the original smells so strong, makes my hair feel so dry in an almost crunchy way and makes my scalp tingly almost too intensively to the point of sensitivity. was wondering and a little scared to know if this generic version would be like the original and I would have wasted my money seeing as I’m on a budget. the exact opposite happened; this generic version smells so fresh yet isn’t nearly as tingly as the original. it actually makes my hair super soft even without the use of conditioner. it is a thinner, green product but lathers very well. overall I’m really pleased with this and will probably repurchase once I’m out.
p.s my fiance has a really dry, flakey scalp that nothing would help to the point where the flakes would collect on his thick eyebrows and look really unpleasant. this generic tea tree oil shampoo has worked so well and completely clears him up. he is also someone where any dandruff shampoo with a strong smell of any sort bothers him to the point of not being able to use it for long and this one doesn’t bother him at all.

Although I don’t think Sally’s GVP products are exactly like the originals, sometimes I like them better. This one is more minty smelling, and the Paul Mitchell version smells more like tea tree. It’s also not as tingly/ cooling on the scalp as Paul Mitchell. However, I prefer this one because the original is a little much for my scalp and caused excessive shedding, and this one doesn’t. It makes my hair clean, shiny and residue free (my hair is fine & wavy). Haven’t tried the conditioner yet, so far I’ve been using it with Paul Mitchell lavender mint conditioner (the Sally’s version isn’t as good on my hair). I don’t have scalp issues so I can’t say if this version clears things up as well as people say the Paul Mitchell version does. A 16 ounce bottle is about $8 at Sally’s.

With just ONE use my hair was left super soft with no frizz as if I had applied a conditioning treatment. As soon as I worked it into a lather I immediately noticed that it had a soft and slip feeling, it’s hard to explain other than I’ve never had a shampoo feel this good while in my hair. The smell is nice and it has a bit of a cooling feel also.

Ok I am in LOVE with this shampoo..it makes my hair so shiny and smell good. It helps with the dandruff or dry skin I get in the winter. I pair this with Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner to cut down on static. I plan on buying this again!

Love the peppermint scent added in, it really helps take the edge off the strong tea tree scent. Has slight tingle. Initially noticed increased itching of scalp but one week later it has subsided. Also day one hair was much more greasy and I could not get away without washing daily. I did like the very subtle scent left behind in my hair. It felt clean and refreshing.
I chose to say I would not buy it again because it really did not improve my scalp or hair health. I was scared it would cause some dryness to my hair but it never did. My hair did not feel stripped or dry, the oil seemed to leave more moisture to my hair than I needed. It was not bad though so there is a possibility I would purchase this again maybe in summer when I like refreshing and cool shampoos.

This is definitely a ‘treatment’ shampoo, and if you keep that in mind, it will work great for you. Got nasty, greasy hair? Product build up on your length, or oily roots? How about itchy, flaky scalp? This shampoo is for you. I use it on an as-needed basis for all those things and it works great. I’m sure if I used this on my hair every day it would strip the crap out of it, but I’m not dumb enough to do that. Use it when it’s appropriate and follow with a good conditioner (like GVP Conditioning Balm) and it will do wonders for your hair and scalp.

A few years back, I got the dreaded call from my daughter’s school that she had lice. In a complete panic, I googled every sort of home remedy and over the counter product out there on the market. A lot of mom’s seemed to swear by tea tree oil shampoo. And I’m desperate, so I buy this from Sally’s. Endless hours of RidX and combing go by, and I send the poor girl in to wash all the gunk out with this. It’s some heavy duty cleansing going on, one wash and she’s got all that oily mess out. Got rid of the lice, and I’ve kept it in the house for her since. She never got lice again, but who knows if it’s from using the shampoo or because she’s wiser now to not share anything that lice could hitch hike on. I’ve tried it for myself, it’s a great clarifying shampoo. And for oily scalps, it’s a miracle. Her hair wasn’t stripped or damaged from all the horrid RidX and combing.

Not generally a huge fan of PM but I read such great reviews about the tea tree oil line and when I was in Sally one day the gvp line was on sale so I figured I’d try it. Wow. My stylist had been over-highlighting my hair and I finally said to lowlight and add back some color (dark brown) back but nothing was making it shine again. This shampoo and matching conditioner did wonders — even (gasp!!) better results than I was getting with Kerastase chroma protect line. I have tried the gvp versions of PM Awapuhi and Detangler and found them to be almost as good as the real thing. I was able to use less smoothing product when styling.

Love it. Leaves my hair soft and shiny, and it keeps away the scalp buildup I was getting with shampoo bars.
The smell is more minty than anything, and it kinda looks like gel toothpaste, but it works really well. Just enough tea tree tingle to let you know it’s there!

So this is my first review, I love sharing great finds, and this is one of them. I found it at Sally’s Beauty Supply Store. This shampoo is great for dry & oily scalp. I use it like a once a week treatment to keep my scalp from getting itchy or dandruff. I like to use it if I have not washed my hair for a couple of days. I have fine limp hair which I color so I can get oily at the roots and dry at the scalp. I do use conditioner every time I wash my hair to keep away dry frizzy hair and like i said this is a great in between your regular product shampoo. I also really like the cleansing bar by the same company but there is no spot to review that. It works for eczema & acne, and is a great body bar that leaves no residue on your skin but at the same time does not dry out your skin. It’s like a mild antiseptic (so is the shampoo). The product does contain tea tree oil so it has a strong tea tree scent, but that is only when using it, the sent does not stay in your hair or skin. I just can’t rave enough about how fresh and clean this product makes you feel! Low score on the packaging because it is generic so black & white generic label. I don’t care but maybe you do?

I have tried the name brand but like this generic brand much better and it’s half the price.
***I wrote this review then read the others and I would like to add that i use a different conditioner with this product (Matrix Sleek Look) and I do agree that shampoo & conditioner in this brand do not work well together, although the conditioner is great for shaving your legs 😉
