After trying countless lip balm, glosses and treatments, I think I’ve found my new HG, so much so I’ve bought about 25 tubes to take with me when I move in case there are no stockists!
I work directly under an exceptionally drying industrial heater which dries my lips out like nobody’s business, but this product keeps my lips hydrated and soft for a full shift. The balm/gloss/treatment actually sinks into my lips rather than just leaving a greasy film on top like I’ve found with nivea, burts bees, and some paw paws do, and my lips no longer chap or flake.
I’ve taken one mark off as I’ve found after leaving it all day in my back pocket the tube heats up a little bit and sometimes is a bit tricky to wind up or down. Otherwise price point is right (AU$7.20 on sale at Priceline!) the smell is lovely if you don’t mind lime/citrus, and the product works an absolute treat. I like this lip balm. It’s moisturizing and has good ingredients. I’m not too fond of the scent (I don’t like how coco butter smells) but I can deal with it. The grainy texture that other reviewers noted- I love it! The slight graininess exfoliates my lips just a bit and makes my lips so smooth and soft. Very good prep for applying lipstick or gloss. I’ve seen other lip balms marketed as “exfoliating” like one from lush. But I much prefer this one because unlike the loose sugar crystals in the lush balm, the “grains” (or whatever they are) in the antipodes one stay fixed in the balm and don’t come off on my lips, so I don’t have to pick pieces off my lips every time I use it. I’ve tried many lip balms – rosebud salve, loccitane Shea, caudalie, Chapstick, Carmex, dr lipp. I’d say antipodes and dr lipp are my favorites.

I had high hopes for this lip balm. At the very least, I didn’t expect it to be bad, or maybe I just got a bad batch. Anyway, the texture of the lip balm was very grainy. I had to pick what felt like crystallised bits of oil off my lips after applying it. The scent too was very offputting – a combination of lime and olive oil which sounds OK, but in this instance just didn’t work. I also found that I had to apply it far too frequently – multiple times within the hour. On the plus side, it didn’t feel like an artificial layer of wax over my lips and the ingredients are nice and natural.
