My current foundation favorites have been failing me lately and summer is approaching, so it was time to switch it up a bit. I have oily skin, prone to clogging more than breaking out (I’ve isolated the zit culprits, but the clog harbingers are trickier). I like a medium coverage that looks natural. I got this in Intensity 2.0 and it’s a really good match for my light olive skin. I decided on Double Wear Light after I tried the regular Double Wear and loved the longevity but it’s just too thick and cakey for my tastes, esp. in warm weather. And you really need to take your time appying it, which is not my forte tbh.
This however. This is kind of amazing.
It has the texture of an older-school tinted moisturizer but with more coverage. I “prime” with a silicone-based sunblock and have been adding a bit of powder after primer and before foundation application to help with oil control, so my experience has been w/ that method. (I wore it 1x without the powder and I did get oily earlier, but the foundation itself did not wear off.) (Also with this method you can use less of a $42 foundation.) It’s easy to apply (I use my fingers so I don’t waste $42 foundation) and find I don’t need too much.
It lasts all day, doesn’t oxidize, hasn’t broken me out, and has a matte but not flatte look. It does well with my problem areas, which are sides of nose and under lip/chin – doesn’t emphasize flakes or get crusty. Doesn’t settle into my one problem smile line. Doesn’t pool into pores, even when I get oily.
Honestly, this is really great foundation and I definitely recommend it. The only con is the shade range. Packaging is an easy-to-use and spill-resistant squeezy tube.
UPDATE – after about 2 weeks of wear, I stand by this review. No breakouts or irritation whatsoever. I’ve been mixing it 50/50 with a couple of my favorite Korean BBs and it’s borderline next level this way, the best of both worlds. The EL enhances longevity and the BBs blur pores, add glow.

I like the double wear maximum coverage but wanted something lighter to wear on casual or weekend days. So a consult with the lady at my local Estee Lauder counter put this into my hands & I was thinking of trying it anyways. I also think the only way to get a proper color match with Estee foundations is to try it on, it’s difficult to guess and the wrong color will definitely look terrible. It’s definitely lighter than a typical foundation, not tinted moisturizer or bb cream light, maybe more like a cc cream as it can be built up to medium covreage. I like that it wears well and stays put, no shifting or settling into my fine lines. It’s a bit drying though, I have very dry skin and have to moisturize heavily. But most emollient foundations shift and transfer on me so I decided to go with something that has a good reputation.
So after putting it through some extremes (for me) I have to say this is turning out to be a very reliable and lightweight foundation that I find looks best on my skin if I apply enough for a light coverage. If I try to go heavy to get a medium coverage it looks a little cakey and I have to blend it a lot, often removing a lot of product and ending up with a lighter coverage anyways. It stays put, even through some sweating, and if I accidentally wipe at my face or touch it no makeup comes off.

I’ve been avoiding this thinking it was going to be heavy coverage but it’s light and can be sheer to medium depending on how I apply it. It looks very natural on my skin and doesn’t look dry or emphasize my pores or my lines. I’m so surprised!. 1.0 is a great color for my NC20 skin color and looks perfect. Love the tube. I need a foundation that holds up to coats and scarves for the winter–I hate transfer.

I’m glad I got a sample. To me, this is pretty darn close to full coverage, there’s nothing light about it. Not as good as controlling oil as the regular ELDW. The color an good match, I’m NC50 and I got intensity 6.0. It’s a nice foundation but still too heavy and full coverage to be called light. I’ll stick to the original.

I started with ELDW. I liked it, but it was more coverage than I need/looking for. I finally got one of their generous samples of DW Light. I’m Desert Beige 21N1 in DW and 2.0 in DW Light. The 2.0 Light is a little more cool than Desert Beige but still works on my neutral (leaning warm) skin especially going into summer and because it is less coverage than regular DW.
I had very long list of requirements for HG foundation… I wanted something that (1) looked natural with (2) medium coverage with a (3) satin/dewy finish that (4) lasts and is (5) transfer resistant and suitable for (6) dry skin. This foundation is ticked ALL of those boxes! Up until now, everything I’ve tried has fallen short of at least one of those boxes. I’m hesitant to call it HG but I think it is!!!
I have DRY SKIN and it took me a little while to get this right. It was too matte at first. I moisturize and use SPF. I then add a drop or two of Argan oil to my skin and let that sink in. The oil was the KEY to making this work for my dry skin. I’ve also tried mixing the oil into the foundation like some vloggers suggest and that works, but I prefer applying it to face before foundation. I use BB sponge to apply to skin. I do not set with powder. I feel the light is a little easier to work with than the ELDW. The regular DW dries down so fast that I have to work in sections of my face. With the Light, I can dot all over my face and then work it in with BB. For a dewier look, I’ve also mixed with MAC Strobe Cream. I like that look too!! One blogger suggested the d/s Lumi stuff as a dupe for MAC Strobe cream. I would call the finish I get like this satin/luminous – not full on dewy.
It is insane how well this stuff stays on! I went to Vegas this past weekend. Applied makeup at 5am for my flight. This stuff still looked great at close to midnight. That evening, I went to the MAC counter to look at F&B. In conversation with MAC lady, I said I was wearing ELDW Light. She said, I wouldn’t change it. It looks great on you and if you put it on that early and it still looks that great, I’d say stick with it. Alrighty then!!!!
I guess the only negative I can say is… I still think this looks natural but at the same time you aren’t going to fool anyone into thinking you aren’t wearing m/u. And that’s not really a negative, it is a foundation. I would expect TM and BB’s to fool people but not a true foundation – I still want to find a lesser coverage TM/BB for casual days – that’s why I was looking at MAC F&B. Also, Shade range is limited. Regular DW has such an extensive shade range – I’m surprised this range is so limited. I love my match but some skin tones may not be able to find a match – seems particularly lacking in cool tones.
Foundation is SO personal. Go to EL counter and request sample. They are so good about giving generous samples without giving you the stink eye that I get at Sephora/Ulta sometimes.

Self-proclaimed foundation hoor right here. Not bad stuff.
I own a bottle of the Double Wear Foundation in Tawny and Double Wear Light (shade 3.0) and enjoy both. Double Wear Light, as the name suggests, has less coverage than Double Wear but shares almost the same longevity. The tube packaging for DWL is convenient for traveling.
I believe that the DWL functions and looks best without anything underneath if you have skin like mine (oily and prone to comedones). The exception I would make is perhaps Skindinavia’s Primer Spray for how light it is.
It does look very natural – the finish is demi-matte in my humble opinion – but I do feel like I need to use more product than I would ideally like to build up to a comfortable amount of coverage for my skin which is prone to hyperpigmentation. So the price per use may be an objection for some. However, once it sets, it doesn’t budge and I was pleasantly surprised at the lasting power.
I also do think that this foundation has a propensity to clog my pores because of how matte it can be, but I would say that stems mostly from my own lack of attention to my skincare routine. I would highly suggest double cleansing after using this product.
It looks fresh on me hours after application with no oxidation and the coverage doesn’t fade. I’m impressed with the quality of EL foundations and they don’t play around when it comes to base products formulated for oily skin.
I have basically a wardrobe of base products at this point in time and DWL is something I’d wear to a first date. Reliable, a little posh, and natural looking, but provides adequate coverage and lasting power.

This is HG so far for me. Intensity 2.0 is a perfect match. Blends beautifully, feels like nothing but covers everything I need it to cover. Does not settle into lines or pores. Lasts all day for me. L’Oreal True Match is a very close runner up, in creamy natural. Similar texture and coverage. EL blends a bit better for me.
I have been testing many foundations lately but this is always my trusty reliable go to product for every occasion. Price is reasonable for a high end product. Tube is functional but not super luxe looking. I guess I can live with it to keep the price reasonable.
EDIT- I have been mixing this with Tarte Brighter Days moisturizer to sheer it out on days when I want a lighter finish, and it works very well. I like the glow this combo gives, and I like the increased versatility.

I like this foundation a lot. It stays on your face, makes you look absolutely poreless, it feels light like its claim, but still offers definite coverage. The original DW was way way heavy and mask-like, so I’m glad they offered a lighter option. Unfortunately, their shade selection is smaller than the DW original. I’m in between shades, story of my life. I’m between NC25 and NC30, and in DW Light I’m between intensity 2 and 3. 2.0 made me look super kabuki, while 3.0 was a bit on the orange tan side. I picked up 3.0 since I could manage with it but honestly I wish they had a 2.5 or something that’s a little less orange.
Edit: what is it with EL foundations and breaking up on my nose?! Maybe my nose is the problem, but I don’t really have this issue with other foundations. It just doesn’t stay on my nose, therefore not doing its job :/

Before I give my full review of this product, let me say that I am a huge fan of Estee Lauder and use many of their products regularly. That being said, let me continue by telling you that this isn’t even good enough to be purchased at your local dollar general or dollar tree, whichever you are familiar with. Not only does this formula lack any coverage, it felt and looked like I was spreading tinted Wesson vegetable oil on my face. Never again.

Have used this for years. I have very oily skin and a lot of roseacea. ELDWL does a good job covering redness. I recently switched from Level 1 to Level .5. I am about NW15. I like the lighter shade better. I either wear over Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer or I mix the primer and foundation together. Need to blot my nose later in the day. Not as heavy as ELDW. I experiment with other foundations, but nothing beats ELDWL.
