I asked the sales girl for the lighter shade, Incandescent Strobe Light. When I got home, I thought the product in the compact was darker than what I picked at the store – but I used it anyway, and checked the name on the back of the compact later – she gave me the wrong color, she gave me the Iridescent. Ok, no big deal. So much similarity between these powders, I figured it would do the same job.
If you are looking for a bright, in your face kind of highlight, this isn’t it, though you can get more oomph out of it if applied with a damp brush or sponge. I like to use sheer highlighters as a very light dusting all over once I’m done the rest of my makeup, just for a touch of glow. This one works as well as all of the other Hourglass powders that have a touch of shimmer, just a little more so due to the addition of teeny tiny flecks of glitter. Not noticeable in indoor lighting conditions, but very, very sparkly in the sunlight. I’m probably too old to have obvious glitter on my face, but what the hell. I’m too lazy to take it back, I will just use it sparingly. Not likely to buy it again, as I probably won’t even use this one up in my lifetime.

I wanted to up my highlighting game thinking I could do better than my BB shimmerbrick in pink quartz. This looks absolutely beautiful in terms of colour balance but it did not show up much at all (my complexion is fair/neutral). Perhaps I have to try the incandescent shade but for now I’ll stick with the shimmerbrick until I can decide on the Becca or Laura Mercier product.

This product is fantastic as a highlighter, it provides a subtle sheen without over doing it. I find it is perfect for every day use because it is so subtle yet so effective. If I was working on a more formal night time look I would probably use a more pigmented highlighter like ABH but that is just personal preference. It is so finely milled it really sits on the face delightfully.

I love Hourglass products. I think the Ambient Light powders are the most unique makeup items I own and I absolutely cannot live without Dim Light. These are good, but not over the top for me. The texture is a bit chunky and gritty for me, not as smooth as say, a Becca highlighter. The shades are pretty though, this one being a pinky highlighter. If I was to choose between this and something similar though, I’d go for Bobbi Brown’s Pink Glow Highlighting Powder all day long.

This highlighter is gorgeous. It is the perfect subtle highlight that gives off a natural glow. This does not look chalky or glittery and does not enhance any texture on my skin. Some of my other highlights, like the Becca highlighters, although they are so pigmented and bold, they can over emphasis my texture or create a glittery effect. This one is perfect, i’d love to try the other shades. The packaging is also very beautiful with the mirrored-like compact. It is a tad pricey but totally worth it. The price reflects the quality!

An outstanding highlighter. I have recently got enthusiastic about highlighting and this product supersedes my previous favourites (e.g. Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder Candlelight). Sometimes highlighters are too subtle to notice on skin or the highlighting effect comes from glitter. This product truly highlights skin, but does it naturally.
I have very fair skin (NC15 and 0 in Sisley), and Iridescent Light complements my skin tone nicely. The highlighter is a pink powder, but the pinkness doesn’t show on skin. The powder is finely milled and it has very tiny pearl particles. On skin, the particles don’t stand out like glitter and they don’t emphasize pores. I use the product on cheekbones with MAC’s 188 brush and the powder really does make my cheekbones stand out. I use the powder dry, but it can be used with a wet brush for more intense effect.
The packaging is pretty standard. The compact has a mirror, but no brush. In my opinion, the brush would be pointless, because they are never good nor big enough. I would like that the compact had something to keep the mirror of not getting dirty of the excess powder, but it isn’t a big issue.
The product is very pricey, but the quality justifies the price. I would buy the product in a heartbeat if I lost it.
