This was described as a blue based red. It was not. It was more of an orange red, so not cute on me. To give this lipstick it’s due, it looked great on my Korean best friend, so maybe if you’re yellow/warm/golden based, give this lippie a try. Alabama is more of blue based red and looked nice on me.

NYX matte lipsticks have to be my favorite matte formula, although don’t be fooled the finnish is not completely matte. If you are used to the mac retro matte formula this should be a pleasant suprise. I am not someone who hates that thick matte formula, I can put up with it as long as the color is fantastic but why suffer when there is an eve better option right.
Despite this product being only $6 I can easily pull a 6 hr work day without this budging or re application. The formula leans more to satin finnish but feels very comfrtable on the lips along with being long wearing. The color is vibrant, so any woman who also has a deeper skin tone don’t worry the pigmentation this little one packs a punch.
I give it up for NYX for creating another great matte formula!

A few months ago, I was on the hunt for a bright orange-based red akin to MAC’s Lady Danger, only not expensive (since I only wanted to experiment with the color – I’ve been quite wary of venturing outside of my true red or deep blood red shades) and I wanted it to be cruelty free. So I picked up NYX’s Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick, thinking that it would give me the effect I was looking for. Unfortunately, as my lips have nearly no pigment of their own, Indie Flick ended up looking like a horrible chalky orange. Not red. Not bright coral. Just orange. I was somewhat crestfallen.
Yesterday, I popped into Target and found the NYX Matte in Pure Red. The name is misleading, making me think it would be a true red, so I never gave it a second glance when I saw it in the past. But yesterday, I decided to take a look and swatch it. Holy Moses! The perfect orange-red shade! I immediately purchased it and applied it in the car.
This is a VERY bright orange-red. It’s orange enough to wear during the Spring months, but red enough to still give that old-school movie starlet look when paired with a simple winged liner and peachy cheeks. Absolutely stunning!
It’s not chalky like Indie Flick. I find it wears similarly to Alabama or Aria (also from the Matte line) in that it doesn’t clump up around the inner rim of my lips, and doesn’t feel like plaster after a couple hours. Wear time, as with most of the Matte line, is exquisite. I have been wearing this since before breakfast – it’s now 3:45pm, and I’ve touched up once, and that was just because I enjoy putting on lipstick, not because it was necessarily needed.
Packaging is standard to the Matte range, which is a negative. It’s not sturdy, and unless it is twisted all the way down until it clicks, it will swivel up and mash against the inside of the cap. Brand X. And the packaging has far too much printed on it, which makes it look cheap.
Packaging aside, this is a gorgeous orange-red that I’ll be sure to make a staple in my makeup kit! I don’t know if it’s an exact dupe of Lady Danger, but it’s exactly what I needed to make my way into the vivid reds of the warmer months!
