I heard about this product from my friend who was using this product (LM Purifying Oil – Light) for about 2 months and she gave me a sample to try. Even though I liked the idea of purifying oil for moisture, this product did nothing good to my skin. My skin actually became irritated (I have sensitive skin and flaky, I also got couple of breakouts on my cheeks and chin).
Only then I started to realize that it’s Mineral Oil that does bad for my skin. This product’s main ingredient is MINERAL OIL = Petroleum.
I actually have been using Ponds Cold Cream in the past (it also contains Mineral Oil but the reaction was not that bad).
Just to clarify, most often, mineral oil is a liquid by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum-based products from crude oil. A mineral oil in this sense is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes and cyclic paraffin, related to petroleum jelly (also known as “white petrolatum”).

After using this product for four weeks, morning and night, I developed angry, red, scaly patches on my left cheek and above my lip. After a little investigation, I found out that Purifying Oil Light contains mineral oil, a petrochemical product that’s a byproduct of crude oil.
This stuff doesn’t moisturize your skin; it just creates a film of oil over your face, restricting moisture loss. More importantly, this film of oil exacerbates acne and prevents your skin from releasing toxins through pores.
Mineral oil has also been linked to cancer, and is a VERY CHEAP material. I want to kick myself for paying $40 for a product that likely cost Laura Mercier 40 cents to make!

I’ve only been using this product for 2 weeks. I really wanted it to work wonders for my skin. Prior to using this, my skin has been very very very oily, but pimple/acne-free. Then I started using this cleanser. I loved it, because it made my face less oily throughout the day. However— within 3 days of using it, i got like tiny hard pimples on my forehead and my cheeks. It’s been 2 weeks.. I hear the skin cycle takes like a month.. soooo… i’ll update this review in another 2 weeks 🙂
FINAL UPDATE
…so i tried this product out for 4 weeks, cuz i really wanted to give it a chance. but… it just kept making my skin worse. like really bad! and i couldn’t stand it anymore. i literally went from clear skin prior to using this to having 13 pimples (small and huge!) at week 4. i hate it! as soon as i started using my old face wash again (cetaphil), my skin started clearing up.
i hate this product! although it’s the best make-up remover i’ve ever tried, i prefer to get my $40 back, thanks 😛

Love, love this cleanser. Leaves my skin soft, dewy, makeup free, clean and nonirritated. It really does clear out your pores and leave skin soft at the same time. It is fairly expensive for a cleanser, but I can tell it will last a long time, as I have been using for several months and have hardly dipped into the top of the bottle. It is also packaged nicely with the pump and nonbreakable plastic bottle. Also, no fragrance is so nice! Will definitely repurchase.

Love this product, you can wipe in on your eyes to remove makeup without it irratting your eyes, makes your skin feel amazing, i also have dry skin, so i dont know how well it would work for oily skin.

I was a little sceptical to use oil as a cleanser. I am very sensitive, oily, and acne prone but gave this a try. I LOVE THIS PRODUCT, never thought this would actually improve my skin but is has am on month 8 with this product and totally hooked. It does contain mineral oil but from what i read it is non comedogenic/acnegenic oil it has been refined so very safe for all skin types.

At first when I massaged the oil into my face, I thought it was doing a pretty good job. Then my eyes started to blur, and then sting. I thought, no big deal. Then I washed it off- and it was still there. So I rinsed rigorously again, and my face was still oily like a grease pan. So I used my foam cleanser, then wiped face with Clinique’s #3 toner. STILL THERE. It was driving me crazy. So the next time I started to wash my face after the oil with Dial antibacterial soap. Finally the oil washed off! I’d just rather stick with Shu Uemura’s cleansing oil. By the way, I also heard this one contains mineral oil. No wonder it wouldn’t wash off. It clogged my pores as well!

I use this mainly as a make-up remover. It gets every last bit of foundation and mascara off- you can watch it melt away. It can be a little messy to use, but one or two pumps is usually plenty for me. I use it on dry skin, massage for a bit, then emulsify with warm water and rinse. If I’m visiting an area that has really hard water it seems to not rinse off as thoroughly. I follow with my usual cleanser and clarisonic.
As with other oil-based make-up removers I’ve used, this product can blur my vision if it gets in my eyes, but it’s not a huge deal. I’ve also used Bosia’s Make-up Break-up oil, and I’d say they work equally well.

I am desperate to love this product, but this made my skin itchy and irritated and I’ve got burning red bumps all over my face if I use it as a cleanser.
It’s a good makeup remover though, even for the most stubborn eye makeup.
When you apply a little water w/ it, it becomes milky, and easier to use on my face, but because of the irritations, I stopped using this unless my Kanebo cleansing gel is unable to remove stubborn eye makeup.
Very expensive.

I’m a huge fan of oil cleansers but this one was pretty mediocre for the price. The packaging is cute though. It does remove everything but you need a few pumps.
