The good:
Shade: PERFECT. It’s a cool-toned almost-black, deep dark creamy and matte, exactly what I wanted.
Price: middle of the road, fair for the amount of product
Tenacity: excellent, amazing even
The painful:
I love every thing about this amazing product, except for the fact that it really bugs my eyes. They burn and sting and tear like crazy all day when I wear this, not to mention that I can’t see through my contacts because they get all blurry. UGH. Why, Bobbi, why?! Why would you tempt me with an almost-perfect product, the only liner that has ever applied like a dream AND stayed on through my oily lids and apparently hectic life that causes all inferior eye products to disappear completely by noon regardless of the 4 P’s: primer, perfect application, powder and prayer. What’s in this stuff, arsenic? Is that the secret to its longevity? And the biggest question of all: Will my eyes ever stop hurting?

I wanted to love it, but couldn’t. I mainly purchased it because of the color and great reviews, however, the pigment is not even, it is difficult to apply, and it is NOT long lasting. I am so disappointed, was expecting something much better from BB.

After years of trialling so many waterproof eyeliners, I had my doubts. I had read about this product and all the great reviews, I trialled it by visiting my local BB counter and tried this product. I walked out and returned 30 mins later and purchased it.
Wearability – this product stays on for the whole day. I don’t use a primer simple moisturise, sometimes foundation and concealer, the product stays on.
No panda eyes or running, even if you are warm after the gym this product is still in place.
Colour selection – I chose the espresso as the other browner colours were not strong enough but the black was too hard for day use. Next time I am buying caviar ink as this is a perfect combo of brown/black.
Pricewise – I thought it was quite expensive, however if I get six months out of this product I will be happy and cost per wear could be more effective.
Ease of application – my only suggestion would be use a eyeliner type brush and it seems to set quickly. I work up my look as I don’t like a solid line still maintaining a natural but defined look.
I apply on my lower lids and sometimes on the very edge but not water line of my upper lids. You could do a cats eye with this. I saw someone at the counter who was trialling it as a smokey eye in one of the other colours, so it is quite a good multi use product but you’d probably need to work fast. My only grumble was the cost but otherwise it’s an awesome products. I havent had any issues with drying out, it’s been over 2 months now and I am heading out of summer into autumn.

Love the shade and texture for applying, wears well…but dries out so quickly. This was my second try with this product, and it just dries out in the tub so quickly (even when stored upside-down) that I can’t give it five lippies.

My first high end gel eyeliner. The previous liners I tried were all drugstore like from Revlon and Loreal and every single one of them transferred elsewhere. I have hooded eyelids and I need something that will stay in place. In comes this eyeliner and Im very pleased with my results!
I apply this with a thin angled brush, sometimes I use primer and sometimes I dont. I dont see a difference with wear time for this liner stays on my lids the entire day, even without primer. I never had any transferring with this and that is the most important factor for me. The color intensity does fade throughout the day a bit and I dont mind that, for me it’s much better than smearing and going elsewhere. I find the formula quite hard compared to the other gel liners Ive tried; BobbiBrown’s gel liner should be called “wax liner” for it closely resembled my waxy brow pomade. It dries out quickly which is a shame because I have to restore it and stress about prolonging the life of it so I can get my moneys worth. Color pay off is great, it applies true to pot color and it is opaque. I myself was hoping for a more deeper and warmer brown but this is a more dark cool brown which is not bad but I would like the color to be more intense yet that is not stark black.
I have dark tan skin, black brown eyes, dark hair and this gel liner is very natural on me. Since I bought it, I wear it everyday and it goes with everything which is a big plus in my book. Besides, it does it’s job and doesn’t slack off until I take it off. I want to try out the Black Ink color. I can recommend this liner and I will buy again.

This product is the only product I’ve actually ever had to return because it stopped working in 48 hours of use.
With gel liners, I am and was aware that when you use them, they are best stored: closed tightly, upside down, and in a dry but shaded location. I did all of these for the two days I was able to use this product. On the third day, it was so dry and stiff, the product wouldn’t budge.
Even after the first day, it was clear that this product didn’t take well to being opened. It became harder to spread on my upper lid and was difficult to work with. I found it was really blotchy and took forever to spread. I also found it migrated on me as well.
The color is exactly what I was hoping for, but the product sure was not. I don’t know if this was a fluke or typical of this product, though it seems I’m not the only one with this experience. I will not be repurchasing this product because of it.

I got this from the airport last night and i have really enjoyed it. It sticks onto my brush so easily and cant apply it so nicely as well. The best thing about it is that it looks good and not thick and clungy like most pencils too. Holds a nice shape to it and drys well. Good brand love it

My holy grail eyeliner! Doesn’t smudge, budge, is waterproof and is so easy to apply. After 2 hours of intense workout at the gym with sweat pouring all over my face, it still stayed on and doesn’t make me look like a panda :p

I love Bobbi Brown long wear gel eyeliner in Espresso Ink — it was just what I was looking for. I wanted a deep brown long-lasting eyeliner that could line in a very thin way long the upper and lower lash lines. The performance of this product is flawless — it does not smudge, budge or smear — and the color and texture are fabulous. I needed a super thin eyeliner that would make my blue eyes pop and then blend nicely with a caramel brown eyeshadow for a smoky look. Perfect on all fronts. Thank you Bobbi Brown!

First I don’t know why this product is called a “gel” because it is not a gel at all! It is more a hard cream eyeliner. Like you can’t dip your brush in it like the Mac one or the Clinique one. So at first I was really annoyed! You can’t really use a fine eyeliner brush.. I manage to create a flick using an angles brush, and better with a synthetic bristles, not the MAC 266, the MAc 263 works. The formula applies dry like with a fine eyeliner pencil, so it is opaque and can be really quick but if you want to have a sharp line you have to work it a bit more.
I think the eespresso ink color is really nice. But for black gel-liner I think I will stay with Mac
I don’t think I will repurchase this one since the effect is similar than using a brown eye pencil.
EDIT: Ok.. So finally I really like it. I forced myself to use it and I really like the color! Also I find it fast to apply because it is so pigmented it is good on one swipe. I hope it will not dry out quickly… that will determine if I repurchase it or not.
