I got this cool-toned burgundy-brown eyeshadow because it looked so rich and beautiful in the pan, and while it looks just as beautiful on, it was quickly forgotten and stashed together with all the other neutral eyeshadows. Fast-forward to a few days ago when in my hurry to get ready for work and hide the evidence of oversleeping, I reached for Stila Kitten and Barefoot Contessa. While Kitten looked its usual goldeny goegeousness, Barefoot Contessa transformed into a lighter coppery-purple color that blended smoothly with Kitten. It is slightly shimmery, but not overwhelmingly so and still manages to work with my cool toned skin. I think I’ve found my daily look for a while!

To my eye and on my skin, this is a rosey dark brown with shimmer and hints of gold. Like most Stila shadows, this is quite smooth and easy to blend. I actually don’t think this color is very unique, though, which is why I rate it just average – to me this is just one of many brown shades that I already have, although the rosiness of it allows me to use it with either warm or cool shades. If you are a fan of brown shadows, this is a worthwhile one to add to the collection, but if you are like me and have a ton of shimmery browns and neutrals, you may also find that you already have shades that are similar.

I got this in the Gift of Glamour set, which was an absolute bargain online. I have to say it is pretty amazing. I would never have chosen it because of its reddish undertones, but it has surprised me beyond belief. By itself, it is brown with a maroon/purple edge, and is, I think, far too much as a lid colour, at least for someone fair like me. Instead, I use Kitten on my entire lid, and then apply some Barefoot Contessa to the outer corner. Then I blend really well, so that I’m left with a beautiful shimmery light bronze shade that’s given extra dimension in the outer corners. I think Barefoot Contessa and Kitten are made for each other – they just blend together so well. I have also used Barefoot Contessa to line my lower lashes, and, blended in, it looks pretty good there too. The packaging, a little aluminium pot with a clear lid, is lovely too, and you get loads of product. I would definitely repurchase, and this time I wouldn’t even mind paying full price for it!
