I have been searching for that perfect metallic red shade for a long time and I finally found it! I have never had a red eyeshadow quite like this one. I did not expect to find it in the loose eyeshadow form, but now that I have tried it I find it less intimidating. Asylum was my first use of a loose eyeshadow and admittedly it was a tad messy the first time I used it because I had no experience with it. The best part of it being a loose eyeshadow is that the color payoff is stunning without needing a finger or setting spray to apply the product. I do think having a primer or base to stick it on does make application a little less messy and does improve the longevity of the shadow. In loose shadow form, a little product also goes a long way so the product will last you a long time. I do advise using it near a sink for easy clean up just in case accidents do happen. The shadow holds up well on the eyes and does not fade or flake. A single container was $14 so it is not cheap, but this color is so unique I am more than happy to pay that price.

I love this shade! It was very hard to find such a lovely red that was still vegan. A little goes a VERY long way, so definitely build it up slowly. It stays where I put it, and looks great on. Love it! A+++++

I bought this after already buying Love+ and Kiss Kiss (part of the Feline Fancy palette). Asylum is a warm orangey red with a metallic finish. It is quite different to Love+ (being metallic and not such a true red) but is quite similar to Kiss Kiss. The difference is in the undertone – Asylum is more orangey than Kiss Kiss and is closer to the colour of blood. That sounds a little gross but it’s actually a very nice colour, and I think more approachable for people that are new to wearing red on their eyes.
Sugarpill’s loose shadows are smooth, pigmented, stay fast to the eyelid, don’t crease or stain, and a little goes a long way. But I wish that Asylum was available in a pressed formula, as I find loose shadows a little difficult to work with: I still don’t have the knack of applying loose shadows without shadow dropping down onto my cheeks. There is no fallout once the shadow is on the eyelid, but during application it can get messy. If you’re new to using loose shadows, my recommendation is to get the tiniest amount of shadow on your brush (this product is very pigmented) and apply it by pressing the brush against your skin. But even then, I’d also recommend doing your eyes before you do your base makeup.
I have not experienced any irritation using this shadow, although I do not have sensitive skin. This shadow is vegan, which is unusual for a red as they usually contain carmine, so thumbs up for that!
Overall this is a beautiful colour and formula with a bit of a learning curve. I’m glad to have it in my collection because it’s such a unique shade.

I own a few chromalust pigments by Sugarpill and this is one is a very special one. It is not easy to find bright red coloured pigments in the market. This one is a metallic, slightly shimmery apple red color. I find that when I wear it, the color changes a little bit over the hours to a more pinky version but that’s the only “downside” that I have to mention. The price is right, the packaging is cute, you get a good amount for what you pay, the customer service is good and it’s an uncommon color, very fun and perfect for the fall and holidays.
I do recommend it!

OMG this is such a great color! It’s like warm fresh blood in powder form ( sorry if that sounds disgusting). Great as a lip color.

So I am eternally on a hunt for the perfect red eyeshadow. I have tried everything I can get my hands on and I ordered Love+ and Asylum to see how the Sugarpill brand ones held up.
Honestly I was a little surprised….On the website it look RED RED when I got the jar it looks almost rusty red in the jar which upset me but then I put in on using Nars Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Primer (My favorite for with loose shadows it is amazing I bought 3 of them)….and the color POPPED. It became this vibrant very sparkly red. There was minor fallout (and when you use a primer and tap off excess product that usually is the case)….but it looked SO much better on than in the jar.
A weird tip for all of you out there though….I found sugarpill loose eyeshadows and mac pigments too that when they settle if you give the bottle a few good shakes (with the cap on of course) that it seperates some of the pigment that matted down in the bottle so when you pick color up with your brush or are transferring some to a sample jar to use that u get less dense of an amount of product so you end up wasting less even though it looks exactly the same on your face 🙂
