   came to makeup alley to look at reviews for the fragrance free shampoo and was curious about the reviews for the conditioner since i use and love it, and am kind of shocked at the low rating – maybe they’ve changed the product in recent years, but either way, i felt like i had to throw in my two cents for others who have hair like me and are searching for the right conditioner.

   i actually LOVE this conditioner and think it works better than anything – including much more expensive professional lines – that i’ve tried in years! i’m on my third tube already and i find it amazing, and surprising, coming from a brand that doesn’t specialize in hair products. i also LOVE that it gets a great EWG rating for safe ingredients and i don’t have to worry at all about what i’m being exposed to every time i use this.

   so my hair is wavy/curly (probably 2bish?), and though it used to be very full, the past few years it has been thinning, both in number as well as density of each strand. i believe my strands are miniaturizing and in the process the texture has gone from silky and substantial to light and cottony and frizzy, so it’s been a real challenge to manage. the products i used to use just don’t work anymore to keep my frizz away or they overwhelm and look silly on my thinning hair. because i want as much volume as possible at the root, i never use conditioner on my roots nowadays, but for the rest of my frizzy fly-away curls, to date, this conditioner does the BEST job of smoothing them out and making them soft and shiny (ie silky vs cottony) – you can feel the strands transform as soon as you put this in your hair, and it does a fantastic job of detangling as well. for anyone out there with similar hair, i’d def recommend giving this one a shot! at under $7 for 8 oz online, it’s pretty reasonably priced too.

   i try my best to avoid fragrance (and any other ingredients that could potentially cause irritation or increased thinning) on my scalp, but i like the body of my hair to smell good, and since my conditioner doesn’t generally come in contact with my scalp, i do wish this had a nice fragrance. but my solution is to just mix it with another conditioner that smells good. (unfortunately, though their raspberry conditioner has similar ingredients, it just did not work as well for whatever reason – and I don’t love that fragrance either.) i don’t love having to mix it with something else every time i use it, but i’d definitely rather my hair look good than smell fragrant, so i will keep buying this again and again. please dessert essence, don’t change anything about this conditioner (except maybe create a fragranced version)!

   If you need a fragrance-free conditioner, this will suffice. Just be warned, this is a rather old-school conditioner — if you want one that’s modern in its formulation to be light and airy, forget it. I use this only because it’s fragrance-free and detangles, but if you don’t wash your hair every day (I don’t anymore), your head will be a grease pit. The key is to use a teeny tiny amount, i.e. dime-size and don’t put it near your roots or they’ll be weighed down terribly. On the up side, it really is fragrance-free, and that’s very hard to find.

   Alternative Use:
   I use in place of a styling cream (before flat ironing) because my facial skin is very sensitive to fragrance. This hasn’t caused any breakouts. I am so grateful that this truly is fragrance-free without any masking fragrance. It has a slight smell that I would describe as “earthy.” A few minutes after applying it I can no longer smell it. Because of the smell I’ve detracted a lippie. Although it isn’t a big deal.

   UPDATE:
   I now use this as a conditioner and it my HG. It is a “medium/deep” conditioner and my hair is super silky and shiny after using it! I will repurchase to use as a conditioner. BTW-I have switched to 365 brand fragrance-free conditioner as a styling cream instead because it is lighter.

   This is my holy grail, life changing and only conditioner in my shower, and has been for a few years now. Any hair products with fragrance make my scalp and hairline itch, and out of the handful of products left to chose from, I can afford and easily find this product. Besides, I really like the minimalist tube. A tube lasts me 2-3 months because my hair is fine and I use just a tiny dab each time, the less I use and the longer I leave it in seems to have the best result.

   I found this conditioner to work better than expected. I like the natural ingredients and the gloss and moisture it provides w/out weighing down my hair. I don’t know if the ingredients have changed over time, as I saw on some websites that the ingredients were slighly different; the one I have does not contain honeysuckle extract, while on some websites it is listed’ while shea butter is listed on the tube I bought, but on certain websites, the shea butter is not listed. Anyway, there is not much scent except a faint oatmeal scent , nothing unpleasant, just very neutral. I put a small about three quarter sized amounts throughout my hair and combed through left is for a while then rinsed. My hair felt pretty good and healthy and had body; I also found this conditioner made my curls more bouncy and springy too while moisturizing at the same time–I did not experience this with the DE Coconut conditioner, although I like that one too, it does weigh down the hair a little, not too much. All in all, I like this fragrance free conditioner and it makes my hair healthy. The only qualm I have is the packaging-half way down, you have to push hard to get the product out. For the price and quality for a drugstore conditioner, this in my experience is a cut above, Garnier, L’oreal, Pantene, Aussi, Tresseme, Herbal Essences, Organix, etc.because it contains the ingredients that work very well with my hair like panthenol, shea butter, olive oil, jojoba oil and kelp extract to name a few.

   This stuff sucks. Both the shampoo and the conditioner which I have reviewed as well. I have never used so horrible products on my hair. I’m not sure if this conditioner sucked as much as the shampoo but it certainly could not add a quarter of the moisture back into my hair that the shampoo violently took from it. I have been through an uncountable amount of shampoos and conditioners because I am a total junkie and this takes combo takes the prize for the worst ones I have ever tried out of both natural and chemical brands. Do not buy this stuff if you respect your hair at all. Its horrible.

   It compensates for the dryness left by Desert Essence fragrance free shampoo (this conditioner is superior to the corresponding shampoo). I leave this to sit in my hair while I wash the rest of me or shave, and then rinse. And it doesn’t irritate my skin or scalp, so that’s another bonus.

   Background: I have very sensitive, very dry skin, and with normal conditioner my chest gets itchy from the rinse water, my neck gets eczema, and my scalp gets little irritated bumps. This alleviates all of those symptoms when used in conjunction with fragrance free body wash and shampoo.

   This conditioner is so moisturizng and thick. It really does add moisture to your hair and leaves it smooth. Added bonus- it’s natural and smells nice

   My hair and scalp are slightly dry. This creamy white conditioner is free of fragrance, parabens, and silicones. It works great for light conditioning and for co-washing. It no longer seems suitable for my hair, however.

    Decent basic conditioner, one of the better ones available if you’re looking for minimalist unscented products for skin sensitivity reasons. Fragrance-free, silicone-free, same pH as skin, and based on standard coconut oil derivatives plus jojoba oil, hydrolysed soy protein, panthenol, and nettle and burdock extracts.

    Satisfies my admitedly basic requirements: hair should be detangled and smooth, not dry and frizzy; hair should neither dry out nor grease up at lightening speed; it should have some bounce, and not be limp or weighed down; surrounding skin (especially neck, back, face) shouldn’t be irritated. And the stuff should either have a scent that I like and that doesn’t make me sneeze, or no scent at all. Don’t like the scent/lack? Add essential oils, shake to mix, shake again before each use.

    Slightly gel-like cream, easy to dispense and apply and rinse out. I’m currently using it both as a conditioner and as a pre-wash, doing the condition-wash-condition method. I’ve also mixed in a couple of drops of DIY hair oil: a mix, in varying proportions, of argan, avocado, jojoba, and/or olive oils (current mix on notepad).

    Hair here: long (bra-strap length), fine, dense/thick, slightly wavy, normal to dry, untreated (not dyed, textured, etc.; left to air-dry, no other products used). Scalp can be sensitive, as can the rest of my skin, so I tend to favour unscented or minimally-scented products. I spent some quality time testing out unscented conditioners recently, as my eczema returned in patches: major ones on my neck.

    Other unscented conditioners that worked plus a couple that worked in the past but not used in a while, as not in shops where I am and they’d cost quite a lot when you add in shipping: [the old] Avalon Organics Grapeseed & Olive (great), John Masters Organics Bare (ditto), Curelle RICHE (great), Curelle TRÈSLITE (decent), Urtekram (nice), Desert Essence (OK), NatureClean (ditto); less good on my hair: Jason, Whole Foods 365, Free & Clear/Cliniderm, Elave (and a few others back in the UK).

    Cheap: around CAD 5.00-7.00 for a 350 ml bottle. Good packaging: white translucent plastic with flip-top cap, lovely label. Cruelty-free, recyclable, and free of various things.

    This conditioner works well if you don’t really have dry or damaged hair to begin with. It chock full of herbs that is good for your scalp and hair and is great if you are looking for a basic conditioner. I had to use a lot to get through my hair, but then I realized that its not really necessary.
    A good conditioner for those with normal to semi-dry hair or with sensitivities.

    I bought this and the matching shampoo because I wanted a shampoo and conditioner with NO fragrance at all. And they do deliver on that. They literally leave no fragrance on your hair. But as a conditioner I thought this was only so-so. It was not nearly moisturizing enough for my dry hair and my hair was still dry/tangly after using it. If your hair is on the drier side, you might want to try Jason’s Fragrance-Free conditioner, which is a bit more moisturizing (and also has no fragrance at all).

    I think this conditioner works really well with the shampoo. Together it really leaves your hair healthy and balanced. I’ve never tried using the conditioner without the matching shampoo, but using both yields really good results with your hair. It’s worth the extra money for those who are looking for something that has no fragrance (which alone is hard to find anyway).

    I did not have a good experience with this conditioner,it caused a waxy buildup on my hair,and my ends became very dry and brittle with absolutely no shine at all,the cetyl alchohol smell was really overwhelming as well.

    well, i actually like this, much to my surprise! Lately I have shifted toward more moisturizing products because even though my hair is fine, it is badly damaged from too much color processing. I love DevaCare and generally try to stick to no sulfates/silicones. I feared that like many natural conditioners, this wouldn’t provide enough moisture., but it actually leaves my hair very hydrated, even though it rinses clean. It’s great for someone like me who needs moisture without weight. I love that it’s fragrance free, too. The matching shampoo to me seems identical in formula and effect as Jessicurl’s gentle lather shampoo. I do need to use a lot of the conditioner, but my hair is very long.

    UPDATE: Well, they lost their defender. I liked this product and have used it and the matching shampoo for several years. I had even found the right combination (a bit of coconut oil and a few drops of NOW almond oil) to wear my hair down sometimes, and I’ve been getting compliments on it. So I was quite upset when I went to the store to stock up and found that they’ve totally changed the ingredients, adding some that I’m highly sensitive to. I can understand frequently updating normal shampoos, but fragrance free versions are often bought by highly allergic people who often look for years before they find something that finally works for them, and changing the formula is more likely than not just going to lose these devotees. Well, back to wasting money, looking terrible, and wearing my hair up all the time.

    ORIGINAL REVIEW:It’s funny how everyone’s hair is different. I hated the DE lemon conditioner, but I love the fragrance free one. First let me agree with dragonballz that the packaging stinks: the little tab that initially seals the opening is hard to remove, and it annoys me that a company that is environmentally responsible in other ways is using non-recyclable plastic packaging. However, I keep buying this conditioner because it is so wonderful for my hair. Used in conjunction with the fragrance free shampoo, it makes my curly, frizzy, thick but light-weight hair look better than it has since Terax changed its formula years ago. I have to use a lot of it, so it ends up not being cheap, but then again my hair is thick and down to the small of my back when wet, so most would probably use much less. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I found this conditioner- I am happily wearing my hair down for the first time in years! *UPDATE* I raised the rating on the packaging of this conditioner because they improved the material that seals the opening before you first use it. Also, although there was a frustrating period during which they seemed to change the formula for the worse, they have apparently changed it back, and my hair is happy again!
