The quality of the product is good and delivers a nice color — although the color they sent me was a shade too dark even though I explained that my aging hair absorbs more dye so I need a shade lighter — and the customer service is very good, but it dried my hair out. I had expected more from such a relatively expensive at-home dye. I’m going to go back to using Naturcolor.

So I wanted permanent color -going from dark brown to black. I wanted jet black but one I picked said its more neutral toned and I got recommendation for soft blue black. I got my color in the mail, all looked fine, I followed the instructions exactly, color looked pretty good-jet blue black that was not harsh. I didn’t wash my hair for 48 hours just in case. Alas after ONE shampoo, color didn’t look as black. After two shampoos, it had obvious brown tint. It looked literally like my color was being washed away. keep in mind that I don’t even wash my hair every day and I used sulfate free shampoos for color treated hair.
4 weeks later my hair is dark brown, only slightly darker than my natural color. It doesn’t look black at all. I called their rep and was told that perhaps it was the tone I got because some people want softer color that they can change. Dude, If I want PERMANENT BLACK COLOR, what do you think I am asking for?? Rep I spoke with said that its rather unusual that my color faded immediately and they can reformulate my color to make sure its the darkest one they have. They also offered me a refund and to try their color again. I said yes but I am still wondering if I want to do this again. I will update my review after I try their color one more time.
ps I have some grey and those got excellent coverage that stayed. If only the color actually stayed in my hair. FYI I basically had virgin hair, untouched by any color.
Their customer service is really good, but jury is out on actual color
UPDATE. I tried their color again for the second time. It didn’t fade as quickly as the first time but still faded to dark brown within a month. Also, a friend of mine who also tried their service and who also colors her hair from brown to jet black, had her hair color fade exact same way as mine did. So obviously its not just my hair or my technique. I will not be ordering from them again

I heard raves about this service. I used to color my hair blue black since high school but I took a hiatus and let my hair grow in to its natural dark ashy brown. I probably would have never colored it again as I really hate the process but I started going prematurely grey as most women in my family. And most hair salons in my area are charging 90+dollars on hair color so I decided to try doing it myself since my color was all over and I was going darker so it didn’t seem that complicated.
I sent in my picture, made note that my skin is super pale and cool toned, and asked for cool toned blue black, mentioning that I needed to cover lot of grey hair. Process itself was pretty straightforward(thank heavens for stain remover) although getting that color out of my hair took several shampoos. After shampoo and conditioner, my hair felt pretty smooth and soft. Color looks good. Based on that, I would do it through them again

EDIT: I stopped using them a while ago. The last time I used this product, the color was completely different from previous purchases — way darker. They apologized profusely and offered free product to make up for it. But that didn’t change the fact that my color was wrong for the next 6 weeks, until I could afford to go to a salon. I’m not taking the chance again. Clearly, their quality control with regard to colorists is non-existent. Also, I believe they used to tell a customer the name of their colorist. They no longer do that. I wonder why. Their prices are fantastic but, unfortunately, like so many other things, you get what you pay for.
FIRST REVIEW: I’m thrilled to pieces with eSalon. The color is perfect, and my hair looks great. I didn’t want to stop coloring my hair, but the cost to go to the salon was getting ridiculous. Not only that, but if I’m paying $100+++ to get my hair colored, it better look good. My stylist wasn’t adjusting the processing time to the way my hair was changing, and getting my hair colored seemed to be doing some damage. eSalon’s customer service is excellent, and it’s easy to adjust the frequency, color etc., as needed. The gray coverage is every bit as good as having my hair colored professionally, and the color is shiny and beautiful, not cheap/fake looking like the drugstore brands I’ve tried in the past. I highly recommend, and it only costs about $10 the first time to try it.

I’ve spent years and a lot of money going to salons and was never very happy with my color. I have well water so my color always turns orange/gold. I’m a natural dark blonde. ESalon sent me a color for my roots and I love it. It is exactly what I wanted. It is now two weeks post-coloring and I still love it. The color is staying true. The packaging and customer service is wonderful. I highly recommend.

I had a great experience with the eSalon hair color. First of all, it was nice to get help online choosing the color. Normally, I would go to Sally and try to decide which color of Wella colorcharm to get. I felt like the eSalon color didn’t dry my hair out and was gentler. In the shower, I was surprised by the brown washing out of my hair after I colored it, but the color turned out just like I wanted.

Everything about the packaging and the kit is great, and I LOVE the concept of the customized shades, but the product itself didn’t deliver for me. I was sent a color for my roots and a color for my ends, which were supposed amount to a medium auburn (3/4 of my hair was a faded auburn red and the rest was dark, ashy brown roots). The ends turned a gorgeous intense auburn, but the roots were left a muddy brown and it didn’t do anything to my hair underneath in the back (still ashy dark brown).
Also, what color was deposited washed out in a week. I know red fades fast, but all the drugstore reds I’ve used didn’t fade this fast. One good thing is it didn’t damage my hair at all. I’m really glad others have had a positive experience, maybe it’s just my hair 🙁

While I was coloring my hair with esalon, I felt like it wasn’t any better than drugstore color. But that was wrong – my roots are FINALLY the same color as the rest of my hair (they always came out lighter in the past). My hair hasn’t looked this natural since I was in my 20s, so I am a full convert. Getting deliveries is also really nice because I usually let my roots go too long before purchasing more color.

I decided to try the $10 introductory order, and wasn’t too happy that it automatically enrolls you in an auto ship. You can easily turn that off, under your account settings.
I sent them a picture, described what I wanted, and they sent exactly what I asked for. They give you everything! A brush, shampoo, conditioner, color block for your skin and stain remover wipes with two pairs of nice gloves. My hair is very thick and usually requires two bottles. There is a surprising amount of color included. I didn’t even finish one bottle after doing my entire head! It does smell strong and will dye anything in its path, but the grey coverage was 100%, much better than store bought. I immediately went in and signed up for the auto ship as I don’t want to go back to drugstore color. Very impressed and it’s well worth $20.

Okay so I have been trying to find the right shade of blonde forever like it’s exhausting. My hair dresser gave me a blonde that was too warm and just looked orange even when i toned it. So the next time I went I asked for no warmth so I got yellow? UGH I was getting so frustrated. I was trying different salons and no one could give me a nice blonde. How hard is it honestly? The latest blonde i was was ash but really ash like grey. NOOOO. So i thought what do I have to lose.
I went on esalon and started filling out the questions. I didn’t even add a picture and a stylist never did contact me so i thought my request was pretty straight forward. I selected the light ash for current color and selected light cool beige blonde for my new color.
The package came and i was so excited! It is so cute even has your name right on the booklet! lol. So i followed the directions and colored my hair. Smell was fine nothing worse than what you smell in the salon. My color came out amazing. I will admit it scared me a bit it was a little darker than I wanted but with 2-3 washes omg it is the most beautiful blonde I have ever had. It is exactly what it sounds like. Cool beige blonde. it looks amazing on me! Everyone is complementing my hair and asking where i went to finally get a good blonde. I don’t think anyone really believes that i got it from eSalon lol. It is beautiful soft, shiny, gorgeous. My confidence is HUGE now!! Love my hair color. eSalon got it right when no one else could.
I would recommend this over and over and over again!
Thank you eSalon!!!
