my lips. I had to keep using a tissue throughout the day to remove the clumps. I don’t have a problem with dry lips or anything in that regard—honestly I think it’s the formula that doesn’t work for me. I won’t repurchase unless it’s a matte lip paint or gloss, rather than a cream.

Swamp Family is a classic blue-based red liquid lipstick, which sets to a matte finish. A lovely classic shade that looks good all year round, that I think will look good on any skintone. I’ve removed a star because there is nothing new colour-wise; most brands who make liquid lipsticks have blue-based red in their line-up, so here you are paying for Tarte’s excellent (and cruelty-free) formula, that is great for layering – no gunking or cracking. The shade looks really different depending on how many layers you wear, so it’s like four lippies in one tube.
This is a liquid lipstick, so you get the strong colour, matte finish and good staying power of a traditional lipstick [around 4 hours], minus the drying feeling you can get from a lipstick. As a liquid you get a soft & moisturized feeling and pleasant scent/taste of a gloss, minus the sticky and slippy feeling I’ve experienced with many glosses. Like I said above, this is nothing new colour-wise, but I recommend it for setting truly matte quickly, whilst still feeling comfortable and not flaking or cracking.

Swamp family is a warm red colour. It’s a super easy red to apply!
It goes on super easy and there is hardly any transfer. It is extremely matte and does dry out your lips a little if you have it on for a long time. It lasts a freaking loooong time if you do not eat. If you are drinking there is very very little transfer. If you eat something greasy you are probably going to have to reapply. It feels very light and almost powdery (as opposed to buttery or liquidy) on the lips.
That being said when it does fade it fades down very elegantly. It fades down all over instead of being left with that bright outer rim that some lips sticks give you.
I really like this. I can wear it maybe 2-3 days in a row before my lips feel like they need a recovery period. I would repurchase for sure!
