The brand Obsession is an offshoot of Revolution; in the UK Revolution is exclusive to one store (Superdrug), so they started the Obsession brand as an exclusive to another store (Boots). The brand has started selling in international stores [I know it’s Target in the US, not sure about other countries], so I thought that this would be the perfect time to look harder at some of their products…
The x Belle Jorden eyeshadow palette is a collaboration between the brand and British-born-residing-in-Canada professional MUA turned YouTuber Belle Jorden [I’d never heard of her before picking this palette up, so having her name on it has no influence on my thoughts], and it contains 16 shades: Starlight (white matte), Glow Baby (champagne shimmer), Pops (light warm brown matte), Bear (copper shimmer), Sagittarius (orange matte), Sassy (bronze shimmer), Hot Sauce (brick red matte), Queen (Burgundy matte-with-microglitter), 1706 (mauve matte), Mama’s Girl (fawn matte-with-microglitter), Magic (candy pink shimmer), So Cute (medium pink matte), Miami (lilac-with-blue-shift metallic), 13 (deep wine matte), A.F. (gold shimmer-with-microglitter) and Lola (black matte).
Not only do I prefer the look/feel of the heavy card and easy-to-depot palettes from Obsession over the plastic ones from Revolution, but I think that the shadow formulas for this Obsession palette feel, apply and wear a bit more nicely compared to the palettes that I have from Revolution too – I enjoy most of my Revolution collaboration palettes, but the Obsession ones just feel a tiny bit more substantial – the formulas are a tad bit thicker, the mattes are less powdery and the shimmers are creamier.
haven’t been able to single out a single shade for under-performing in terms of quality – they all deliver the goods. As I mentioned above; the way the palette is designed with a tab in the side of each individual pan, makes it extremely easy to depot several shades and pop them into a small magnetic palette, so you can pack lightly when travelling with your makeup and/or going out straight from work and need a touch-up – plus I think that the card just looks and feels nicer in comparison to Revolution’s plastic ones.
The shade selections for the Belle Jorden palette aren’t anything unique, but the outstanding quality of both the shadows and the actual palette coming in at such an affordable price-point, make this a brilliant buy. Obsession not sold in your country? You can also buy the palette from the Revolution Beauty site [they ship worldwide].
