I bought this in the Sugar and Spice set. I hesitated because although I knew I loved Queen Bee, and I wanted to try Ice Queen, I “knew” a black lipstick would be useless. But being familiar with how moisturising LQ lipsticks are, especially the sheer ones, I reasoned I’d keep it as an at-home lip balm. So I bought the set. Imagine my surprise when Black Lace Rabbit turned out to be my favourite!
As other reviews have explained, this lipstick makes previously unfortunate waste of money lipsticks that you just couldn’t wear, suddenly wearable! Bright reds become wearable flattering berry tones, nudes become wearable deep nudes, flat dark ageing colours become glossy complex modern vampy tones. I am addicted to using this as a topper in the winter months. And as predicted, it is very moisturising and a pleasure to wear. I have already ordered a backup.
Just as an aside, Queen Bee is my favourite lip treatment and is super pretty; ice queen actually works as a face highlighter! So, if you see the set I would highly recommend it – and of course it’s better value than buying them individually.

I absolutely love this as a topper to any lipstick I own. I will continue to repurchase. It turns ordinary colors into multidimensional colors! Love it!

I almost hate to write this review. I was so excited about getting this lipstick. It is unique; that much is true. It’s a sheer grey that looks black in the tube with small gold sparkles. I’ve heard people complain about too much sparkle, and I’m all like, “Wha?”, cause I’d welcome some more. I do like the touch of sparkle. The unfortunate part about this lipstick is my sad, unpigmented lips. Now lack of pigmentation in lips is both a blessing and a curse. It does mean that lipsticks are generally true to their color once on the lips. Unfortunately, for lipsticks like Black Lace Rabbit, the lipstick is true to its color on my lips. My lips look grey. It’s okay, but just okay. I wore this alone today, grey lips? Bring em on! Then in the afternoon though, my lips had started to dry out a bit, and I reapplied, and the lipstick stuck to the dry flakies making my lips grey and uneven in tone. It wasn’t a terribly flattering look. I’m so in love with the idea of this lipstick that I am not giving up! I’ll try layering (though I’m terribly lazy about my lack of layering). I just wish I didn’t have to work so hard to keep loving Black Lace Rabbit. Kinda wishing I got Ice Queen instead, but then I wonder if I’ll just feel the same way about it!

I have been purchasing, repurchasing, and continually using Lipstick Queen lipsticks for about 7 years now. I have yet to buy one that isn’t the best of its kind on the market (for me). The color selection is amazing. When I look at lipstick from every other brand, the colors are either the same or so similar, they are boring: nudes, pinks, corals, and mauves. Lipstick Queen has these shades, but even the “ordinary” shades have something special in formulation, color, undertones, and lasting power that makes them stand out. Black Lace Rabbit lipstick is similar in formulation and performance to the iconic Medieval, except, of course, it’s black. There’s something exciting about wearing black lipstick…every time I apply it during the day, I get a little thrill. Black lips mean Autumn is around the corner, and Halloween. I LOVE Halloween! Rabbit, however, is not a one-dimentional, flat black color, like costume lipsticks. It has gold undertones that, in certain lighting, reflect bronze highlights on my lips. Mixed with my natural lip pigmentation, and depending upon how heavily its applied, Lace Rabbit can be the deepest violet, or a sheer eggplant. It really makes green eyes pop! It is creamy, moisturizing, long-wearing and perfect for layering with other colors, or wearing on its own. The lipstick case is beautiful, too.

I was hesitant to buy a black lipstick but I’m SOOOO glad I did. I was having a hard time finding the Lipstick Queen Lip Kits that Black Lace Rabbit comes in so I ordered it by itself from Ulta. On the lips, it transforms into a perfect smokey nude, but layered over other lipsticks is where the real magic happens. Suddenly not-so-great colors are flattering and I have endless combinations still to try. This isn’t a long lasting lipstick but more of a smokey gloss. The gold flecks make my lips look fuller and sexier and they really pick up the gold flecks in my eyes. Black Lace Rabbit is an HG product I will never be without.
P.S. It doubles as a sexy eye gloss too!
