This seems to be a very nurturing styling custard. I’m growing an extreme pixie cut out and have been using the Curl Smoothie (along with the Curl Milk) to cultivate my new waves (I’m 2C) as they grow in and I’m impressed at how soft my curls are, yet also defined. My curls are thick, loose and whirly but very strong, and also difficult to weigh down. My hair feels so touchable! Not that you want to keep touching curls because frizz can happen, but I’m finding touch-induced frizz is reduced with this product.
These two products give needed definition and some shine without feeling like oily wax. I can see both of these products being too ‘weighty’ for hair that’s prone to limpness or stringiness.
I bought both the Milk and the Smoothie six weeks ago because I had no idea which one I would like better, and it turns out they both have a place in my styling routine. They both have near-identical ingredients but weight-wise, the Milk is a little lighter than the Smoothie. Keep in mind my hair is only 3″ long at the moment: Most days I apply a half-teaspoon amount of the Milk to damp hair and spread it through with my fingers. I air dry as much as possible, then later gently boost the drying time with a diffuser. To define I use the same amount of the Smoothie as a finishing dressing. My hair is still a little damp after I’m finished styling and applying product. Once my hair thoroughly air-dries naturally, I finger my curls to lift them to their full potential, and they look so pretty and natural with this duo!
My hair doesn’t frizz out with light rain, either. I’ve had to walk the dog in a drizzle and all I need to do is run my fingers lightly through my curls to blend in any water, and everything resets perfectly.
It’s morning as I’m writing this and I’m touching my unwashed hair, and it feels so soft and clean – no stiffness or greasiness from curl product.
Fragrance: It’s a mild natural coconut smell. I am NOT a fan of perfumey hair products and am very thankful the smell of this dies down rather quickly to something I can deal with.

This product is obviously in direct competition of Shea Moistures Coconut and Hibiscus Curling Smoothie. I prefer Maui’s for my hair!
I LOVE that they infuse 100% aloe vera juice as the main ingredient versus water. My kinky curly hair loves aloe vera juice. By the way, the smell is divine! I even think it’s better than’s SM CH Smoothie.
Also, my main issue with SM’s smoothie is that it is too thick for my hair. It just sits on top of my strands and takes foreverrrrrr to soak in. This smoothie is thick but distributes way better and my hair soaks it up quickly, makes my kinky curls pop and stay moisturized! I layer the smoothie over the Maui Moisture Curl Quench Hair Milk and apply just a small amount of the Maui Moisture Heal and Hydrate Shea Butter Raw Oil to my ends. But it would be nice if they created an oil and even a gel from this line to use with the hair milk and curling smoothie. But will definitely be a HG product moving forward!

This hair mask is a very thick cream that is meant to be left in and used to style curly hair with. I have 2c/3a wavy/curly hair and love this whether using it to style my hair and wear natural or if when I dry and flat iron it. This cream is ultra-moisturizing and smells positively delicious. It does not feel greasy in the least. I use this as a first step in styling products when letting my hair dry natural as it doesn’t seal the ends as much as I would like it to. But it softens and coats the cuticles on my hair and leaves it looking shiny and healthy. Did I mention the scent? Yes, ok, I’m a bit obsessed with coconut scented products as long as they smell authentic and this is one of those fantastic smelling products in my opinion. Normally I don’t like products that you have to scoop out of jars but in this case the cream is so thick there is no way it would be easily dispensed from a bottle or tube. I will repurchase this when I run out.
