   I never thought I’d find a rose I could wear… this is it!! What I love about it is that it isn’t too strong, and it has a totally atypical ‘rose’ scent. It reminds me of a headshop rose oil, but with really high quality damascus rose attar. It definitely is quite musky, and even, dare I say, musty, like the roses have been growing unkempt out in the wild…. blooms that are a dusky reddish-pink color, that you may have found growing hundreds of years ago naturally in a patch of sunlight in a dark forest in Europe somewhere.
   It definitely evokes the mood of a lonesome woman in the country, perhaps some aura of witchcraft in her herb garden, surrounded by brewing tinctures, potions and oils. It is not a rose your grandmother would wear, (unless that is, she fits this description). Nor is it a particularly conservative rose (imagine that, from Sergie L)! Quickly I have grown fond of this old classic, a staple from my past I have misplaced….
   Aha! dear rosie of my memory, we meet again at last….,… I can’t wait to own a bell jar of this very special perfume.
   And to conclude, yes, I am the type to love things that are countrified, old-fashioned, and almost pagan.. and if you are, this is a must-try for you as well.
   The drydown is musky and animalic, for a second, it -did- reek of urine (i’m not going to lie, my daughter commented, “mommy, i smell pee pee”).. sure, it could have been something else, but I smelled everything else in the room. Upon smelling the perfume emanating from my wrist, I did not detect urine, but rather, a musky, animalic smell, definitely some type of civet or chypre/muskiness you’d get with … all those classic perfumes I haven’t yet sampled that are on their way to me 🙂 [Jicky?]

   I’ll admit, I -have- tried these chypre/musk classics before, when I was 12, visiting my cousin in Germany. We concocted a big mess in a pot of all of her mother’s hand-me-down perfume samples, which did include Jicky, how could I forget that name.. and we thought it smelled wonderful and covered ourselves in it… =)

   It is a beautiful, classic chypre/animalic with just the right amount of rose peeking through at all points, to evoke the image of a countrified, wildly growing rosebush, blossoming freely but not surrounding you with its subtle emanations of scent. You will catch wisps of it in the breeze and linger for more. This is a fragrance that warms up very nicely in the sun, and is definitely perfect for spring/summer. I would characterize it as a daytime scent, but perhaps at night it is just as lovely as well.

   One more thing– I haven’t noticed the attention from the male gaze yet, but women, who normally don’t pay much attention to me, were very friendly and talkative and lingered chatting with me when I wore this! The conversation flowed easily and was enjoyable. This is a highly unusual experience for me, and one that I wish happened more often!! I will be getting a bell jar, oh well if I end up having too many.

   Definitely a dark, skanky, old fashioned drose.
   Forget this is you like lighter roses like the Rosines or Paris… this rose is sultry and evokes a dark lady, a vamp, a moves star of the Twenties… black bob and purple-red lips.
   It is definitely a chypre w/ a lot of a skanky/musky base.
   Animalic with a sweet honey and fruity heart, where you can smell a hint of jasmine (but really overpowered by this full blossoming red rose).
   Not very easy to wear, as you must have the looks and the situation, in my opinion…. It’s huge and claiming attention.
   Not appropriate for office or casual wear, it can change the destiny of a date.. .o)
   Incredible lasting power.

   This is a deep, blood red, plump rose…like an over ripe raspberry. It’s a dark flower – for sure. I tried this a few months ago at the Palais Royale and walked away form the store with it languishing on my wrist. Within an hour I knew it would be mine on the next visit. I fought between this beauty and the fresher ‘Un Lys’, but i decided I wanted this flower to be mine.
   It’s the fuzziness of this that gets me, it’s like cashmere – warm, all enveloping…extremely seductive. It stays close to the skin, a ‘me’ perfume for ‘me’ alone.
   A special one.
