OK, this is gorgeous!
I’ll try to keep the backstory brief, but I initially tested this out alongside Angel, which was a BIG no-no for me. My skin took the patchouli and chocolate and ran with it, producing a screechy, offensive armpittish odor with a hint of cocoa butter lotion. Shame, as I know so many love it. It was just not meant to be with my skin. Alien was a whole other story. I fell in love with it instantly. It’s simple in notes – jasmine, amber and a touch of wood – but it’s so PERFECT. Everyone loves it on me, including people who aren’t fans of fragrance. I get compliments galore, people wanting to know what it is.
The jasmine is a perfect one that avoids the “sunscreen jasmine” and “fecal jasmine” tropes. It is just a pretty, ethereal, feminine, crisp jasmine, nothing SPF-y or toiletty about it. It’s a note that’s hard for a lot of perfumers to get right, which is just another reason to appreciate Mugler! The amber keeps it from being too overtly floral, adding warmth and a little bit of excitement. The wood is really subtle, seeming to be creeping in the background to tone down any extreme loudness and sweetness. The jasmine is the star of the show though, and the note most noticeable on the initial spray. The sillage is, I’d say, medium to strong. It’s not Angel (and thank goodness for that), but it is noticeable. I’m telling you, it makes heads turn, but not in a bad way. It lasts ALL DAY, still clinging lightly after a shower. It’s lasted through eight-hour shifts in the sweltering summers.
The most exciting thing about Alien is the mix of simplicity and complexity. Something with only three notes can somehow manage to smell so glamorous and complex!
The bottle is pretty and very galactic-looking. Honestly, I initially preferred Angel’s bottle initially, but I got enchanted by the bright purple starship-like perfume bottle on my dresser quickly! Having it be refillable is a great bonus, too, a great initiative by Mugler. And I got a free 1.0 oz. Alien body cream after registering my bottle to be in their Circle, which is amazing customer service.

I’ve been a fan of this perfume since it first came out in 2005, honestly because of the insane, geometric & unique packaging.
I remember my teenage self staring at the bottle for almost a year after caving in & purchasing it. (that’s how important packaging is folks!)
From first spray you can smell the jasmine quickly along with the amber & woods. The jasmine almost has a syrupy, honeyed scent to it. They all come together nicely without being sickly sweet or too oriental.
As for the staying power WOW, over 10 hours on the skin. The sillage is very strong too… probably one of the strongest designer scents, can reach every corner of the room really. 1-2 sprays are enough for the whole body so the bottle can last a long time too!
All in all, a very nostalgic scent for me with a special place in my heart.
Sure it only has around 3 notes or so, but sometimes simple is the best 🙂
ALSO WHY IS THERE 2 ALIEN PARFUMS REGISTERED ON MAKEUP ALLEY? haha

I am very simple when it comes to fragrance and rarely change from a couple of favourites. I was running low on perfume and my husband wanted to buy me some for Mothers Day. The assistant in Priceline told us that Alien was so popular that they could barely keep it on the shelf. There was one bottle left and after trying the tester, I could see why this was so popular. I am not good at describing fragrance, but the thing that struck me most was that I hadn’t really come across anything similar to this before. My husband loved the smell and so did I. It is one of those subtle fragrances that just sits really nicely without being overpowering. It does not wear off like many perfumes do and at the end of the day, it is still there. This perfume does not change throughout the day either. I would recommend that people try a sample of this either on a card or directly onto the skin via a tester as it is very unusual and very feminine.

I’m no perfume connoisseur so don’t expect a technical review with all the correct words! I have a love/hate relationship with this. There are elements of the fragrance that I love but there is also something about the smell that I’m not so keen on. Sometimes I get a whiff of it and it reminds me of something medicated, other times I can smell a beautiful and divine sweet fragrance. I’ll give it this – it’s a very unique perfume IMO, there’s nothing quite like it (that I have tested) on the market.

This has been my autumn/winter evening perfume for years, if I felt like I could wear it in spring or summer I would and if it wasn’t so expensive I would wear it during the day too because this perfume blows the rest out of the water for me, it’s on a totally different level of amazing, i don’t think anything will ever compare to this perfume for me, I’ve tried a million perfume samples before and after this and they just cannot top this, I like delicate florals during the day too but that is more about feeling fresh for me, as scents go Alien edp is unbeatable.
I first tried this when I was with my son’s dad, he bought it for me for our anniversary and I remember my eyes rolling back into my head in ecstasy, i had no idea then what I was smelling all I knew is that it was mindblowlingly addictive, I still feel the same way and always will, i feel like this scent was made for me, everything about it even the name. This scent is phenomenal, there is no other word for it and even that doesn’t do it justice.
Some people find this scent too much, I do understand why, it is dirty/sexy smelling but in a gorgeous way and if worn at the wrong time it can easily overpower and smell dirty, not in the way that patchouli can make you feel but in a way that is just a tad overbearing for normal setting, I also think anybody could wear this BUT it kinda depends when, you have to look and feel confident and it’s best suited to when you are dressed for a night out with make up done looking a tad sexy and immaculate, the reason for this is that this person can easily wear you and take over, if your in t-shirt and jeans or in a pretty floral summer dress this isn’t the time to be wearing Alien, in my opinion.
The scent itself is intoxicating, it’s one of those scents that if smelt on somebody you wouldn’t neseccarily think it smells “beautiful”, it isn’t a timid girly pretty scent, it IS beautiful but it’s beautiful in an extremely unique way. When I’ve worn it I’ve had people ask what I’m wearing and they can’t pinpoint what exactly it is they just say wow what is that strangely beautiful smell, that’s how I would describe it too, “strangely beautiful”, it’s unique, it’s completely in a league of its own. The only perfume that could be compared to this to me anyway, is Gucci rush, although they smell nothing alike they are both otherworldly scents, both are extremely unique, I can’t wear Gucci rush even though I think it’s amazing and that’s because it’s more of a clubbing scent, Alien is alot more classy than Gucci rush too and so even though you have to be careful when you wear it it is still alot more wearable that Gucci.
I rarely leave reviews but I had to for this, Thierry Mugler is an absolute genius, I have tried some of the others but none of them compare to this, Thierry Mugler broke the mould with this beauty. It is different yes and I do see why some feel like it’s a bit too different to wear, I can also see why people might not like to smell this on somebody else bit I think alot of that is down to how much they spray, this is in np way offensive if you use a light hand, a few sprays is enough and it lasts days on clothes too, the lasting power is unbelievable.
Overall hands down absolutely genius scent, with only 3 notes it is extremely surprising, nothing will ever compare to this beauty for me and if it is ever discontinued I would actually cry, it’s the only scent I’ve ever got completely attached to.
Phenomenal in every sense of the word.

This has always been under my top five ultimate favourite scents, and although I haven’t been wearing it as often lately, it is still one of my ultimate favourites. I love that it is so different, and even the name makes a point of advertising that it is not a typical standard perfume scent. The mixture and combination of amber, wood, and jasmine together is beautifully original, and no other perfume in my opinion comes close to this scent. It is so unlike a standard overbearing perfume scent, and I am so lucky I tried it, because I was wanting to get angel at the time, just testing alien because it was also by Thierry Mugler (which I did, and I wanted to love it, but it just didn’t work for me, yet I fell in love with alien instead!)

I never understood the hype on this one.
The first time I tried it all i could smell was very, very strong toothpaste mentholated to the point it made my eyes burn and water. Weeks after opening the bottle, when the scent settled, I got the jasmine. It’s just, well, jasmine, not any “extraordinary kind” of jasmine at all. Although it no longer smelled like straight up toothpaste, some of that remained, and it continued to burn my eyes. No perfume has ever done that to me, and it didn’t feel like an allergy, but like the burning and chill of menthol products.
Whatever makes it remarkable, popular, iconic, it completely passed me by and it’s not something I’d repurchase. Don’t like mint, able to get nice jasmine elsewhere, so no point.
Lasts forever. Much to my chagrin, in this case.
Don’t personally like “unusual” bottles as they feel infantile to me, but I can live with them, and it’d be nice for those who like visual variety on their vanity.
For those who think this jasmine note is nice, but dislike the mentholated effect, the cheapie Gabriella Sabatini scent has a similar jasmine but softer, in a blend that has that “golden” scent to it, and no minty sharpness.
Alien isn’t a dirty jasmine imo btw, none of that decaying feel to it. It would be very nice and seductive, to my nose, were it not for the overpowering minty air.
I’m sure it’s the right scent for some, I just personally never “got it”.
Btw, hubs liked it a lot!

For all my many fragrances I can name another perfume that smells similar to each, all except Alien. Nothing else smells like Thierry Mugler Alien. There are many jasmine scents on the market, but none other than Alien morphed jasmine into a beautifully odd ice princess. It’s such an odd fragrance but I really love it. Although unique and very distinct in scent, it has become quite popular in recent years so you will recognize it on others while you’re out. It’s menthol, it’s jasmine, it’s strong, it’s longlasting, and it gets compliments. Alien’s a beast. This makes for a fabulous signature scent.
Try before you buy.

I only tried a sample. Did not expect this to be ‘my fragrance’. But boy I was wrong. It smells heavenly (or divine, not sure about the right word to use here). It stays on forever. Will definitely purchase for winter – for summer it may be too heavy.
