I really wanted to like this multipurpose product. It can be so hard to find a contour shade that’s not too warm and I’m NC20-25. This would work well as a really natural contour but it’s too light to work as a more dramatic contour on me. If I build it up it starts too look ashy. The texture is extremely creamy. As soon as you touch it it starts to melt in the pot so as an eye shadow base it makes anything you layer on top of it blend super well but it doesn’t have the tackiness necessary to keep the eyeshadow from sliding around. It’s a beautiful base color though. So all in all its a nice cream eyeshadow but still requires a primer and setting but I’m disappointed in the multipurpose aspect.

This is one of those products that you have to actually try it before making any judgement. This, in my opinion is the best contour product I’ve tried. In many reviews or blogs about contouring there is always that one person saying that a particular contouring color is too brown based or orange based. I never understood that and like usual always contoured with tan/brown creme colors. Then I was in Sephora and seen that OCC had John Doe as a contour color. I don’t go by what is advertised in Sephora, I choose what I want and how I want to use it. I picked it up anyway out of curiosity. I have to say that this is the most natural but true contouring shade I have ever used. No matter how much I’ve blended and what I used either powder or cream based contour products there was just always something that I didn’t like about it until I chose this product. I still can’t get over how I love this. Please give it a try! For reference I am NC35.

OCC describes the color of John Doe as “Pale, ash-toned taupe,” and that’s an accurate description. On NW15 me, John Doe is the pretty much perfect cool-toned “my-lids-but-better” wash shade. OCC bills the Crème Colour Concentrates as “multi-use” products, but I placed John Doe in the Eye Shadow category because it works so beautifully for that purpose, at least for me.
OCC claims that “Crème Colour Concentrate goes on smoothly and wears like a dream,” and I’ve found that to be true, even on my absurdly oily skin. I use a MAC 249 brush to apply a layer of John Doe to clean up lids, swipe on my pressed powder eyeliner (Trish McEvoy), top the whole with a light dusting of translucent rice powder, and I have a polished natural look that holds up beautifully for hours. By the very end of the day, my lids do begin to feel a bit “sticky” to the touch, but there’s no creasing, smudging, or fading, so I’m very pleased.
OCC is cruelty-free, which is important to me, and I can handle the $20 price tag for this product. My only complaint is that John Doe is often sold out; I had to get this one on EBay. John Doe looks like “staple” material for me, and I’d love to try other shades, such as Trick and Miriam, IF they’re ever not sold out. 🙁
