i got this foundation for $23 during ulta’s fall sale and i have to say i love it.
my 2019 resolution is to stop buying foundation and finish my collection, as well as trying to go foundation free. (i can already but im just trying to use up my stock to justify my wasted $).
back to this,
i wear shade light neutral and it fits me perfectly, im told im a light golden undertone and to buy neutral if unavailable. idk.
the times ive worn this, im told my skin looks smooth, i never seem to get that compliment with other complexion products.
this seems to be a high medium coverage product and ot blends out very well and even
i checked that i would buy it again bc it is a really great formula and is def worth to try out

As someone with dry skin, I’m always on the lookout for a hydrating foundation since foundation has the tendency of looking cakey and settling in my facial lines. The foundation wears well on my face and seems to at least retain the moisture in my face, which is definitely rare amongst all of the top-rated foundations I’ve tried in the Sephora-Ulta sphere. This foundation seems to have the same formulation as the Gel Hybrid foundation in the Double Duty line that they used to have at Ulta, but with different packaging, so if you liked the Gel Hybrid one then you should get this. I prefer this new packaging (big doe foot applicator) over the Gel Hybrid’s jar packaging, but the bottle is still pretty heavy, which is minorly annoying for travel but not a deal breaker. However, I’ve always had issues finding a shade match in Tarte’s line (I seem to be in between shades and undertones with Tarte), so I’m only going to repurchase this if I can’t find another foundation that’s hydrating but matches my skin tone better.

I picked this up on sale at Ulta because my usual foundation (Sephora 10 hour wear foundation, for reference) was running low and I didn’t want to drive an hour to my nearest Sephora. I brought my actual foundation to the store with me to compare and get the closest shade match (In my Sephora foundation I wear shad 05 light porcelain) and of the options available the closest that I came was shade 8B porcelain beige- it was just a touch too light though, and while it says that it is for skin with pink undertones it really gave me a weird yellow cast on my skin once it dried down. I have to either go heavier handed on my blush and bronzer or drop a touch of red mixer into the foundation on the back of my hand to make it look good on me.
The coverage is medium which is what I prefer (I tend to apply my Sephora one lightly as it is a little more full coverage than I like on a day to day basis) but they take the idea of hydrating way too far and it N E V E R dries down on your skin. I have somewhat combination skin so I normally use a good mattefying primer and a touch of powder to prep my T-zone before foundation and then I ude a hydrating primer on the outside of my face. Usually that combination makes any foundation apply well on my skin and stay through the day, it never fails me. With this however, my face looked completely greasy after I blended it in- even on the parts of my skin that would normally be dry I looked like a total oil slick! I decided to just set the whole thing lightly with my Tarte smooth operator powder (which I HIGHLY reccomend, it is perfection in a powder. I gave away my Laura Mercier because I was using this one more!). This is my go to powder, I use it almost daily to dust over my face and set things in place, and much like my priming routine this powder never lets me down- but this garbage foundation was not willing to be tamed. Within an hour my smile lines and around my eyes and nose were all creasing visibly, and by the time lunch rolled around I had to COMPLETELY re-powder my face just to make myself look somewhat normal again. By the end of the day my entire face looked patchy and creasy, my skin texture looked horrible, and I was blindingly shiny from my hairline all the way to my jaw- it was not a “fresh, hydrated” look, it was a “I hate myself so I put my face in a deep fryer” look.
My final complaint about this product is the applicator- I absolutely hate a doe foot applicator on a foundation. It just feels unsanitary to me to be rubbing the applicator all over your face and then sticking it (and the bacteria it has picked up) back into the jar full of product. That seems like a breakout waiting to happen.
All in all I don’t think that this foundation was a good fit for me or my skin AT ALL, although I think that if you are a person with particularly dry skin all over the face and with very little texture on your skin it *might* be an okay product to try. I would certainly recommend my Sephora foundation over this one any day, and after using this for almost a week and really trying my best to make it work out I do think that I will be giving this foundation to a friend and just going back to one that I know works.

I too, got this for a low price at Ulta, I thought why not i will give it a shot. I put this up against Born this way and this easily won for me. First off I got a perfect match with Light Sand for my NC 20 skin tone. I have a real hard time finding foundations that are fair/light that aren’t pink and also hydrating. The finish is luminous and dries down but still manages to seem hydrating. Pretty amazing! I haven’t had any transfer issues on my normal oily t zone skin. Of course they will probably get rid of it now that I found it.

You guys I finally found my new go-to foundation! I have been looking for sooo long. The Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating Foundation is amazingggg ♥
So for starters, I have dry sensitive skin. I’ve tried like, a thousand foundations y’all. Every single foundation that I’ve tried was either too matte and drying or the coverage was non-existent. I’ve tried several of foundations that are supposedly for “all skin types” but they were super drying. Tarte was not lying when they named this foundation the hydrating foundation and I am so thankful they weren’t lying. It’s so hard to find an actual foundation that’s hydrating for my dry skin. It was very comfortable to wear and wasn’t drying whatsoever. So for dry skin gals I give this foundation a 10/10. For combo skin this should work for you.. and to be honest I think this would work well with oily skin gals too. It’s not a very oily foundation but somehow it’s still very hydrating and moisturizing.
As for coverage…….it is BOMB. This could easily be a full coverage foundation, hands down. However, I don’t really like a full coverage. I like more of a medium to an almost full coverage. Like a natural flawless finish… kind of like that “my skin but way more amazingly flawless” coverage.
Now onto my second favorite part of this foundation, the FINISH. Y’all…. this finish is so freaking beautiful. Like, when I finished blending the foundation into my skin, I had to stop and take a look at myself. It left such a smooth beautiful even finish on my skin. It literally looked like my skin but even more amazing. The finish is very natural and glowy. It’s not like a wet kind of dewy finish. It’s more of a calmer dewy finish. For example, it’s not MAC Face & Body dewy.. like the wet kind of glow. It’s just the perfect glow. I will definitely post some pictures so you guys can see the finish!
As for staying power, It lasted all day. The only time I touched up was to apply a little bit more concealer under my eyes.
This foundation comes with a doe-foot applicator just like the Shape Tape concealer but just a tiny bit bigger. The applicator makes it super easy to apply. The foundation has a smell but it’s nothing that will blow you out of the water. It kind of has a pinch of a rosy scent to it. The packaging is pretty cute also. It comes in a frosted glass.
The foundation is originally $39 but Ulta had it on sale for $23! I just love a deal ♥♥ You get the standard 30mL | 1.01 FL. Oz. amount.
I got this foundation in the shade Tan-Deep Sand. I have super golden skin and it’s always hard for me to find a foundation that is yellow enough for my skin. This shade has no pink or neutral tones whatsoever and I’m so glad. If you have a very golden or yellow skin tone like me, make sure to try a shade that has “sand” in the name. Tarte also has a chart on their website where you could find your shade also 🙂 I am an NC42-NC44 in MAC. A very good shade comparison for this shade is the shade Sable 21 in the Bareminerals BarePro foundation. Another pretty good comparison is the Becca Cosmetics Ultimate Coverage foundation in the shade Bamboo.
So, overall here are the pros and cons:
Pros: Beautiful coverage and finish. Wasn’t heavy on my skin. Great for dry skin, it’s very hydrating. Blended out easily for me (I used my pink beauty blender for blending). Only paid $23 for it at Ulta. No bad smell. Looks beautiful ♥
Cons: It transferred 🙁 I didn’t set with a powder because I have dry skin, however, I set it with my Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow and then later on freshened it up with MAC Fix + and it still didn’t completely set. The transferring wasn’t terrible though, I can deal with it.
Will I buy it again? Definitely! ♥
I will post pictures with this review as well.

I am actually surprised at the negative reviews here for this Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating foundation, coz I really really love this foundation! I am light with yellow undertones and I matched with Light Sand with my NC20 shade. This feels light on my skin, not drying and rather easy to blend for me. I use either my sponge or my clean fingers to apply this and it makes my skin look healthy and fresh. I would say it is medium coverage, some redness and spots I have cannot be completely covered by this foundation, but I am cool with that. It does feel light on the skin, not tacky at all. I love this, I already bought a back up! 🙂

I got a couple samples and the colors were both too light…I found it thick, and it looked unflattering on my skin, like it didn’t look skin like, more like mask like !? I like a natural look for my foundation, and this isn’t it…I don’t know what they were thinking but the foundation just lies on the surface of my skin..was definitely not impressed with it..this is a brand I have a tough time liking really..

I wanted to like this product, but unfortunately I don’t really feel anything for it. It’s okay, but it didn’t really “wow” me or anything.
I’d say this is a medium coverage foundation; I usually prefer fuller coverage, so I tried building this up, and while the foundation IS definitely buildable to full coverage, I have to say that it does feel quite heavy on your skin if you do that (which is kind of disappointing to me because there are plenty of full coverage foundations out there that feel much more lightweight). So I would only really recommend this product to people who prefer primarily medium coverage to begin with.
As someone with extremely dry skin, I do appreciate the decent level of hydration that this product gives, but I have to give a warning that this product tends to slip and transfer, even after being set with powder and heavy-duty setting spray. I accidentally lightly touched my face at one point while wearing this, and ended up with a finger-shaped blotch on my face that I had to fix, as well as a foundation smear on my finger. I can usually get away with this kind of thing happening with other foundations that don’t really transfer, but I’d say you have to be really careful not to accidentally touch your face at all while wearing this one.
I also tried mixing this together with just a small dash of another hydrating foundation (the Sephora Brightening & Hydrating foundation, which I do use on an everyday basis and haven’t had any problems with) and I thought that I would at least get an okay result being that both of them mainly have a hydrating function, but the result was quite horrible – the foundation completely broke apart on my face. If you want to try pairing this together with another foundation by mixing them together, I’d highly recommend you trial it first just in case anything like this happens.
There are much better hydrating foundations available on the market (and for a cheaper price point, too!), so I won’t be repurchasing.

I believe this is one of the worst foundations I’ve ever tried, I was dying to try this as I love the shape tape concealer, but this.. don’t waste your money! it oxidises at least 1-2 shades and it wears off in like half an hour to an hour! Sorry Tarte but this is very poor and not the quality that you usually sell.. I’ve used better drug store foundations for a fraction of the price!! Returned the next day to Ulta for a refund..

I couldn’t wait to try the New “shape tape hydrating foundation” since I LOVE ❤️ the coverage of the Shape Tape Concealer but I was very disappointed plus it is the most expensive foundation that I have ever purchased.
A Tarte Rep in Ulta applied and matched (light-med beige) it to my skin. By the time I got home to see it in my own lighting it was splotchy and uneven & didn’t look good at all. I thought maybe I just needed to exfoliate (so I did) and then try applying it with a sponge.
I tried it for 4 days and whether I used a sponge or a brush or my fingers I couldn’t get it to lay right on my mid sixty, combo to dryer skin so today I returned it to Ulta.
There is also a Matte formula of this foundation that I have Not tried but it didn’t sound right for my skin.
