I love Tarte products but this eyeliner I do not love. It is very pigmented and smooth and it stays once it sets, but too creamy and difficult to apply without making a mess. You need to gently dot it on and smudge with the smudging applicator end.

I have several of these. This is an old school pencil that needs to be sharpened. So that is already not a fave for me as I prefer a retractable. But anyway. This black is black black. Super dark super pigmented. Good amount of slip. Doesn’t tug. Lasts on the top but sadly doesn’t last on the inner rims. It will travel a little. That being said, I keep this to one swipe on the inner rims and just have minimal smudges under my eyes. I do have oily eye area so this may work better for others. I prefer the retractable tarte skinny liners and the original thick smolder eyes. I think those last longer. This retails for $19.

I wanted to love this, but it’s a mess.
The color is a dark, intense, pigmented black that may be a little too thick and dramatic for some on the bottom line.
The tip is so soft that it needs to be sharpened after two or three uses, and it still doesn’t sharpen to enough of a point to draw a fine line or a straight line. Even once it sets, it smudges. I wouldn’t expect a $19 eyeliner to smudge like this. It’s not waterproof either. My eyes teared in the cold wind and it smudged into raccoon eyes in spots. Even without water, after less than 2 hours it has smudged completely gray in some spots and spotty black in others. It is also heavily smudged under the eye line. I accidently left it on all night, and when I woke up it was smudged and smeared under my eyes so much that it looked like I had been crying all night. Some spots on the eye line were still dark black, but it was missing in spots. Scrubbing with a toilette removed some of it but not all.
I would never buy this again and I would not recommend to anyone. The best use is for the top of the eye.

This pencil liner has all the characteristics that I want in an eyeliner. It goes on smoothly without pulling, does not smudge, is long-lasting, and blends super easily. Perfect eyeliner.
