Contains selenium sulphide as its antifungal agent, rather than pyrithione inc in the rest of the H&S line.
It is effective at treating dandruff, seborrhoeic dermatitis, and pityriasis versicolor BUT there is no getting away from that sulphur smell. It’s not so obvious immediately since there is so much scent covering it up in the formula itself but give it a few hours and your hair starts to smell like fart. It also has its delightful aroma cling to every towel and sponge it touches, too.
I can’t deny its effectiveness as an antifungal treatment but it smells so bad it’s an effective antisocial agent, too.
If zinc-based antifungals disagree with you, try looking into coal tar or ketoconazole based shampoos.

HO-LEE SHIT. THE SMELL. SO BAD. I only used this once and trashed it so I can’t fully speak to its efficacy (although it certainly didn’t work wonders in one go) but the smell rendered this utterly unusable for me. It smells like musty old man dog pee cologne and the smell seems to intensify and expand as the days go on. 3 days later and I’ve had to wash all my clothes, bedspread, sheets etc because the smell was making me completely naseous. I don’t understand why they thought this smell was okay. Also it seemed to give me a small mild rash on my neck

You do have to let it sit on your scalp for a little while in the shower before rinsing to get the most benefit.
It did help with flakes and itching ok but nothing spectacular.
The initial scent is not too bad(almost like a medicated dog shampoo) but after a few minutes UGH terrible.
Also after rinsing very well, I can still smell this on my body and hair and the smell keeps building and getting stronger and stronger. It smells horrendous! It just keeps getting worse.
I cannot stand it.
I will not be repurchasing this for that reason.
It literally makes me gag throughout the day.
Update:
My dog peed on her toy and it dried, the horrendous musky urine scent reminded me very much of this shampoo.
Yuck

I moved from west to east coast and all of a sudden I have dandruff, probably due to extremely dry winter air. I tried Head and Shoulders with zinc, Body Shop ginger shampoo that gets rave reviews on this site, and neither of them worked to get rid of my winter flakes. This shampoo worked to get rid of the dandruff within a week. I was really happy.
HOWEVER, my bf cannot stand the smell. He says it reminds him of old men smell (his dad). I could not stand the smell for the first couple of days, but then I got used to it, but apparently the smell can be pretty appalling to other people. I think I will try Selsun Blue to see if it smells better.

It works! The fastest and most effective thing to knock out my stubborn sebhorrheic dermatitis, (ewwwww). And after you’re all cleared up using it just once a week or so seems to keep it at bay since it is a bit drying and not the greatest smell. Disappointed that I can’t find this in Europe. Do note that it advises super-thorough rinsing on light-coloured hair, mine is nearly black so I didn’t find this an issue but something to keep in mind.

I’ve been suffering with dandruff for ages now. I haven’t really had any luck with other dandruff shampoos. Then I came across this one. I love it I use it every time I wash my hair (~3 days) and this works. I noticed that in winter, my scalp gets a lot more oily than usual. The only thing I don’t like is it smells weird.

the only thing that really works for my seborrheic dermatitis. helps with flakes and bumps on my scalp. tried other things over the years and went back to this.

After a few years of using natural deodorants like Jason Tea Tree oil deodorant and Herban Cowboy Blossom deodorant, I, sadly, switched back to an antiperspirant. Work has become wayyy to stressful to attempt to go without one. So far I am really impressed with this one! No itchy arm pit, no irritation, no overwhelming fragrance (I use the stress response version) and my armpits stay clean and dry for a entire day even after a solid hour long workout and my physically taxing job.
I was really hoping to stick with my natural alternatives *sigh* but I have simply too much anxiety to forgo an antiperspirant. Luckily I found this one and it was worth every penny!

This review is for Secret Clinical Strength Invisible Solid (Completely Clean Scent). I have not tried to gel or soft solid. i use it once a day.
I’m a big sweater, especially in social/stressful situations, so I’ve always had to deal with the fact that ordinary deodorant just wasn’t enough to deal with the smell and sweat I’d produce. It made me very self conscious.
This deodorant is so amazing — I will never use ordinary deodorant again! I don’t get body odour anymore, ever. My shirts NEVER smell at the end of the day when I take them off, even when I’ve been out working in extremely hot weather. It decreases my wetness as well, although I don’t find that it completely eliminates it.
Love this deodorant.

This stuff is awesome. Like some other reviews I, too, tried more “natural” deodorants. Tom’s of Maine deodorant and Alba Botanica deodorant left me reeking of nasty BO. I even used plain coconut oil which actually worked pretty well, but left grease stains on my clothes. Then I tried using men’s deodorant without antiperspirants in them – Every Man Jack, Dove, Arm and Hammer. Still smelled nasty. Schmitt’s deodorant was pretty good but also left stains due to the coconut oil. So I went back to this stuff and I am glad I did. Haven’t really tried too many conventional non clinical strength deodorants/ anti perspirants so I can’t say how much better this is. But all I know this product works for me. Leaves me smelling great all day long and as a bonus keeps my underarms super dry. The BEST one is the stress response Oprah scent. Smells amazing!

doesn’t make me itchy! i have really sensitive underarms yet i sweat a lot and this does the trick! will definitely repurchase.

I usually have luck with Secret brand deodorants. Not this one. I sweat, a lot. I actually tried this in the Spring, before we had any real heat to speak of or make my armpits need something ‘extra’. This literally only worked for maybe an hour for me, and then it felt like I did not have deodorant on (sorry tmi maybe). This is also kind of pricey, and I was thinking wow, if regular Secret works well for me, this must be magical! Nope, not the case for me. Won’t repurchase. I debated between 1 and 2 star/lippie ratings, but really, roughly an hour of protection..? No thank you.

The only deodorant that works for me BUT only the sport version makes the magic . The original scent doesn’t make me sweat but oh boy it gives me a bad odor (since the scent starts to fade away in aproximately 2hrs) and I had high hopes for it but it dissapointed me so I rather stick to the sports version stick (the invisible solid) which gets. A 5 star From me

Maybe it’s just me but I absolutely cannot stand the smell of this stuff. I’m not sure if it’s my natural body chemistry or what but it has a weird smell. It lingers all day, sometimes I even notice it in the shower. I smell even better without deodorant than with this stuff. This deodorant has also left weird dark red spots under my arms and has made them more sensitive to shaving my underarms. Other than that, there’s nothing wrong with the deodorant. It goes on smooth, keeps me dry, and doesn’t transfer to clothes. Guess I just can’t get over the strange smell. Definitely won’t repurchase.

I thought I had reviewed this product long ago, but apparently I hadn’t! I have had problems with seborrheic dermatitis (basically an extreme version of dandruff with oily scalp and itchy, crusty dandruff–gross, I know!) since I was about 10 years old. It seems to be seasonal and is ramping up again now that it will soon be Fall. I have kept this product on hand for probably 15 years (formerly called Intensive), and it definitely does the trick to stop the severe itching and flaking. The only negative is that it doesn’t smell great–my hair smells clean, but this shampoo definitely leaves an underlying sulfur odor which I can smell all day on my hands and nails, as well. I asked my teenage daughter to smell my hair and she claims she doesn’t smell anything weird, but *I* can smell it on myself. If you have been suffering with persistent, crusty, oily, itchy dandruff give this a try!

In 1997, I had been suffering from a seriously flaky scalp for years. I don’t know what it was – dry scalp, dandruff, fungal infection? It wasn’t itchy, just persistently flaky. I had tried everything over-the-counter like Neutrogena T-Gel, Selsun Blue, and regular Head & Shoulders.
I bought this, expecting it work no better. After a few uses, I realized my flakes were GONE. Since then, I have never been without this shampoo (I think it was called Intensive at the time, but this is the same thing). I don’t use it every time I wash my hair; I just treat my scalp with it once every couple of weeks or so.
It’s not a very luxurious shampoo experience. It doesn’t smell great, and it appears to strip and dry my hair. But that’s what conditioner is for. And anyway, it’s worth the downside. It’s the only thing that works Every Single Time!
I buy mine at CVS for maybe 6 or 7 dollars (I think?). I don’t have to buy a new bottle very often, so I’m not sure. And it’s a big bottle, unlike most specialized treatment shampoos, so it’s very cost-effective. Give it a try if you have persistent flakes.

This shampoo ” cure ” my heavily dandruff head. I tried a lot different kind of shampoo and tried to figure out why my hair has so much dandruff, and this shampoo has help decrease the dandruff drastically and now I have no dandruff anymore. I only use if for a few weeks and dandruff is all gone now I am using regular shampoo. But if my dandruff comes back, now I know I would use this shampoo. Thanks to my boyfriend who introduced me this shampoo.
