I received a sample of this and was surprised to find that I like it. I haven’t been a fan of the newer generation of fragrances being made, so I was pleased to find this. I like the fact that it is not an overwhelming scent and that although the name implies that it will smell of rose, in my opinion it doesn’t. I wouldn’t purchase it again, however, since I find it is not that special and would not become a signature scent for me, but I am happy to wear it in until I finish the bottle.

I thought I had found a replacement for my beloved (reformulated) Stella. Rose Excelsa is such a beautiful scent: rosey, but not excessively so, with the same floral notes as ”Dolce”. Extremely feminine, pretty, and nonoffensive.
The problem? For the price, it has the staying power of a cheap eau du toilette. I expect ”parfum” that I pay good money for to last for at least several hours. This beauty is gone in 2 hours, tops.
In my research, the demise of my old favorite (complaints that it is now a watery, non-lasting shadow of its former self) was due to the acquisition of the company by Procter and Gamble, the owner of another short-lasting favorite of mine, Christina Aguilera. Incidentally, P&G also produces D&G fragrances, and here we have the same problem…
Another beauty ruined by what I will now refer to as ”the P&G kiss of death”. Vote with your wallet and stop paying P&G prices consistent with high-quality perfumes, only to get scented water in return!

Just in time for Valentines day (yeah, i know…it was a few months ago) there is a brand new, rose tinged Dolce and Gabbana fragrance – a gentle yet bright floral scent that is both classic and romantic. Forget a dozen long-stemmed roses, this year every girl in the know will be wishing for a bottle of Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum. Much like past editions of the Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce franchise, Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum is beautifully presented and in a similar manner too. Back once again is a timeless, frosted glass bottle finished off with a black bow and a delicate red rose cap. It is whimsical, fun yet not at all cheesy – this is a bottle you will display with pride. Now for the actual fragrance, as you have most likely guessed Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum does of course feature more than a hint of rose. Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum has been created to capture the freshness and pure spirit of a rose in bloom; this is achieved by blending two rose notes. For the first time ever in the world of perfumery, African Dog Rose is relied upon, for depth and richness this is combined with the delicate Turkish Rose Absolute. To prevent the scent from being too rose based, Rose Excelsa contains light, bright and white floral notes of: Neroli leaves and Papaya flowers, White Water Lily and White Daffodil, with a seductive kick of Sandalwood at the base to promote wear length. I must stress that unlike other rose fragrances Dolce and Gabbana, Dolce Rosa Excelsa Eau de Parfum, this is fresh and not at all powdery. It is classic yet youthful and should appeal to most ages and tastes for that matter – in my opinion it is the perfect Spring scent; it reminds me a lot of dew and Spring bouquets. Think of this as a rose tinged version of the original Dolce fragrance and you won’t go far wrong. Also, the commercial the goes along with the ad is enchanting….search for it on youtube and i think you will agree and Sophia Loren could not have been a better face for the advertising as well. To my nose this smells just like rose water. A delicate whisper of something as beautiful as Repunzel with her long beautiful hair.

Love this!!! It’s a mellow, soft rose with a mild sweet fruitiness to it — almost like a drop of red raspberry has been added. Stays close to the skin, polite, elegant — it’s a quietly beautiful rose — a soft-spoken, gauzy, calming rose scent. Probably the most mellowed-out soothingly soft rose fragrance I’ve ever experienced. It relaxes me to wear it — and also gives me a quiet ladylike confidence at the same time.
This EDP launched in 2016, here are the notes, per parfumo.net:
Top Notes – Neroli, Papaya blossom
Heart Notes – Amaryllis, Waterlily, Turkish rose, African dog rose
Base Notes – Musk, Sandalwood, Cashmeran
The big quibble I see in most reviews is strength (or lack) vs high price. As with original Dolce (which I don’t like *nearly* as well as Rosa), the scent itself is rather subtle, needs to be refreshed, and it’s quite expensive. But for church, restaurants, theater, workplace, crowded public places — the sillage is low, the strength is just right — it’s inoffensive to others.
I was unable to find a gift set of Rosa Excelsa in our stores, or online, before Mother’s Day — and layering with lotion would help to hold the scent. Nevertheless, I love love love this perfume — I don’t mind refreshing it — and I don’t mind buying more, when the time comes. I’ll take this beautiful fragrance however I can get it — I just had to have it — but next time (Christmas maybe?) I do hope to find a gift set with lotion.
Fans of legendary Sophia Loren should enjoy seeing the 81-yr-old Italian actress in the video advertising Italian design duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s latest perfume launch. They previously created a lipstick in her name, so she has worked with them before. Sophia’s star power, elegance, class, and beauty will undoubtedly boost sales of this very nice perfume.

Smells absolutely wonderful. Not a heavy rose scent, and not overwhelming.

This should be called Lilly Excelsa, given that I get a lot more of that than the rose. The rose that did show up was very pretty, but boy was it short-lived. If you want a lilly-rose fragrance that wouldn’t offend anyone, this is probably a good bet. There wasn’t anything offensive in it.

I’ve read some scathing reviews of this, but I like it, for what it is. Frankly, I expect little from new fragrance releases, so when one catches my attention, it’s pretty exciting. The original “Dolce” does nothing for me…I can barely smell it, and I think it’s boring (on my skin!). I am a lifelong rose gardener and roses continue to be one of the greatest passions in my life. This does not smell like roses, really. It smells vaguely like white flowers with some rose scent in the background. It’s extremely “clean” but it doesn’t smell like air freshener or laundry detergent. It smells like “perfume” as far as that goes since IFRA went insane. The bottle is very pretty, and this is definitely a lovely warm weather fragrance. I wouldn’t purchase a bottle larger than the 1 oz because this is so light I suspect it will turn quickly. It’s not as over-priced as many department store fragrances, but, for example, a Chanel will give you far more “bang for your buck”. Still, I really enjoy Dolce Rosa Excelsa, and it’s a good purchase for me. If you like Florabotanica (I LOVE Florabotanica) you’ll probably like this as well. They don’t smell alike, but they are both fresh scents haunted by rose. Rosa Elcelsa’s lasting power on skin is good. It lasts a few hours, especially when I’m warm. It’s fabulous and wonderful that the legendary, exquisitely lovey Sophia Loren is in the ads for Rosa Excelsa. I have always thought of her as one of the most beautiful women who has ever lived, and the connection to such a glamourous star gives an extra bit of fun to wearing Rosa Excelsa.
