I have been using this for the last couple of weeks, including the last bank holiday by the coast.
This 50ml product states ‘up to 8hrs Sun Protection from One Application’, £10 (although regularly on multi buy deals). Which I know could be quite dangerous as application amounts and actual coverage is subjective. However a good sunscreen is one that is worn and I am usually too distracted to be reapplying every 2 hrs. This time I was walking along the coast to find a great picnic/volley ball spot.
I have dehydrated-combination, acne prone, irritated skin with some PIH issues and a now slight (!) hormonal melasma around my mouth and chin. SPF is the biggest hitter in my skincare arsenal.
This is a cream, not as thick as some but could be a little lighter. It goes on slightly white, but with a massage into the skin it disappears into my dark skin. Quite shiny at first but once it dries down it becomes satin like on the skin – I don’t have to wear powder with this. This does not cause break outs, which I am still surprised about, nor any SS rash like symptoms. I use around my occipital bone and I don’t experience any eye sting once I’ve gotten hot or anything.
1 lipstick off due to how much you have to put on for full SPF protection. 1 tsp for face & neck, which is 5ml. So only 10 applications from the tube. Phew that is a lot of this product. Realistically I use just over half of that so I am not getting the full protection. I know I am bad, but at least there is some right? I put on one layer all over and let that dry down for 5 mins, then I’ll add another, then wait 20mins for dry down. Because if I tried to put it all on at once, it seems to take longer to dry up to 45min.
I didn’t use other sun protection measures, apart from sunglasses during my mini break away and I did catch a slight tan. No where near the tan any of my friends who used other brands and failed to reapply. No SS is 100% protection, especially if I don’t follow instructions.
This is a “Moisturising Suncare Cream” and yes, I find myself reaching for this as it reduces the layers of products on my skin. It is difficult to layer my hydrating Vitamin C serum underneath as this can make my face very shiny. But waiting for 20-30mins(as Vit C likes anyway) between applications this is negated. However I rarely have 45mins in the morning to “wait” for my skin products to absorb and then apply makeup. I like my sleep. So another lipstick off.
I remove this with an pre cleanse – oil as this is a has to be a stubborn SS. It is water resistant for up to 40 mins so thorough removal is paramount.
Over that last few months I have been testing sooo many SS (12) and I think I have SS fatigue. It’s a thing; all the research, developing a check list, finding a good overseas supplier (I have bought a few from Japan, the SS kingdom) checking out EU ones, even 2 Paula’s Choice ones. I am trying to not be despondent about all of the fails.
However until my SS mojo comes back and I continue the quest for my HG SS, this’ll do.
