I have tried both the 1 inch and 1.25 inch versions of the curlipops (non-tapered) curling wands, and kept/continue to use the 1 inch model.
Both feature a relatively fast heat-up time (roughly 3 minutes), although there is no indicator of when they have reached optimum heat or what the temperature is. They are billed to heat up to 400• F but the only button is an on/off switch. It is backlit the whole time it is switched to on. There is no temperature display or method to adjust temperature.
Both wands are intended for voluminous, looser styles – the 1 inch produces more of a voluminous loose curl and the 1.25 inch more of a looser wave. The wand you choose depends on what you’re looking for as the result. I have long (past bra strap), medium thickness hair and both worked well for me. I prefer the more curly look the 1 inch wand creates. They are “big beachy curls” but have more volume and hold a bit better (longer in duration). I can sleep on them and brush through and still have soft waves, whereas the 1.25 inch look is looser to start with and so falls out more quickly and easily (would be unlikely to stand up to humidity). There would still be some bend to my hair after sleeping but it would need to be restyled to be “ready.”
Both wands have a long cord with a swivel mount that makes them easy to use. The handles are comfortable and the button is not inconveniently placed so no concerns of accidentally switching it off. The barrels are a smooth, matte/polished silver metal, and both wands come with a single glove to use on your non-wand hand for “heat protection.” Best of all – and the reason I bought – is that these wands are billed as dual voltage and can be used with an adapter plug in Europe/outside the US! I will be testing that soon and if for some reason they don’t work I’ll update the review, but other reviews online seem to indicate they are easily versatile as far as the electrical component. Yay!
I got the 1 inch wand for a steal on amazon with a coupon for $14 (regularly $19, still very reasonable) and the 1.25 inch is listed as $27.99. Very fair prices for both considering the high quality.
The wands produce beautiful results, are sturdily built, easy to use, and a good price. My Remington pearl curling wand is still my preferred and HG because I prefer the ceramic coating to the metal (for minimizing damage that little bit extra), it has lasted me over 5 years, and you can adjust/see the temperature. However this wand is a great alternate, especially if you’re looking for dual voltage options!
UPDATE: Dual voltage worked seamlessly in Europe; only needed a plug adapter, no converter. This iron works great and has beautiful results at home and abroad!
