This is my favorite perfume in the entire Narciso Rodriguez line. I’m not a fan of the brand like some of my friends are. Its flankers often smell chemically and harsh on my skin, with too little projection for my liking. However, I quite like Poudree. It is a soft, cozy, comfortable and caressing little sister to thicker, denser, more complex and ambitious powders – some vintage, some niche and some simply luxurious. It gives that clean and soft makeup powder satisfaction when more complex stuff feels too much or when I just want a pared down but cozy feel still retaining a well-made character. My usual makeup bag fragrances are either from Guerlain or from Frederic Malle. But there are those days when I just want something with a mellow, pleasant presence and Narciso Poudree definitely gives it to me. I don’t have many make-up products and cannot compare, but Narciso Poudree always reminds me of the satisfaction I get from my beloved Chanel Poudre Universelle compact. It has a casual chic vibe in its own right and attracts a lot of compliments when I use it together with the matching lotion to be able to increase its sillage a bit. It is one of those perfumes that easily becomes second skin, and does this well IMO.
Top notes are apparently rose, jasmin and orange blossom. I don’t care for the opening because with Narciso Rodriguez, I always get a rather chemical burst at first and wait for it to pass. Luckily, the heart emerges in a minute and from there on, it is pretty linear on my skin with that well-rounded, clean but very soft smell. I’m happy that no flower is particularly dominant and that there is no strong rose or violet giving it a vintage feel. Just a light blushing rose that does not dominate the mellow powder feel. It is not harsh like talc, either.
My only complaint is the low sillage and lasting power. It is a skin scent alright, but it could have just a bit more presence so that I would not have to spray it multiple times during a day.
I can see myself buying it again because I like having one perfume with this character in my collection, but I’m also curious about Chloe Nomade Absolue actually.
3.5 because of the projection and lasting power issue.
