After a long, hard search for a new foundation I settled on Clinique Even Better. It matches my very fair skin (CN10 Alabaster). I saw the new lipsticks at eh counter and decided to try the naked one, not the exact one (I thought it was too warm for my cool skin) but Romanced, recommended for the skin tones near mine as the “naked” color. It’s a nice light rose, not too pink or too warm, and close to my lips. Since them I bought the casual and glam colors for my skin tone (Delicate and Entwined, respectively). I haven’t tried Entwined yet but Delicate is an exact match for my lips, a true MLBB shade. I got a 15% discount when I bought the lipsticks, so I find the pricing to be mid-range. I took 1 lippie off because I would prefer a moister lipstick, although this does not dry my lips. Sometimes I put a drop of Bobbie Brown gloss in Fig over Delicate (an almost perfect shade match) for a glossier finish. I could see buying more in this line, especially some of the darker rose shades.

Clinique has recently introduced a range of neutral lipstick shades based on your foundation match in their Even Better range. You select your foundation shade on a colour wheel which then gives you three lip matches from light to deep in the categories nude, casual and glam.
The first two shade matches on the wheel were way too light for me (I use Even Better Foundation in WN48) so I bought the “glam” shade, Flushed. It looks a lot like Bobbi Brown’s Slopes which is a couple of shades deeper than my lip tone but is now sadly discontinued. Flushed is actually a little deeper and more maroon in colour than Slopes, so I’ll probably use it more like a stain over lip balm.
The good news is that it was 20% off at my local store, but the bad news is the store no longer has any Clinique staff on the counter, otherwise I might have asked for some help in choosing a different shade. I noticed that the nude and casual shades were quite light and mainly beige/peach, which would have looked awful on my pigmented lips, and the glam shades across most of the wheel were quite deep and heavily brown-based.
There’s probably some good shades in this range if you look outside the gimmick of the colour wheel matches. I got mine quite cheaply and while it’s not perfect I’ve spent a lot more on a lot worse in the past so I’m not too unhappy, but I wouldn’t buy from this range again.
**Update** wore this on a winter’s night out and it looked amazing. I haven’t worn deep lip shades for a while but this really suited my skintone and black hair, and made my teeth look extra white. Maybe that colour wheel was right after all! I found it wore off to a pretty berry stain after an evening’s eating and drinking. Much happier with this purchase now!
