Paul Smith Floral is one of my all time favorite fragrances. It is a lovely evocation of the 70’s ‘Flower Power’ spirit. It is a shame it has been discontinued and i think it may have something to do with the bottle design. It’s a rather big bottle and has a very thin sprayer than bends and is prone to breakage. It’s annoying but it doesnt take away from how much i love this fragrance. It is a zesty, zingy floral. With notes of ginger, pink grapefruit and sweet orange it is not your average floral fragrance. It’s different. Floral notes are osmanthus, orchid and magnolia. It is so splendid how the floral notes combine with the citrus notes. It’s a rather long lasting fragrance and projects well. I catch whiffs of what i think is vanilla but it isnt. It is the note of tonka bean in the fragrance. It’s in the background and does not take the fragrance off to a gourmand direction. Paul Smith Floral is exactly what it says. A floral. A citrusy floral that is an absolute delight to wear. Also, the packaging and bottle are absolutely to die for. A hippie/paisley type swirl is on the bottle and packaging which make the perfume really fun to look at. I thought they might resurrect this perfume with a better, non clunky bottle design but it didnt happen which is a shame so i’ll have to stick to try and finding it on Ebay when i want it.

Part of the fragrance mix I do enjoy: white/yellow florals, candle wax or crayons, a hint of vanilla power. At times it faintly reminds me of a watered down Cacharel Lou Lou or Versace Crystal Noir and I like that.
However, there is something “off” in this that really put me off. At first I thought it was chemically rubber, like spermical rubber condoms, the same note that turned me off Beyonce True Star and Lolita Lempicka.
But then I read dancingoutlaw’s review and I couldn’t have put it better than when she said this smells like something, perhaps a chicken…
“that as gone bad in the fridge and someone has tried to cover it up with an old, sweet air freshener…or covered up b.o.(ahhh, the dreaded b.o. note) with sweet deodorant; but it didn’t work.”
Yes! A 5 day raw chicken (when you know from the smell its turned, even though its yet to actually start to pong somehow it registers with your limbic brain that its very bad). She totally nailed the scent note!
As for the throw and lasting power, unlike dancingoutlaw I find the Floral thin and watered down. Mine says “Eau de Parfum” but I don’t believe its even an EDT. Usually I’m a one spray girl, but with Floral I find it needs 2 – 5 sprays at least and only lasts 1- 2 hours before its totally undetectable, even with my nosepressed right up against my wrist. I’m pretty annoyed how fast I raced through the bottle as it was pricey! I did receive 3 free gifts with purchase unexpectedly though. 2 large cosmetic bags that matched the perfume bottle (totally cute and I use them), plus a mens laptop bag (gave it away). Its funny how I actually love those cosmetic bags way more than the actual fragrance!
I think the white bottle with happy primary colors, generic florals, safe powdered vanilla musk, and the chicken/rubber condom/crayon notes plus lack of staying power all suggest this is aimed at young teens. It might be a good one for the office too if you’re after an easy going perfume to get along with others. When I asked people what they thought of the fragrance they all said it was hard to pin down, pleasant but boring, kind of nice and difficult to dislike, inoffensive but not very memorable and lacking personality. All good things when you want to wear fragrance but not offend.
If on the other hand you want to try a Paul Smith fragrance with more substance, try “Extreme”, which shares the same powdered vanilla base as Floral but has 10x as much personality and impact – you will only need one spray to last for hours!
I’m intrigued and keen to try dancingoutlaw’s suggestion of Rochas Poupée – Orange, Grapefruit, Ginger, Water Lily, White Magnolia, Orchid, Osmanthus Blossom, Woods, Musk, Tonka Beans. Keeping an eye on Strawberrynet prices where I have seen it selling recently…

smells just like a more sophisticated version of betsey johnson. i enjoyed this. floral but warm on skin with a lovely base.

This is a lovely feel-good fragrance. I think it’s a bit too sweet for me now though, and I enjoyed it more a few years back. However, it is nice and cheery from time to time. The florals are blended really well to me.

This is my favourite summer perfume. It’s delicate and girly, not strong flowers as the name would suggest. It’s not overpowering, more one of those you can smell only when you’re up close to the person wearing it. Not bad pricewise either – I paid £13 for 30ml. The bottle is cute & quirky, funny shaped & white with a yellow & orange lid. The only reason I put it one lippy down is I think the packaging is pretty deceiving, they showed me a big tester in the shop & the tin that it comes in was a similar size so I expected that size bottle when I bought it. But when I got it home & opened it the bottle was only half the size as the bottom half of the tin contains packaging then the bottle stands on top of that! But overall a gorgeous scent that I will buy again & again, a definite firm favourite suitable for work & out & about.

Its light but not too light, quite feminine. If you spray it in your clothes it stays until you wash them. The only thing is that the bottle is a bit awkward to spray. I have a 100ml one and the nozzle broke before i had used half of it which was quite annoying. It now shoots out bit drops. Two of my friends had this too and the same thing happened to them. Other than that its quite nice.

I’d forgotten about this until I started looking around at fragrances again. Then, I remembered that the main reason I hadn’t repurchased it was the incredibly annoying (and not particularly attractive!) bottle. It is not practical or easy to spray. Shame because I really liked the scent and though it’s described as Floral it isn’t flowery in the traditional sense. I guess it’s Paul Smith’s interpretation of floral. It’s light and a bit different. I’m considering rebuying… Assuming it’s still available.
EDIT: I ended up with another bottle of this and either I’ve changed or it has – because it’s a bit sweet for me now.

I’m not sure how much this was as it was a present. I hated this the first time i sprayed as it really wasnt powerful enough for me.
I sprayed it again and its actually not too bad, It’s not the first perfume i’d reach for on my shelf but it has a nice warming scent once it has settled and becomes less floral. If i ran out of my favourite i would use this.
The bottle on the other hand is the worst bottle i’ve ever seen, I cant spray this unless i put the botte on a surface and press down. Not the best design.

I really love this perfume. Usually I don’t like floral scents, but this is very soft and lovely perfume. I wouldnt buy it again, but at the moment I am very satisfied with this perfume. Like it.

a bit surprised with the negative reviews here. i love this perfume, yes the packaging is a bit weird but the smell is nice and it has good staying power as well. so far no complaint.
