My face has always looked darker than my neck and even the back of my hands. I purchased this serum last year along with the Olay White Radiance Brightening Intensive Cream SPF 24. It took me almost a year to finish using the set and I did notice a bit of whitening on my face. Unfortunately, with the warm weather in the Philippines and my occasional trips to the beach, my face still looked a shade or two darker than neck. But this serum does a great job moisturizing my face. I love the pump dispenser and the clear bottle. One lippie off for the expensive price. The serum alone costs almost Php 900 (USD 19).

I’m not sure if it’s the same as whitening essence, but in Asia, specifically in Indonesia, sold for around 160-170k depends on which store you buy the product.
Anyway, the key ingredient in this Olay WR IBS is a higher concentration of niacinamide, think above 4% above(please take a look at the ingredients list, it’s #2, which indicates a significant concentration indeed).
There’s been a research showing that niacinamide acts as an anti-inflammatory agent in which reduces redness, and amazingly at higher concentration, reduces the severity of breakouts compared to 1% antibiotic gel(climadycin…whatever, what’s with the complicated name anyway, you google it alright.)
I’ve been using this for 16 weeks and the results are at follow:
Paula Begoun claims that skin whitening products will work after 8-12 weeks, but in my case, as fast as 4 weeks I’ve seen a result in a reduction of breakouts and post-acne hyperpigmentation.
Best result was seen on the 12th week of use, my post-acne hyperpigmentations has been reduced and bleached, approximately 80% from their initial color.(I hate to say the percentage, since there’s no actual parameter to measure, but let’s just say, it’s a very significant improvement in discoloration)
Continual use, in my opinion, does help, but the result’s not as great as the first 8-12 weeks, think about the threshold of efficiency of the bleaching agent, it doesn’t claim to magically reduce discoloration to zero, it’s claimed to lighten and diminish it instead.
I always keep my treatments in check, regularly checking every 2 weeks to see if there’s an actual improvement at all, so I have a solid and firm prove that the product does what it claims to do.
As for the vitamin beads, as intriguing as it may sound, the concentration of vitamins are neglectible and insignificant, Paula says if the product’s vital ingredients are below the fragrance or preservatives, they’re nothing but window dressing.
So ignore the vitamins in this serum, buy a seperate antioxidant serum/moisturizer instead.
Packaging and usability:
Packaged in a pipe vacuum pum with a transparent plastic as its skin renders vitamins(which again, neglectible) to become unstable in the presence of light, however the vacuum pump protects the ingredients from contamination.
No worries about the key ingredient, niacinamide, as it is stable in the presence of heat, light, and air. If you think the vitamins are worth it(I’m not sure they do, ascorbic acid works best at concentration of 0.3% and above, I can’t say for sure how many is in there), the store the product away from the sunlight.
The product lasts for 120 days, minimal. (used AM/PM only on my face, neglecting my neck since there aren’t any hyperpigmentations), If you’re using it on your neck, it’ll probably only last 60 days or so (using it AM and PM)
I’m only using one to one half pea sized amount on my entire face as a reference.
Texture wise, it’s amazing, this is indeed a serum, very watery, lightly moisturizes(if any), feels like you’re not applying anything after 30 seconds(once it’s absorbed), then proceed with your usual moisturizer or sunscreen.
I’m impressed with the result and will continue buying as long as I still have acnes and hyperpigmentations. I’m telling you that if you’re into antioxidant or nutrient enriched serum, this is not for you. It’s definitely targetted to diminish one’s hyperpigmentations.(Although niacinamide does increase skin’s moisture content, but your skin is just greedy, its food is not only niacinamide, so buy a seperate antioxidant serum/moisturizer as I’ve said before)
Summary:
-Proven to reduce discolorations
-in my experience, reduces the severity of acne breakouts, but I can’t be sure since I’m using salicylic acid and BP 2,5% everyday.
-the effect is visible in 4 weeks and continue to improve until the 12th week, then it’ll somewhat reach its threshold (or at least, slowing down) of managing discolorations.
I hope this review helps.

Bought this item about 6 months ago. It’s one of my HG whitening products!
I love this product, it lightens scars really fast and brightened my skin quite a bit. For the first time in my whole life, i had pinkish skin haha! amazing XD Would be great if it were slightly cheaper though.
Note, though it’s good for whitening. I don’t recommend that you use it when you have pimples/ clogged pores. Use it only when your face has cleared up.
I’m taking away 1 rating for that reason.

The only thing that ever got rid of my spots and blemishes.

My mom bought this for me during her trip to China, as this is not available in Indonesia. It really helps to lighten my post acne marks, while providing light, non-greasy moisture. I don’t feel any whitening effect other than that, but that’s enough. Will repurchase, if I get my hand on this again. In the mean time, I might as well try L’Oreal White Perfect’s Essence which is available here.

First of all, I am not a fan of Oil of Olay’s products. I try their products several times, and I never get a happy result.
My mom bought this for me about $20.00 US dollars in Taiwan. This essence has a light, wonderful sent. It’s like light cream, not liquid essence I used to. I used this essence day and night for about one month. Because I didn’t see any brightening result after a week, I started to put more amount on my face. After a month, I quickly ran out of this esence, still….nothing happened. Therefore, my result is this essence is a nice moisture cream for oil skin, but it’s not a best choice for whom want to brighten their skin tone.

White Radiance is sold in Asian countries, the combination of the system works really really well. It evens out my skin tone like nothing else, and really helps with any acne scars and patch of redness. Too bad I have to have families in China buy and ship this to the US.
