I wanted to try this when I found out it’s the HG foundation of the stunningly beautiful Korean YouTuber who calls herself Pony. Her skin is completely flawless without looking like plastic. This was not easy to get my hands on – I had it shipped from Asia and it took several weeks to arrive. So was it worth the wait? Hmmm. I have been using it for a month + here’s the scoop:
– Background: I have pale, roseacean, super-sensitive/reactive, acne-prone, very dry, aging skin with hard-to-cover undereye circles.
– Shade: I am about an N10 this time of year (dead of winter); my skin leans slightly warm but is ruddy due to rosacea so I stick with neutral shades. I got Neutral 1 in this and it is very pale – it’s actually slightly too pale for me but I’m making it work.
– Application method: The product itself is quite thin + very pigmented so a little goes a long way. I tried for several weeks to work with the included applicator sponge but it caused the product to pool in my pores + highlight every flake on my bone-dry winter skin. It looked truly awful + there was no way to fix it without completely removing it. Then I tried several different smoothing/blurring primers before applying this while still using the included applicator – that didn’t solve the issue. Now I just use fingers, and that works pretty well but is imprecise. It solved the pore-pooling issue + flake highlighting, but doesn’t give me that even, flawless, polished perfection I was looking for. It just doesn’t lay down enough product.
– Finish: This is not dewy or matte, it’s just satin, skin-like perfection. I love that it sets well without powder and doesn’t transfer (except when I blow my nose).
– Misc.: This does contain sunscreen but I haven’t been able to tell if it causes flashback in flash photography. It’s unscented + does not cause breakout or rosacea flaring (yay!). I remove this with no issues using an oil-based cream cleanser + muslin washcloth.
I am undecided on whether I will repurchase (we need a “Maybe” option for that question above). I prefer liquid foundations but I’ve heard the liquid version of this product is notorious for pooling in pores (just like this format). This is expensive (though after the initial investment of the case, you only need to buy the less-expensive refill cartridges) + hard to find so I’ll keep searching for something better while using the rest.
