After reading such rave reviews, I have to wonder if the product I tried was even the same thing. I checked and rechecked, and yes, my tube was the Sonia Kashuk mattifying primer. It was absolutely horrible–like spreading grainy silicone glue on my face. It did nothing to stop oil breakthrough, and in fact made me more oily. Despite a thin application, it felt heavy and greasy. Sure, the price is great and the packaging is nice. But I’m not putting that inelegant product on my face ever again–yuck!

I’d been using this for years because it was magic on my oily skin. I’m noticing a lot of reviewers on here have a. Oily skin (why else would we need mattifying primer)… And b. Use a mineral foundation. If anyone is looking for a great routine I can help. With oily skin what is our natural reaction: take away the oil…. Right? Wrong! One thing that I’ve stopped doing is washing my face before bed. Aaaahhh taboo right? Well, I wear mineral makeup. So my skin isn’t suffocating. I’ll usually just wash it in the shower.before bed. However! I don’t ever wash my face when I wake up ever! When you get rid of the oil, your skin just pumps out more. So instead, I moisturize it with (drum roll please) OIL!!!! I use coconut, vitamin e, avocado. What have you, and use that before bed and in the morning. My skin is the least oily it’s been my whole life. Also I use loreal mineral powder foundation which I highly recommend. It’s not expensive and it covers well. Combined with this primer and boom. Gorgeous healthy skin

So if you see this primer it looks to be about the same 1 ounce that you get with most primers but it’s only about half an ounce which makes it around $30 an ounce. Now I have only ever tried two drugstore primers before, Almay luminous and Garnier 5 second blur. I really like the Almay, It smooths out my skin and keeps my foundation looking nice for hours. But it feels quite thick and stays very tacky which works well with liquid foundations but is terrible with powder- mineral foundations. Don’t waste your money on the Garnier primer,I have nothing positive to say about it. Now on to the Sonia Kashuk , I absolutely love this primer. When I realized the price I considered taking it back, frankly I felt duped because the amount on the packaging is unreadable. But I decided to try it with my mineral foundation and then I tried it again with liquid foundation . I’ve used it several times now and I think it’s worth the price.I have combination skin sometimes and very oily skin sometimes . It’s not hot here yet but it has been warm and I’ve been sweating on occasion while wearing this primer. I held up great and for hours. It instantly blurs pores and wrinkles and mattifies but not to where my skin looks like fresh drywall. It’s very comfortable and has no odor. Bonus: It’s cruelty free and I’v decided not to buy any more products that aren’t.
I like to try lots of products but the only reason to look for a different primer would be the price. I can’t imagine even the higher end primers out performing this and it’s around the same price just with somewhat lower prestige.

I too have tried a zillion primers meant to control oil, and this one is the first to actually work for me. I’m pretty blown away. Put it on at about 10 in the morning, and by the time I washed my face around 10 at night I was just starting to get a bit shiny. With no blotting throughout the day!
That’s pretty unheard of for me.
When I first brought it home and wanted to try it, I’d already had makeup on from the day, so for fun I dabbed a little on my shiny nose; it absorbed instantly and made it quite matte. So I imagine this could be used for touching up as well, but if you use it begin with, chances are a touch-up won’t even be necessary!

I’m usually not a fan of Primer because they always seems to make my skin more oily and usually make my foundation pill up. Just seems like another step that isn’t worth the time and expense for me. I was researching mattifiers for Summer to reduce the areas that always react to summer heat…my T-zone. Others in various forms i have previously tried always had drawbacks of looking cakey or accentuating pores/lines. I hit on a few products and researched each for reviews. This one seemed to have the best reviews. I don’t think i saw even one negative review on it. I figured since it’s sold @ Target stores and they have a good return policy on cosmetics if i didn’t like it, I’d return it. I LOVE IT! I don’t want a totally matte (dried out!) look but i don’t want greasy patches on my forehead and cheeks/chin in the summer heat either. I don’t like the look of totally matte foundations. I wanted the best of both worlds…to keep using my luminous foundation but not have compounded greasiness due to summer heat/sweat. I applied this product on only the areas I’d need it (T-zone) under my usual luminous foundation. I applied it that morning and my makeup looked perfectly normal when i went to remove it around midnight. NO OILY BREAKTHROUGH WHAT.SO.EVER! ZERO! My foundation looked exactly like it did when I applied it. It didn’t feel heavy and absorbed with no sticky or greasy feeling. It doesn’t take much of the product to get results. A small pea-sized squirt did my entire T-zone. It’s housed in a pump-top hard, plastic tube. There is a cap over the pump for travel. I don’t feel the need to ever look for any other mattifying product unless they quit making this one. Truly PERFECT. $14.99 for 0.6oz at Target. HG product for sure.

i hated this product when i tried it mnths ago. Did nothing for me its like it never dried down and made skin very slippery. Fast Forward to this summer i was just curious my skin is still very oily but im having way less facial sweating and OMG let me tell u. Im mattte for at least 4 to 5 hrs with this primer and im always so suprised when i look at myslef in the mirror. I do use this this other orimers as well under my hourglass mineral viel and i put my mufe step 1 mattifying primers all in my T zone. This is an amazing combination. You might this its over kill but thats how oily my T zone can get.

I have always heard of the “holy grail”..but I long thought it was a myth.
With this product though…I have found it!
I had been using Almay Color Correcting primer..and it was okay, but not exactly doing the job.
I was looking and looking at Target for different products and comparing them on MUA at the same time and saw this had 4 stars and decided to try it.
And oh my God.
It goes on smoothly, my foundation glides over my skin, and it makes my makeup look fresh almost all day. I even went to Disney World on an almost 90 degree day and my face still looked flawless.
I will say this though..I tried to use only half a pump to make the bottle last longer and I was an oily mess within two hours. The next day I tried once again the entire pump and was perfect once more. So no “cutting corners” with this stuff.
I am more than pleased with my purchase, have been telling EVERYONE about it, and will definitely buy again.

I just tried this primer today for the first time and I love it. It is so silky but not super thick like Porefessional. It glides on nicely and you don’t have to use a lot. Has a bit of an oily feel which I am concerned about but will update later. Feels great and my makeup isn’t rubbing off like it normally does. Price is not bad ($14.99) but since my local target was closing down I got it 99% off – yes you heard that right – so the price was GREAT (I bought 4 of them hehe). The bottle it comes in is a bit annoying and it takes a VERY LONG TIME to get the product all the way up the pump and out, but after the first time there are no problems. I am excited to use this product and will update if my opinion changes.

This product did what it was supposed to. I wear Bare Essentials make-up and this helped it cover better and kept my make-up in place even on 14-hour days. Unfortunately, I have really sensitive skin and many products cause me to break out. I was hopeful this one and I could get along since it didn’t make my skin itch the first few days. About two days in, it actually looked like the few blemishes I had were going away. (Could this be a bonus effect?) Alas, within a week, I had several new ones pop out though. I also periodically noticed a burning sensation on the areas of my face that I know get the oiliest. It was an odd feeling for sure. Came back to edit that nope, I will never use this again. I discovered Dermalogica Age Smart Skin Perfect Primer and I’m totally hooked on that!

I HAVE FOUND THE CURE.
I have been going on an all out binge to find something to control my oily skin. It’s so bad that 15 minutes after washing my face I have beads of oil all over my nose. I’ve tried Smashbox Photo Finish Light, Becca Ever Matte (a close second to this stuff, but twice as expensive), Rimmel Stay Matte, Hard Candy’s Sheer Envy primer, Neutrogena Shine Control, Benefit Porefessional Agent Zero Shine.. the list goes on, with both drug store brands and Sephora brands. I decided to randomly take a trip to Target with my boyfriend and stare at the makeup isle for a half hour, as is customary, and checked out the Sonia Kashuk stuff. I did some quick googling and just thought I’d give it a try.
This stuff works miracles. I almost cried the first time I used it. I applied it the next day before work at 9:50am and didn’t blot or reapply powder for 6.5 hours.. and I was only satiny after running around waiting tables all day.
The PROS:
HG OIL CONTROL!
It’s clear so it will work for any skin tone
There is no scent (a pet peeve of mine)
I had my friend with sensitive skin try it with no side effects (although I guess that might not be the case for everyone)
I can survive using this without a moisturizer in a pinch
dat price
The CONS:
The texture kind of weirds me out a bit. It’s a bit hard sometimes to tell where I have and haven’t applied, and the primer feels kind of oily in a dry way? Very slippery. It’s hard to describe but I’ll stop being a baby if it makes me this matte.
I would recommend this to anyone and everyone with severely oily skin!! It’s a lifesaver!
