I am a huge fan of this simply wonderful company and line whether their hair care or body care products. I have gone as natural as possible in beauty care as honestly everything we use sinks into our skin so why not go for natural quality products as opposed to all the chemicals I used for years. Finding such lines isn’t easy and sometimes too expensive however this line surprisingly was under my nose for years and Target/Walgreens. I have always had somewhat sensitive underarms when it comes to shaving etc as even with the best (or so I thought) shave creams/razors and being gentle I would always have razor bumps. I had been using Tendskin for years now as it has helped a good majority but wasn’t a fan of the rubbing alcohol smell/feel. My current shave cream wasn’t doing it for me anymore and decided to finally give this a try as I have seen it at Target for years. Having been so impressed with the many other Shea Moisture products I am using since last year (like their hair shampoos/masks and awesome body washes) I figured the shave products might be just as good. Well I am glad that this shave cream was just that. I have tried tons of natural and organics shave creams over the years in my trials but they honestly just never worked for me. The idea of nourishing oils/creams always sounded great but every single formula I tried (Kiss my Face, Aubrey, Jason Natural, Trader Joes, list goes on) all either left my razors so clogged/greasy from oils I couldn’t finish a shave or they didn’t give me a good shave at all.
This product’s formula however is perfection. It is super thick and creamy looking like a body butter (very faint non existent shea butter smell, doesn’t smell fruity like the other Coconut Hibiscus products in the line do) but it somehow plays well either on dry skin (super convenient when in hurry) and especially on wet skin. It gives the areas you shave that nourishing softening barrier they need but still allows for a close shave without irritation. Also doesn’t clog my razor and I just rinse it a tad every few strokes. Might not be a big deal for those people who don’t have fussy anything and can get away with using the simplest product but for those with similar issues or irritation this product is just a dream. I am over all the chemical filled ridiculously lathering mainstream shave gels/creams which I enjoyed most of my life growing up as they of course come in delicious fruity scents and all that insane whipped cream lather (just like in shampoos?body washes lather doesn’t mean better and usually just strips moisture) makes you feel like it is doing something but it isn’t. They never nourished or protected my skin and makes perfect sense now of why I was always left with the classic irritation.
As most quality shave creams I have used this does come in a jar which isn’t the best in the shower but I am just careful when I use it to not open it right near my shower head and once the lid is on keeps all the water out without a problem. Worth the slight hassle for such a good product and I don’t even have to follow with my Tendskin roller anymore. My legs and underarms were so silky smooth. I am so impressed with this product I can’t wait to try the line’s after shave lotion and spray elixir as well for a natural alternative in preventing bumps/hair growing back slower. Just like with the body washes in the line I don’t even need to use moisturizer after. Can’t recommend this more for ladies who want an amazing shave/nourishment on all our sensitive areas and they also have a men’s line version of their shave products but the women’s aren’t super girly or very scented so my bf always reaches for mine! 🙂
