First off I want to thank everyone who I messaged about this cleanser to give me their feedback on the performance of this face wash! To begin with I didn’t buy this & a relative bought this for me!& @ first I was looking forward to trying this Bc on the label it said fragrance free & in fact it’s a lie ! It’s not fragrance free! Like the last reviewer said! It has a very strong baby powder scent to it & it was such a familiar smell that I know Ive encountered in my life! ! LOL & it finally hit me it was the fragrance of baby wipes when my first 2 were born& back in the day there were no fragrance free baby wipes available & they included this sickening baby powder fragrance in as masking fragrance! I really don’t like it when dermatologist sensitive skin care companies like Cetaphil would add perfumes to their products knowing people with sensitive skin would react badly to it but thankfully the scent rinses away fast & completely ! & I was surprised @ how drying this face wash was on my skin& I have a faifairly oily type! They used this special zinc sulfate in it & It left my skin like scaling ! & I didn’t want to waste it & I used it for 3 months until I felt so relieved I finally got rid of this garbage! ! LOL!

Don’t let the label on the front of the bottle fool you, this product IS NOT fragrance free! In fact, it has a VERY strong perfumey/baby powdery smell.
As far as everything else goes, it’s just meh. The “foam” is very thin and watery and you’ll need to use several pumps to get a decent lather. Also feels like it leaves a film on the skin. Gross.
If you want a good foaming cleanser, try the one from Simple.

I had a bottle of Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Face Wash in my stash. I used to have profoundly oily skin in my T-zone and adult acne. But I didn’t get to this bottle until some time later, after having gone through some changes in my health and medications. I still have normal to oily skin, but my physical changes have resulted in much more sensitive skin, and my drier areas are more parched than they used to be. So, I was really not the market demographic for this product by the time I got around to using it. Needless to say, I found it drying and irritating, and the masking fragrance was offputting as well. The things I liked about it were the creamy foam texture, packaging with metered pump, and the fact that it lifted sebum, makeup and dirt like a champ. I will definitely not repurchase, and can’t recommend it based on its fragrance content. But I do understand the dilemma of oily skin, and how frustrating it can be, so it might be worth a try for those who desperately need an oil control product.

I rated this pretty well only bc it’s for people that suffer dandruff or redness/roscea. If you have this I can imagine it’s great bc of the zinc. It sucks excess moisture that irritates skin, things like sweat and oil. It’s drying like all hell so that’s why it’s not for me. This is great for body if you have acne, dandruff, eczema, psoriasis due to zinc. It will suck that excess moisture that is making you flake and itchy. This has a fragrance that is okay. Cetaphil should get rid of that. So basically I recommend this for anyone who needs itch relief, but not for facial use unless you use a moisturizer.

this was an extremely drying, irritating product for my combo/cystic acne prone skin. I mistakenly thought this formula would be just as gentle as the original cetaphil face cleanser, but more made to suit my skin problems. I definitely gave this product a chance, using it for over a month. I couldn’t go any longer as areas around my mouth and nose began to flake, not even able to be moisturized with my rosehip oil or my hyaluronic acid. A little too harsh for my sensitive acne prone skin.

WAY too perfume-y! I have stopped washing immediately below my nose with this product so as to minimize the fumes, which continue wafting up well after your face is rinsed and dried. Bit of a fail when it comes to claims that it rinses cleanly and doesn’t irritate (even if it’s technically not skin irritation). I expect this product would work best for someone who is moderately oily. I am only borderline oily (and more “combination”) so I find it rather drying and stripping. I’m currently stuck with it though and have used it about a week so far. (That is usually enough time for me to tell if I’m developing skin irritation or not.)
I give 3 stars because it does remove oil and my sensitive skin has miraculously not shown visible irritation* other than dryness (*for me, irritation usually takes the form of redness and widespread acne breakouts), which I cannot say for the vast majority of products for oily skin, with the typical “scorched earth” policy for skin cleansing. However I am very used to the calming friction reduction of foaming face washes that lather *in your hands*, and I much prefer unscented products whenever possible (like the Dermacontrol skin cream with SPF, which is just fine at what it does, without added odours). This product is dispensed as a foam, and the dispensing leaves something to be desired. I have to turn the bottle on its side if I don’t want to make a mess, and it’s neither shaped nor weighted to handle well that way. Very easy for it to slip or drop from my hands. :/
So overall 3 stars because it does deliver on what it promises, but I am not at all a fan of the packaging and depending on how long this stuff lasts at 4-5 pumps per use, I’m not crazy about the price either.

11/16/2017 – I have used this product for a while longer. Eventually I managed to get figure out how to make 3 pumps of foam work, without feeling like I’m rubbing bare hands all over my face (due to its thinness, evaporation, and lack of slip). It still didn’t help at all, and clogged pores have been on the increase all over my face, as well as a rough feeling that only irritating cleansers have tended to leave me with. I have just switched back to my HG face wash that I thankfully found (on sale!) while out today. Using it just once instantly fixed the rough feeling! I have taken an additional lippie off for this product, because it evidently does cause subtle irritation which appears to have been growing over time. (Not surprising with so much intense fragrance, poor cushioning of the face from hands, and no slip as you rub it over your skin.)
Final adjusted rating: 2/5 lippies.

I’m honestly really oily , especially at work, its doesn’t get rid of ALL the oil but I don’t notice nearly as much oil as I normally would, and best of all I feel soft and clean. Only thing I don’t like is the price.

This product is okay, not as good as the moisturiser but still better then others I have tried. The cleanser comes in a pump bottle and I pump 3 pumps on my skin at night and 2 pumps in the morning. I do recommend that you use a makeup remover before cleansing if you have heavy makeup on and always moisturise afterwards as it can be drying. I recommend also that you stick with this cleanser for at least one month to give your skin a chance. I find using benzoyl preoxide afterwards followed with the matching moisturiser has helped my skin.
Pros: pump bottle, inexpensive, helps with oil control over time.
Cons: the smell. I think it has a perfume sent and may annoy some people.
Overall a good product and will purchase again.

Truly one of the worst cleansers on the market to have ever been created. It has such a very strong, overwhelming fragrance to it, that’s absolutely unpleasant to smell. Plus, it is very drying and irritating to the skin as well. Cetaphil really did a horrible job when they came out with this stuff.

Avoid this unless your face is SUPER oily…. otherwise it’ll make your skin dry and dull. I can’t get into foaming cleansers that come out as foam immediately upon dispensing (like foaming hand soaps). My skin just needs something that starts off thicker and lathers.
