After my huge disappointment with the new Pop Lip Color Lipstick I went to the Clinique counter and I swapped it with one of the Chubby Sticks, which I love and rely on. I had already seen this new shade in online swatches but it turned out to be quite different on my lips.
This is one of the best and most versatile Chubby Sticks IMO, I would say it is a crowd pleaser and an all-rounder because it delivers in almost all disciplines. The colour is hard to describe and doesn’t photograph well. The tube looks like a muted rose. When applied it can look pink with a slightly plummy tinge or more mauve with a hint of peach, depending on the tone of your lips and your complexion, so don’t rely on the swatches you see online if you want to buy it without trying it on.
Once it warms up and melts with my lip colour it looks similar to Chanel Coco Rouge in 05 Mademoiselle. I think it would suit a large range of complexions, from very fair to medium-dark.
It is absolutely not sheer, in fact it is quite pigmented for being one of the regular range and for this reason I can use it without a lip liner. I have irregular lip outlines so I have to fill in always with a lip liner before using a lipstick or gloss. But not with this; the colour is opaque and natural enough to contour my lips and it also doesn’t smear or feather. It is moisturizing and long lasting the way a creamy lipstick is, it means 3 to 4 hours depending on what you drink/eat, and only sometimes requires a bit of gloss or balm on the top when my lips are a bit chapped.
This is the perfect lipstick to carry in my bag as I can touch up quickly without prepping with balm and lip liner before. This and Woppin’ Watermelon, which is very sheer and more blue toned and which I use more as a gloss/balm, are my all time favourites. Together they are the perfect team.
