This is an excellent product. I use the dark blonde shade between visits to hairdresser and works really well. Only caveat is that I leave on for longer. Half an hour approximately.

Had my hair done in the salon. I’m usually a rooty butterscotch color when I get it done, which is about every two years or so, some balayage from the middle to the ends to add sunlight to my natural light warm brown. This time I asked to go a bit sunnier and a bit higher up, and I wasn’t happy with the result. I’m not used to having my hair light around my face, and with the heavy handed bleach, I looked washed out. I wasn’t able to go back to the salon for a fix, so I decided to risk trying to fix it myself at home. I liked the paint that was done throughout and only really wanted to darken the top/uppermost layer to put my natural color back by my face and at the roots. Bought this Root Touch Up kit in Light Golden Brown 6G, as that is the closet shade to my natural color.
Despite being a novice to painting on color myself, this kit worked terrific for my intentions and the results were great. As it is a root touch up kit and not a full color box, you get a bit less dye quantity, but it it still permanent dye. You also don’t have to leave this on as long – 10-15 minutes compared to 30-40 with all over box color (depending on what color you’re starting from). From the last stroke of application to rinse out, I left it on for 13 minutes, and I was starting from a lighter, bleached warm color. I wanted to make sure the dye would set and not end up brassy/orange, which is why I went a few extra minutes over the suggested 10.
Backing up to the process though, it’s a straightforward kit with everything you need. The little bowl is fine for mixing the small bottle of developer and the tube of color. The formula does not drip at all, and compared to some at home color I’ve used in the past, is relatively clean and quite low on chemical fumes. It stays exactly where you apply it, with plenty of credit to the included application brush. The brush is perfect for the job. Efficient, easily able to pinpoint exactly where you want the color to go and spread the liquid through evenly. I was only doing the top layer of my hair with strategic cover for the bleached sections I didn’t like and this brush was perfect for doing that very well, without getting any color where I didn’t want it.
Prep, application and setting time took 25 minutes. Rinsed out easily with no lingering dye scent or residue. No mess left behind in the shower, either. Color looked terrific and only took the one application. It dried to exactly the color I expected – natural looking light golden brown with zero brass. As it is still box dye, it’s a little “flatter” in tone than natural or salon color (less shine) but it’s damn good for at-home results.
The dye and application tool were easy to use and well made. The outcome was as expected, pretty, fairly natural-looking, and easy to get. I remedied a $150 3 hour salon job with a $10 25 min kit. I would absolutely buy this again for the same sort of purpose (minimal at home touch up with a clear sense of where color should be applied and using a shade intended to match natural color) and am very happy with my experience with it.

I can’t believe how well this product covered my roots. I was skeptical because I pull brassy tones. I am a blonde and need color every 6-8 weeks. I have dark roots that come in quick. I thought I’d give this a try as my coworker uses it. I can’t believe what I’ve been missing be all these years. It’ll save me time, money and hair damage.

Five stars across the board!! I picked this up in the shade that matches black dyes, and really wasn’t expecting much. For some reason I thought it would take much more precision than it did, or wouldn’t match the rest of my hair.
Not only did it blend in seamlessly with my hair color, which isn’t jet black but more of a soft or natural black, but it was extremely foolproof to apply and literally took all of ten minutes even with me applying it to my whole head and not just the hairline and part, as the instructions suggest. The brush they give you is the perfect size for applying the correct amount of product while still being precise.
It doesn’t fry my hair or wash out quickly, and lasts just as long as the more expensive brands of hair dye I’ve used. The price is right regardless, but there are always sales on these I’ve noticed. I like to stock up on them because I’m someone who gets pretty high maintenance about doing my roots every two weeks.

I’ve been using this for several years now to touch up grays and I like it so much that I tried the Clairol Perfect 10 (which was a huge disappointment, as you can see in my review). One box of Root Touch Up is about the same price as a box of the regular Nice N Easy hair color but you get about 1/4 the amount of product. So you pay more, but you get a much better, quicker formula and the option to mix colors if you decide to use 2 boxes, which I have to do in order to cover all my grays. I use one box of Medium Ash Brown and 1 box of Light Ash Brown, mixing everything together, and I seem to get the perfect shade for me.
Pros:
– Great job of covering grays, especially my stubborn white/clear roots, although I keep it in an extra 10-15 minutes.
– 10 minute application time (unless you have extra stubborn grays, in which case you might want to double the time, but then it’s still less than half the time of doing your entire head with the regular formulas).
– Thicker paste-like formula than the regular Nice N Easy, so it is less runny and less likely to drip and make a mess.
– Since you’re covering a smaller amount of hair with the stuff, the rinse time is much quicker than the regular Nice N Easy (which for me can take forever, it seems).
– I don’t get any of the itchy reaction that I do to the regular Nice N Easy or to that horrible Natural Instints (I also reviewed).
Cons:
– Amount provided is probably less than half that you actually need, so it’s not a great value; I have to use 2 boxes if I want to make sure I cover all my grays, which of course I do!
– The little brush and tiny plastic dish are not great, but if you have nothing else, I guess they will have to do. I use my own bowl and my own brush, but then again, I have to use 2 of these boxes, so I need a bigger bowl.

Awful!!! Why would I buy this when it is almost the same price as a full size, Tried this to just hit my roots that were showing gray. Didn’t even cover for one week. I would be better of buying the full size of Revlon Color Silk and touching up with that for half the price. Does NOT cover grays at all. Not worth it!!!

Root Touch Up contains just enough product for me to color the roots around my face, which need to be colored more often than the rest of my hair. (I used number 8, Medium Blond.) I left the color on longer (25 minutes) because my gray is resistant. The brush works very well to get the color on all hair, and the plastic container is ideal for mixing the color cream and activator. I also use the brush to color the same area when I color my whole head with Clairol Nice ‘n Easy Natural Medium Blond.

YIKES! 1st time EVER coloring my minimal grays…I’ve been resisting because I LIKE my natural hair color – medium brown with lots of natural blonde and red highlights from the sun. So I did loads of research before buying this. Used it on day old hair so it would “stick” better (as advised online), covered all grays thoroughly, left on for 20 minutes just to make sure it would take….it was easy to use but there wasn’t a lot of product for my super thick hair. And it looked pretty natural at first (but a bit yellowish). I was surprised! I almost forgot about my recent foray into gray hair! And it lasted through 1 sulfate-free shampoo. 1 week later and my grays are shining again in their briefly forgotten glory…

So many negatives. First of all there is not enough product. I got through about 2/3 of my roots and ran out. That’s ridiculous for about the same price as a full hair dye kit. The next issue is that it didn’t come out medium brown, it was lighter than I would have expected and doesn’t really match my hair. Last issue is that it didn’t cover my gray. I would say it slightly masked some of the gray, but it was not good coverage. I would not use this again and do not recommend this product

Pretty decent product, usually when I buy a home dye kit it turns my hair orange or does nothing at all, this one actually turned my hair a dark blonde at the roots (I left it on for 25 mins after application). It probably could have done with another 10 mins to make it brighter but overall very good. Only two reasons for not giving it a 5 star are 1. Could do with a slightly bigger bottle and 2. I think the 10-15 mins guideline is a bit misleading. Other than that it’s great!
